And scoring/assisting…. I don’t know. Harts did take a pretty terrible penalty though.

The video’s down now but if it’s the same shove in the highlight reel I saw yesterday then yeah, it looked like something was up. My first thought after I watched it yesterday was wtf did I see that right? I’m sure it’s nothing though.

by Kanayd on Apr 7, 2010 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Boucher great game keep it going that is how you step up. Lappy and Betts were awesome last night too.

It takes a lot to convince me but watching that video of Giroux and Hartnell several times it does appear like Giroux did shoved Hartnell “angrily” but the camera changed before we could see Hartnell’s reaction if they were playing around. But I highly doubt it and that looked like Hartnell was surprise by Giroux leaving him hanging with the high-five. After the roughing penalty someone should have shoved Hartnell all the way to the locker-room. He is also killing that second line. Gagne-Briere-Leino generated a lot more offensive chances.

Could Carter come back for this weekend series he is getting a MRI today to hopefully get clearance. Since his absence we have been shutout twice and our team GF/G is done to 2.71 we were in the 2.90 range for most of the year. Factor in sweating it out last night against Toronto I really want to see Carter get back in there for the Rangers series if the Rangers win tonight against the Maple Leafs.

The team is taking care of their own business. Hartnell’s stupid penalty almost cost them the game. I can understand why he was pissed at him. No doubt the coach let him have it as well.

I have to agree. It didn’t seem to playful and hopefully it wasn’t. The team has to be getting sick of the disease that is Hartnell right now. I can only hope that Lavi pulls his head out of his ass and demotes him to 3rd line duty, and only plays him about 5 – 7 min. a game.

I am not a Hartnell fan in anyway but disease is a bit harsh.

I can only hope that was we see as Girioux angrily pushing Hartnell is indeed that but at the same time, is that not better to be done by the coach, or someone with a letter on their jersey? Isn’t that, their job?

by EREX21 on Apr 7, 2010 11:03 AM EDT up reply actions

I’m not sure I agree that it’s a good sign. Hartnell, while in a funk, is a good player. At this time of the year, I’d rather the team focuses on coming together as a team, instead of fighting amongst themselves like a bunch of 2-yo’s.

Is it fighting amongst themselves or is it a player “putting his foot down” and showing that stupid penalties hurt the team and their goals.

is that not better to be done by the coach, or someone with a letter on their jersey? Isn’t that, their job?

Yeah, but we don’t know if Lavy, Richie, Pronger, Kimmo, or Gagne did that as well. It would be better, but it’s also good to know that guys without a position of authority are able to speak up and have their voices heard. Accountability from all angles.

Yeah. I think this is one of those things (like so many others) where you either like it or you don’t. You can say it wasn’t Claude’s role, it wasn’t the time, Hartnell didn’t deserve it, etc. while you can also say Hartnell deserved it, it’s everyone’s role, and it’s about time.

So, count me among the latter.

Agreed, I’m with you. They are fighting for their playoff lives right now and trying to (probably) protect some people’s jobs on the team. They’ve already gotten one coach they liked fired; now they are in danger of not only not making the playoffs, but drastically altering the roster if things shame spiral. Not good all around. Giroux was just getting his French up.

Gagne – Briere – Leino
Hartnell – Powe – Asham
Carcillo – Laperriere – Betts

Pronger – Carle
Timonen – Krajicek
Parent – Coburn

And the 3rd paring Parent Krajicek got abused as usual in their own end despite Coburn playing a much better game with Kimmo. Krajieck and Parent need time to gel in theory they pairing should work Parent being the stay at home guy and Krajieck the puck moving rushing guy problem is neither of them are that solid enough when the match-ups against the opponents top lines on the road. Parent needs to just play more aggressive / physical in his own end. 3rd pairing has been a liability as usual all year.

The Ballard thing was just bizarre. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It’s a shame the Panthers give Vokoun zero support. Most of the goals last night were 3rd or 4th chances.

Definitely interesting Giroux/Hartnell exchange.

This is even more reason for why I would love play the Devils in the Playoffs. Brodeur tires toward the end of seasons and if they are having locker room “issues” it could be a perfect storm in the Flyers favor. I don’t want to put too much weight on this but it is nice to see . . .

I was posting because of track 9 on their album. Here’s a live performance from the World Cafe, listen to the chorus:

Will have to wait until I get home to hear that one. YouTube is blocked at work.

