ECSF Game 5, Discussion Thread: Philadelphia Flyers at Boston Bruins
Philadelphia Flyers at Boston Bruins, May 10, 2010 7:00 PM EDT
Tonight's goaltenders:
After the jump, questions to answer, lineups, and our in-game discussion.
Flyers Line Combinations
Gagne – Richards – Carcillo
Hartnell – Giroux – Briere
van Riemsdyk – Powe – Leino
Nodl – Betts – Asham
Pronger - Carle
Timonen - Coburn
Parent - Krajicek
Boston Line Combinations
Paille - Bergeron - Recchi
Lucic - Savard - Satan
Wheeler - Sobotka - Ryder
Begin - Whitfield - Marchand/Thornton
Chara - Boychuk
Hunwick - Wideman
Ference - Stuart
Questions to Answer
- Can the Flyers continue to pepper Tuukka Rask with pucks and pressure?
- Will the Flyers score on the power play tonight?
- Mark Recchi scores a lot. Can the Flyers stop him tonight?
- Will the Flyers get some favorable bounces tonight?
- This is the third elimination game the Flyers have been in this season. Two wins so far. Do they stay undefeated with their backs against the wall tonight?
CSN broadcast, thank God. Unless you're not in Philly, of course, because you might not get the game. WIP if you'd like to listen, and join us here for the conversation. LET'S GO FLYERS!

Your grade is a 20%. You got all of them wrong except #4. Flyers never get bounces.
An F is just about what I would expect from the Bawhstan school system. I’m afraid you’re going to have to repeat the 2nd round…next year.

If you really think you are gonna win this series I am sorry about your denial.
If the Flyers win this series I will make a fanpost and face the music. I bet this with someone in Buffalo before the series and i won. How does this sound?

How exactly does that make you “face the music?” It’s not like your betting that you have to come to Philly wear a Bruins jersey and get tarred and feathered.

Boston Mayor SNAFU
You remember Adam Varitek, the most famous placekicker in Boston history, don’t you?
“Boston has an amazing set of remarkable athletes whose actions in the moment have become (sic) ionic in sports. Havlicek stole the ball. Fisk waved the ball fair. Flutie launched the Hail Mary pass. Varitek split the uprights. Today we honor one of the most brilliant moments: Bobby Orr flying through the air. Who could forget that play against St. Louis as the Bruins beat the Blues to bring a Stanley Cup to Boston.”

To be honest, I’m on the fence about it. I don’t like Leighton (we all know that) and I worry about what Boucher will be thinking with him on the bench, but I also wonder what the team will do knowing a guy they rallied around is back on the bench. It could have a positive effect on the team and/or have a negative effect on Boucher.
But I’d rather not be Boucher’s backup. I’d prefer to be his towel boy.

Savard: “Is that Kalinski?”
Chara: “Kalinski, you mean Jon Kalinski? I think it is…”

Really? wow, thats stupid, send him to the minors, doubt anybody will pluck him off waivers and if they do good riddens.
He’s actually signed through 2012… and they tried to get rid of him at the trade deadline to make room for Hamhuis. No one picked him up off waivers.
Really? Capgeek has it listed as ending in 2011
by DragonGirl0583 on May 10, 2010 7:40 PM EDT up reply actions
He’s only signed through ’11 (or next season).

It was a multi-year contract. I agree they should send him to the minors, but Homer told him this year he wouldn’t be sent down unless they needed the contract space. Hopefully next year is different.

But he never made it down to the AHL, so he never went through re-entry waivers. And you can’t pick somebody up until you get to the re-entry process, right?

No, you can get picked up off waivers or re-entry waivers.

They cancelled them, he never made it down to the AHL…

Bottom line to me is there isn’t any room on this roster for a player who spends 3 minutes on the ice and 5 or 10 in the box. Pointless. We got tough guys who can fight, Carcillo, Hartnell, Lappy, Asham, who all have some offensive talent. Lappy is a former 20 goal scorer, Hartnell a 30 and Carcillo has 20 goal a season potential.
Oh, I’m not defending Cote. I was only stating the fact that the Flyers cancelled the process as soon as they realized they didn’t need that roster spot for Hamhuis or any other deadline pick up. I would much rather he had made it down
by DragonGirl0583 on May 10, 2010 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions
I picked him out cause I think it’s safe to say Powe and Carcillo have earned contracts.

Agreed, Powe needs more refinement on offense still but he has the work ethic to last for a long time.
Yeah, plus he’s settling into a PK defensive specialist role.

yeah and don’t forget Lappy is under for next season to so Nodl is going back down probably, unless he earns a spot. Just seems contract wise that Asham is the odd man out simply because his is up.
Yeah. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Nodl makes the team. But if he does, it would likely be in the “healthy scratch” role.

Sure…but MarioD will find a way to prove that he was incredibly out of position when he scored and failed his defensive assignment…
