That line with Wheeler becomes a lot scarier. I’m hoping this is a move that has come too late, and the line won’t be immediately effective.
Shifting lines = desperation

so basically, wheeler is being moved up to a line with marginally more talent and is going to have the same role. this doesn’t really concern me, because wheeler doesn’t have nearly the gifts that lucic has. wheeler just has his size (height), which will be negated by pronger or coburn.
conversely, he doesn’t have the bulk-he is listed at 205-210 lbs. smaller defensemen with a lower center of gravity can force him off the puck.
this smells like a desperate move to me.

I agree with the desperation…let me clarify, I fear that this may create more time and space for Recchi and/or Bergeron. Recchi, even at 42 is still scoring threat (see game 4), and Bergeron has been quietly effective throughout the playoffs, and if he has more time/space, he can be very dangerous.
I’m surprised they didn’t make this move for game 6 honestly.
this day. is going. slow.

I know...
I’ve only been up 2 hours and it has felt like it has been all day waiting for this game. I guess that is what a game 7 in hockey will do to you.
Funny but when I was looking at SCOC’s game 6 thread they all were pretty much ripping Wheeler. Only one who seemed to like him was the guy who has been frequenting BSH…Cornelious I believe?
Didn’t realize Gagne’s injury was that serious…I would say it might be worth not playing him in hopes of having him for the ECF but I guess you have to play for today.

Cornelius see’s potential still.
Many of us did defend him for a long time (including me), but just like Wideman, mistakes he makes are just so obvious it is painful at times.
Peter C’s infatuation with him might annoy a few fans too.
But if he comes through tonight (which involves parking himself in front of the net and causing traffic like Lucic did at 19:00 of the third last game), he’ll probably get a reprieve of a day or two.
Let the Birds fly where they may tonight.
Wheeler set the bar too high for himself last year. I don’t watch a ton of Bruins hockey, but I was wondering why they haven’t moved him up before. There is no point trying to have 3 so-so scoring lines if you are the Bruins. They already don’t score a ton of goals. Might as well make two much stronger scoring lines by moving Paille down.
yup, I have a feeling that it isn’t going to take many goals to win tonight. It’s going to be a pressure cooker and 2 tallies could be the ticket again.

We’ve lost every game in this series that Gagne didn’t play in. We are an insane person if you’re thinking about the ECF already.
I don’t disagree with that, like I said you have to play for today but that doesn’t mean you can’t consider tomorrow. (Sunday)

i’d rather make it to sunday without gagne than potentially lose tonight without him.
of course, that statement is rife with assumptions, but there it is.

Does this statement have any meaning? You are saying, if Gagne doesn’t play, you’d rather we win than lose?
I am saying, is it worth risking Gagne for the rest of the playoffs, just for him to play tonight?
I understand that if they don’t win tonight then there is no rest of the playoffs.
But if you know going into tonights game that Gagne’s injury is serious enough that his minutes are going to be limited then clearly he is a liability since we have all seen how much Lavi plays his replacements.

And I’m saying, there is no “rest of the playoffs.” Are you mental? You’ve seen Caps and Pens fans come here weeks in advance only to lose out. You’re asking for a karmic bitch-slapping if that’s you’re thinking.
Gagne was thought to be a liability in game 4. And, as long of Gagne’s injury doesn’t threaten the longevity of his career, you have him (and by “have him,” I mean Gagne is going to do this voluntarily) kill himself tonight, at the expense of losing him for—say—a week.
Yes I am mental, certifiable even. I am also done with this conversation. I have no time for people who throw out insults as part of their discussions.

I didn’t mean as an insult. You’re just a braver fan than I.
Come on, you’ve seen me around here enough to know I’m not a fan of message board drama.
Believe me, if you have read my posts before, I am about as afraid of karma as anyone you might know. Blame it on my superstition as an athlete or just an odd nuance.
I will never, and often go out of my way to ask others not to, predict the outcome of a game, a series or a season. In this case, I was simply posing the question, for discussion’s sake, is it worth Gagne tonight?
The numbers would say, 3-0 with Gagne vs the Bruins and 0-3 w/o Gagne vs the Bruins. So it seems like an easy choice, and maybe it is. I just worry about the long term, that is my one true crutch…I can’t help but think, long term with everything.

yeah excuse the bad grammer.
basically, my pov is that we need gagne in the game tonight, even if he is hobbled. keeping him out does nothing but hurt the team.
and its a game 7. there is no tomorrow for either team. man up.

I don’t think there’s any conflicting feelings in Gagne’s mind about whether he wants on that ice. Doesn’t have many more chances, you know?
Honestly I can’t say I know too much about Wheeler but what I have seen of him, he seems like a guy who is best fit to be what Mike Knuble was for us for a few years. As 13_Legion said, he needs to park himself in front of the net. Hopefully Assistant Captain Elbows has something fun in store for him.

Oh, Boston journalism:
B’s coach Claude Julien opted to drop the Phantom Elbow-Thrower – Daniel Paille – down to the third line…

This video seems to help me get pumped up when play games like this. It’s from the home opener of the 2008 season. Enjoy.
Eulogies
It seems like the one you wrote for the Devils is the only one that was actually in ‘Eulogy’ format, and it was the only one that was really funny. The rest have been pretty weak, except for that final dig against Roethlisberger in the Pitt one.
I liked the final line in the Canucks one. It wasn’t funny, it was just true.

Actually, the Phoenix Coyotes one was awesome, but mostly because they didn’t try to just rip on the coyotes, it was somewhat respectful and honestly funny.
The Devils was a close second.
Nothing I’ve read other than those two actually was that funny.

well, they all have their moments, but in the end, they all tried to hard to really burn the other team and they just didn’t achieve it without coming off as hateful and bitter.
The canucks one was almost good, but the ending was sorely lacking.

Checking In
It’s been the week from hell for me here at the sales meeting, but just checking in and reminding everyone that since I stopped posting on game threads, the Flyers haven’t lost. Coincidence? Maybe. But I’m sticking to it.
Wednesday night we had a special event at the House of Blues in Disney World and we were all (the PA folks) checking out iPhones and Crackberries all night long and cheering the score—and razzing on the Boston and Pitt folks. I made our shipping guy, who’s a diehard Islanders fan, cheer for the Flyers andd it nearly killed him. Good times.

Following up Thurs. news, Gagne is playing. Walking with a slight limp. Did not skate this morning.
I love the Lightning AND the Flyers... go ahead, preach me!
Gagne is the Poulin of this year’s team. They are much better when he’s in the lineup, regardless of whether he’s 100%.
Good to see that there’s someone else (beside me) to realize this.

I don’t know about you guys, but I was looking forward to a penguins eulogy written by a philly blogger. I’m getting sick of the Ovechkin/Crosby rivalry that the NHL is shoving down our throats.
