Them’s fighting words. I’ve never had a moustache in my life, but I’ve met some beastly looking Bostonians in my day.

No wonder everyone is drunk up there all the time.

I spent 4 years in Worcester and saw my share of ugly folks.

Every city’s got them, but maybe they’re more visible in Nueva Inglaterra because the cities are smaller.

Part of me wants to be offended, but then I thought about it for a second and realized I would never lower my standards enough to date a Bruins fan anyway… Whoever came up with the idea to use that for marketing the organization is probably too stupid to get any girl to date him.

I’m with Mario in his case that coming from the actual organization, it’s definitely classless. I could see it from a fan or a fansite, but from the organization itself, it’s definitely odd. And people wonder why the NHL isn’t doing a good job of reaching out to female fans….

Your readers suspect that the culprits might be the very franchise who, uh, we will face in round two, and you’re in a unique position to confirm or, uh, disconfirm that suspicion.

Random web finding or franchise propaganda war? Which is it?

Most certainly is from the organization. They have a whole series of these “Boston Bruins Rules” deals. Actually, their commercials are pretty hilarious. This on might be the best: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cr89xbl26g

Fun Time

Ehhh….coming from the organization its a little surprising and classless… but im not gonna lie, I kinda like it. It just means we need to come up with something better!

I wasn’t around for when Flyers-Bruins was a rivalry but I’d love to see it re-ignited.

Philadelphia and Boston are two very passionate sports cities. This is going to be a fun series. The remaining teams in the East are all teams with great histories, and all teams that the Flyers have a reason to hate. While the lack of Ovechkin may be bad for Bettman/casual fans, at the same time the Eastern Conference is now a true Hockey fans dream. Teams with great histories and passionate fans that have advanced primarily because they wanted it more than their first round opponents.

Its going to be a fun and very physical series. But seriously, Fuck the Bruins.

And Pittsburgh.

by MarioD on Apr 29, 2010 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m willing to give Pittsburgh some of the history part, at least… But only 2 of the 4 east teams have stellar attendance every year for the last 10 years, so you have to take a knock or two against Boston if you’re gonna take a knock against Pittsburgh.

by DragonGirl0583 on Apr 29, 2010 3:02 PM EDT up reply actions

We discussed this a few days ago.

Boston fans are totally right to have left that team because the ownership was so awful.

by EREX21 on Apr 29, 2010 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I mentioned them as well. Here is the discussion. Some interesting facts there.

by MarioD on Apr 29, 2010 3:25 PM EDT up reply actions

My problem is fanbases to respond to crappy ownership with apathy rather than, say, a Who Dey Revolution.

by Snevik on Apr 29, 2010 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions

The Blackhawks didn’t get their old fans back (or, at least, that’s not why their numbers are exploding to the extent they are). They got new, young transplants, like Washington. Ones who don’t know tons about hockey.

by Snevik on Apr 29, 2010 3:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Lots of Blackhawk fans dropped out for the same reason Bruins fans did. So I was told by some native Chicagoans when I was there a few years back. “Dollar” Bill Wirtz was still in the picture and he spent no money on the team once Roenick left.

Pepsi brings your ancestors back from the dead.

by mikefive on Apr 29, 2010 6:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I know a number of people from college who grew disillusioned with the Bruins because they’d follow a similar pattern:

1. Draft talented young players.
2. Milk those players for all their inexpensive contracts were worth.
3. Let those players walk / trade them when they deserved raises.
4. Goto 1.

When I went to college, the strong B’s teams of the late 1980s and early 90s were coming to an end. They were the worst team in the league my junior year (1996-97).

My college roommate grew up in Salem, NH; was a huge supporter of all things Boston sports, and was (and is) loyal to all of them, to a fault. But after living with me for a year, his hockey allegiances switched to the Flyers. He has been a diehard Flyers fan ever since, although he still halfheartedly roots for the B’s. He basically told me that rooting for the B’s was akin to rooting for the Capitals, except the B’s will usually win a playoff round or two. At the end of the day, though, they still break your heart just as badly. (See last year’s edition.)

Pepsi brings your ancestors back from the dead.

by mikefive on Apr 29, 2010 6:06 PM EDT up reply actions

heh, I knew this was coming.

Pittsburgh may not have the same history as the other three but they did have Mario Lemieux and a couple of cups in the 90’s. Lets give credit where credit is due. As for the fans, their are valid criticisms that can be made of that fan base but I’d still consider them to be fairly knowledgable and passionate. Dont get me wrong, Pittsburgh sucks, but their fans arent the worst in the NHL

by njh3293 on Apr 29, 2010 3:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Do you realize that the Pittsburgh Penguins came into the league the same year as the Flyers?

by MarioD on Apr 29, 2010 3:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Of the original expansion class, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and St. Louis have to be the best franchises that still exist. I give them credit.

Overall, it’s tough to argue against the fact that it’s a pretty cool set of franchises. The Pens get to be the villain.

Thank you for the Leach.

by Snevik on Apr 29, 2010 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions

In my mind they still exist as the San Jose Sharks:

1. The Seals became the Golden Seals;
2. The Golden Seals moved to Cleveland and became the Barons;
3. The Barons went belly-up, so their owners merged with the Minnesota North Stars and brought all the best Barons players with them;
4. Those same two (former Barons) owners were awarded the Bay Area franchise which became the Sharks;
5. A good chunk of the original Sharks were originally property of the North Stars.

Therefore, according to my twisted logic, all of the Expansion Six teams are alive and well!
