If Matsumoto was a winger, I’d be all for bringing him up as a third-line guy. He’s got offensive potential, but as a center, he’d be worse than Briere.

well, Danny and Giroux are terrible at defense, and they are our 2nd and 3rd line centers. So its cant be much worse. But yeah, I think he can play all forward positions.

Briere also had to cover for Coburn who was trying to get extra shots in. I blame Coburn more then Danny because Coburn shouldnt be leaving the net open, especially when the only guy close to the net is Danny.

when you play defense, you cover the net, not cover man to man. He was by the blue line when the pass was made to Krecj

not zone, but at least dont go towards the netrual zone, especiall when tho only guy by the net is Breire.

But he then leaves the puck carrier alone, without anybody defending him. No matter what Coburn does, he has to trust Briere to pick up the other man. If Coburn leaves the puck carrier, Briere has to take him. If Coburn follows the puck carrier, Briere has to cover the front of the net. Briere did nothing, so how do you blame the guy who did SOMETHING?
And trust me, I’ve been on Coburn all year. He’s vastly overrated. But he did his job on that play.

I don’t know who I despise more at this point, Briere or Hartnell. It’s really sad because I like so many guys on this team.
Thankfully, Laviolette has learned that Hartnell is worthless and since he had that lazy play resulting in a 2-on-1, he hasn’t been put in a situation where he can cost us anything else. Briere, on the other hand, has been lazy on two separate plays costing us two goals.

They have been awful in the offensive zone, neither cant help whoevers line they are on. They keep following the puck and end up leading to odd man rushes the other way.

I just didn’t see it. I can’t disagree with you, but I just think Briere has been atrocious in his defensive zone, while Leino and JVR have been decidedly average. So… draw?
