If this plays out as expected, I will be severely disappointed if the fans at the Wac don’t give Washington the Manny treatment. (You took ster-oids)

I’d much rather this not be true, but, I will do my best to get this started in section 124 if things do indeed play out the way they are looking like they will right now.

Ah, the hazy, lazy days of “Too MANNY ’Roids…”

Can we make signs that say “Ovie is a Kenzo” too?

What exactly is “as expected”? Are you assuming the Caps are guilty? Not a very lawyerly thing of you to do.

“As expected” means that the Flyers and Caps play in the next round, since both teams are up 3-1.

That makes more sense, the steroid chant still doesn’t.

Going to the game tonight. Got a Carbomb sign, BOOSH letters for everyone to hold and I’ll be wearing my Hartnell wig. CSN better put us on TV!

I think Boruk put it best yesterday. He said on Twitter that, with Kovalchuk’s playoff record, he’s not in the position to be guaranteeing anything.

Reading some of the comments on ILWT, some of the fans aren’t putting too much stock in this situation. The consensus seems to be that they’d feel more comfortable if Pronger and Timonen were out instead of Carter and Gagne.

Anyone else find it odd that after all 8 series went 1-1 at one point now we have all 4 series in the East at 3-1 and all of the series in the West at 2-2, except for Chicago/Nashville whom I still can not figure out why they are a game behind everyone. Though I am thinking Chicago wins tonight to keep it all kosher.

by EREX21 on Apr 22, 2010 11:21 AM EDT reply actions

The Chicago/Nashville series started on Friday, rather Wednesday or Thursday like everyone else. Presumably so that game 5 could be on NBC on Saturday, rather than a less-likely game 6 (though it’s not less-likely now, Nashville is giving Chicago a good fight).

by qbist on Apr 22, 2010 11:28 AM EDT up reply actions

I realize they started a day later than they should have, I just have no idea why. Your scenario seems logical. But then I would think they will lose an off day come round 2. Especially now since it will take them a minimum of 6 games to advance.

Can't think of something catchy to say here...I suck.

by EREX21 on Apr 22, 2010 11:30 AM EDT up reply actions

There’s some weirdness with the weekend schedule, both the Caps/Habs and Sabres/Bruins series don’t play on either Saturday or Sunday. So they’re scheduled to have game 7 (if necessary) on Wednesday along with Chicago/Nashville’s game 7.

by qbist on Apr 22, 2010 11:35 AM EDT up reply actions

They’re a game behind because the Harlem Globetrotters were in town and using their arena, I believe. They better win tonight or all my friends in Chicago will probably kill themselves.

Let's get my usual array of not-game-related topics out of the way:

1) Jamgate in the Devils locker room: How much would you have paid to see this? What the hell is going on with that organization? Between Lou flipping out, Kovy’s baseless trash talk, Fat Marty’s playoff beard being shaved, calls for Lemaire to be fired, Parise oddly silent, Scott Stevens travelling with the team… I have no idea what’s happening in Newark, and neither do they. Tonight’s the night.

2) Ovie spraying the Montreal kid: Isn’t it adorable that he keeps waving the flag? If ovie slips, does he get charged with assault? Does he get extradited?

Just read on twitter that Laliberte is playing on the first line with Richards and Carcillo.

with Briere and Hartnell, other lines are the same.

Thinking about it now, I’m actually kind of happy about this. Lavi isn’t messing with what has worked, just replacing the injured players on their lines. I don’t care if Gagne has more talent in his pinky finger than Laliberte has in his whole body, keep the guys together that are playing well together. The new additions will feed off the chemistry between the other guys.

That’s just my opinion.

Yeah, as I said on Travis’ post, I actually like it. Laliberte has skill, he’s just nowhere near Gagne. That line doesn’t have to change how they do things at all. Carcillo’s still the guy who bangs in the corners, Richie is still the playmaker, and Laliberte will just have to rotate his job as needed: Be the forechecker, get the puck outta the corner, or take Richards’ pass.

Since this is what Lavy is doin, I’m glad they went Laliberte over Kalinski or Nodl.

I don’t know exactly how I feel about those lines. I wouldn’t mind them if Phantom and Leino switch spots, which if these stand, will probably happen during the game.

I really don’t like this move or the lines, but at least those lines explain the Laliberte choice. I’d be happy to be proved wrong though.

When I asked him today, Kovalchuk said he isn’t thinking about the fact that this could be his last game in a Devils sweater.

Re: prospect ranking

I dispute a lot on this list, but it’s nice to see the Caps so well represented. I assume Varlamov is off because he’s played too many NHL games. Eakin probably deserves a look but it’s a competitive list for sure so I can’t complain too much. Carlson should be higher, Filatov and Hodgson should be lower. I just don’t see how Carlson falls that far below Pietrangelo. They have similar size and styles (though JC is more physical) and notwithstanding the WJC top-D award Carlson was just as good if not better in the WJC. Also, Carlson is the same age, a later bloomer, and further ahead on the curve than Pietrangelo is. Seems like the top of that list is very Canadian heavy after Filatov (and even after the top there are some over-valued CHL boys). Hodgson isn’t getting knocked enough for his injury holdups and Schenn is a nice player but he doesn’t have that same offensive upside as the other top prospects on that list. I also think De Haan was dreadful in the WJC (Canada basically benched him except on the PP) and is no way deserving of being that high.

I was surprised how low Neuvy was. Also, I noticed a few Brandon Wheat Kings on the list. Makes me curious.

To me there looks to be a Canadian/CHL bias, but I’m a pessimistic kind of guy. Neuvirth definitely should be higher. How a goalie like Jake Allen (or really, almost any of them on this list) is ahead of him doesn’t make a ton of sense to me. He has an AHL Calder Cup MVP award. That’s gotta mean something right? At the very least it’s a higher achievement than any of the other goalies on that list can claim.

Brandon is hosting the Memorial Cup this year, right? Should be interesting to see how they do with all these elite prospects and the home crowd.