I’m assuming your musical tastes tend toward the jammy/soulful side of things, given the band names you’ve mentioned here. If so, have you heard Rubblebucket? You might like them. Their album is a lot of fun, but there’s a lot to get into musically speaking, too.

Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?

by mikefive on Apr 7, 2010 2:11 PM EDT up reply actions

I’d say I run the scale all the way from singer-songwriter through rock to funk to blues to jazz to some electronic/ambient stuff and a very small amount of hip-hop.

Downloading rubblebucket right now… and we are about a mile and a half off-topic. The song I linked, I couldn’t listen to for the last year or whatever without thinking of hockey. Last night, for the first time, I couldn’t watch hockey without hearing the song. The Flyers should track down Joe and get a copy of it for the playoff run.

by MarioD on Apr 7, 2010 2:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I heard the studio version while I was searching for the lyrics (I really couldn’t understand them on Youtube), and if they decided they wanted to do what you suggest for the playoffs, they’d definitely have to get a version that was mixed so the vocals were more prominent. It’s not my style, but I can definitely understand why the song would immediately associate with hockey in your mind as a fan of both the team and the band. But I don’t know that it would translate well for actual use by the Flyers in its current form.

On there live CD Gut the Van Disc 2 Track 10 while playing at the Troc blasted out a Ba Ba Bababa thing with the crowd chanting Let’s Go Flyers then rolled into a Rocky Theme to start of their song Mission. Song is clearly about the WaterBoy. I think editing clips of the move removing the Bobby part in the coaches rants or a montage of Adam Sandler’s huge hits with announcer calling out Boucher oh my etc.. would work better. It is certainly funnier and remember even Rocky had a montage. And maybe next year if he is still on the team he would change his mask to a Waterboy Theme.

Mario

Ready to admit that JVR is outperforming Hartnell? And I’ll be the first to admit JVR isn’t playing that well, but he’s on line 1, and Harts is on line 2.5 and moving downnnnnn.

by orangeandblack20 on Apr 7, 2010 3:15 PM EDT reply actions

You are joking, right?

by MarioD on Apr 7, 2010 3:17 PM EDT up reply actions

And his line is playing way better than any line Hartnell is on and if Giroux would have went backhand and scored off that behind the back pass play we would be talking about that goal over the Boucher save.

Because that save wouldn’t have been that important with a 2-0 lead, not to take anything away from Boosh or that save which was sweet.

by chrislanci on Apr 7, 2010 4:55 PM EDT up reply actions

And his line is playing way better than any line Hartnell is on

The Flyers have played 8 games since Carter was injured.

In those 8 games, the JVR-Richards-Giroux line has produced exactly 1 goal (which Giroux scored unassisted against Detroit).

In those 8 games, Hartnell himself has 3 assists.

by MarioD on Apr 7, 2010 5:07 PM EDT up reply actions

That line was together for 3 of those 8 games, we won 2 and lost the other 1-0 to MTL. The other 5 games we 1-3-1. And if you watched the games the JVR-Richards-Giroux line is playing better than all the others minus the Gagne-Briere line which hasn’t done shit since they replaced Leino with Hartnell. Also in the Islanders game JVR’s goal was assited by Giroux and Richards when the line formed at the start of the 2nd period. In that game JVR had two points playing with Giroux.

by chrislanci on Apr 7, 2010 5:33 PM EDT up reply actions

What games are you even watching? Did you see JVR cough up a goal against Detroit and then get benched because he was playing so poorly?

Regardless, Hartnell still has more points than JVR’s line has points.

by MarioD on Apr 7, 2010 5:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Groux, goal against Det. JVR, goal against Isles. Powe-Giroux-JVR had a goal against the Isles, as well.

And Lanci, they’ve been together for the past four, not the past three.

by Snevik on Apr 7, 2010 5:39 PM EDT up reply actions

The JVR goal was on the powerplay, off a rebound from Briere. It was not on that line.

by MarioD on Apr 7, 2010 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I honestly didn’t see it, but the full play-by-play provided by the league says that Richards, Giroux, and JVR were out there for the PP goal.

Anyway, I was just defending the kid because the line has looked dangerous the past couple games, to me. The Datsyuk was off of his turnover, but it wasn’t like the Flyers got caught with numbers forward. The Wings worked it through the neutral zone and went in 2-on-2 to rip on past Boosh.

by Snevik on Apr 7, 2010 5:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I was going from memory, you’re right, it was Giroux’s shot. Regardlesss, though, still a PP, not ES goal.

I think Richards and Giroux have played well and would’ve scored three or four times with anyone other than JVR on that left wing, and given up a couple less goals (the Montreal goal just stood in the slot doing nothing and the aforementioned Detroit goal)

by MarioD on Apr 7, 2010 6:02 PM EDT up reply actions

I have to agree with Mario here on JVR… I have been a JVR-supporter all season, but he is taking way too long to shoot – something that is most likely brought on by his recent slump. And as well as he might be skating and putting in the effort, this is the NHL, and the Flyers top-line players need to be able to finish their quality chances – especially when the player doesn’t hit or play defense.

JVR is not alone in this – Offensively the whole team is slumping – and it has been pretty obvious in their shot selections. Richards looks really lost on the half boards during the power play – and I don’t even want to talk about what happened to Hartnell’s offensive game. Bottom line – without a healthy Jeff Carter, it is not going to matter who is in goal.

by SanDiegoScraps on Apr 7, 2010 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Did you see JVR cough up a goal against Detroit and then get benched because he was playing so poorly?

He got benched because it was a tight game and at the end they didn’t want to put a rookie out on the ice at the end of the game. It wasn’t like Hartnell was out there either they just rotated Betts line and Richards Giroux Gagne to hold it off at the end. JVR’s ice time was 13:45 to Hartnell’s 14:06.

Regardless, Hartnell still has more points than JVR’s line has points.

All of Hartnell’s points came with Asham Powe and Lappy Carcillo on the 3rd and 4th line. He has done nothing but turn the puck over and take penalties when playing with Danny and Gagne. In those same games Gagne-Danny-Leino have combined for 4G and 4A. They have done absolutely nothing with Hartnell as winger in the last two games against Detroit and Toronto. Hartnell belongs with Asham and Powe on the 3rd line the whole team is better with him there.

by chrislanci on Apr 7, 2010 6:44 PM EDT up reply actions

All of Hartnell’s points came with Asham Powe and Lappy Carcillo

So to be clear, your argument is that all Hartnell has done is score goals with borderline NHL players on the ice with him?

And this, you think, is a criticism?

can we agree that both players suck.

"Sugah n' rainbows"

by JpH89 on Apr 7, 2010 9:49 PM EDT up reply actions

No what I am saying is Hartnell is bringing down the skilled players when he plays with them. He is playing better when doesn’t try to make plays and when he plays against the lesser competition.

JVR a 20 year old rookie has 9 fewer points in two fewer games then Hartnell 27 years old 9th year in the league. JVR is a +4 better and Hartnell should be in his prime years and is 16 goals short of the mark he made last season. He also continues to take stupid penalties and fires his passes in a McNabb like fashion rocket hard and at the receivers feet.

But you are trying so hard to be right about JVR when he has played way better than all the crap you predicted in August you can’t see through you blind hatred and petty need to always be right. I guess you win this won because no matter what I do or what I say you’ll continue to ignore the facts and delude yourself into believing that Hartnell and his huge 3 assists since Carter’s injury is playing so much better than JVR (1g 1a) over that 8 game span. Whatever.

Now all the Flyers need is 2 points and you can kiss goodbye you prediction that this team wouldn’t make the playoffs this year. We all know that you rather have the Flyers miss that playoffs so you can run around and say I told I told you so like some 4th Grader in the school yard.

Don’t worry we already know what you are going to say. “So what the Flyers made the playoffs what does it matter they are going to lose to whoever in the 1st round anyway, etc etc.” I rather love than lost than to never loved at all but I guess you like to take the easy way out and just piss all over everything. Now I know what the D stands for, MarioD for Downer ruining everyone’s fun on post at a time. If your not having any fun why should anyone else.

by chrislanci on Apr 8, 2010 12:19 AM EDT up reply actions

JVR when he has played way better than all the crap you predicted in August

He’s done exactly, EXACTLY, what I predicted in August.

by MarioD on Apr 8, 2010 12:08 PM EDT up reply actions

He is not a 30 as you predicted he has played better in the +/ department than Giroux, Gagne and Richards ranked 6th on the team at forward in +/- and is ranked 7th on the team in scoring at the forward position and 6th on the team in goal scoring overall. What exactly did you say he was going to do, again?? Or do you have some more BS you want to through up here.
