Around SBN: Seahawks Trade for TE Kellen Winslow

"Le retour au jeu fort du guerrier Ian Laperrière, dont RDS a obtenu la confirmation en primeur vendredi, dans le match numéro quatre de la finale de l'Association Est, samedi après-midi (15h), ne ferait que pimenter une confrontation qui a augmenté en intensité, dans la foulée de la victoire de 5-1 du Tricolore qui lui a permis de réduire l'écart à 2-1 dans la série."

Translation: Ian Laperriere is a warrior, and RDS reports that he'll be playing in Game 4.

No offense meant.

to any French Canadians on here…I don’t think there are?

(more towards Habs fans)

but anyone else get tired of Montreal and the Quebec region being so damn….arrogant. I need to learn to put pics up on here, but I want to put up a pic from South Park because they def. infected with the “smug” and enjoy the smell of their own farts. Gets old.

Usually goes from hockey convo to America sucks and we’re fat and we’re stupid and we’re not good at hockey and we can’t walk thru walls like they do and……nevermind…

I'm french-canadian (and I hate the Habs)

And I don’t mind if you feel that we are arrogant. But I don’t get why you would think there will be no french canadians here. Don’t you see it? the Flyers is Quebec’s team. Gagne who’s from my city, Briere , Lappy, Giroux (ok he’s from ontario but he played in the QHL), laliberté, Biron last year (oh god I miss him). No team draft more player in the QHL than the Flyers. Our top 2 prospect are Kevin Marshall and Marc-André Bourdon. Then there is Riopel and Labrecque. And when you look in the glorious past of the Flyers you see Desjardins and Parent.

And as a Nordiques nostalgic you also traded Forsberg and a load of good players for Lindros.

Totally agree, but I do think Montreal is always going to believe Eric Desjardins is theirs in some way, since he helped them win a cup and never got one here.

I think with French Canadians it’s like every other stereotype, some people fit it, some people don’t. We get painted with broad brush strokes too, meh, it’s life.

i should have said that as well….I do hate lumping everyone in the same boat. Hell I put up that Stay Classy post pretty much condemning people that do.

So let me rephrase…die-hard Canadiens fan are a bunch of asses…ha. Their are always going to be superb human beings from Montreal, Quebec. Unfortunately you only seem to get the rowdy ones with nothing but disgust from thoses who aren’t, well…them.

Flyers and Blue Jackets...nuff said.

What I hate about the Habs fans is their conviction that they have the only right to have French Canadians on their team and that all French Canadians simply have to dream of playing there. Get real, not all players from Quebec want to join your team. No, Gagne doesn’t want to play for you. Neither does Lecavalier, nor Giroux or Briere. People call Habs fans passionate but I just see them as pretty obnoxious, the crap I read on FB and all over the web makes me really sick to my stomach. The arrogance is radiating from them, it’s unbelievable. And not to mention how they treat their own players if they are not showing good results. Boo your own team, your own players. Classy.

I love the Lightning AND the Flyers... go ahead, preach me!

I’m in no way saying that the Canadiens’ desire to have exclusive rights to all French Canadian players is right; but there is a nugget a truth in their logic. Part of the problem is that at one point, they really had it. I think it was taken away in 1970 or so, but I personally believe that is still the underlying reason for their belief that all French Canadian players “belong to them”. Again, I don’t agree with it, but I think the belief wouldn’t be nearly as strong if they had never had those exclusive rights to begin with.

It’s as if guys from Pennsylvania were obliged to play either for the Flyers or the Penguins. You’re from Ontario? Okay, Senators and Maple Leafs have the preferential right to offer you a contract. For me, it’s the same logic and it’s plain ridiculous.

Completely agree; but whenever you have something for years and then it’s taken away from you, some people are going to believe that you should still have it. It doesn’t matter that you never should have had it in the first place, because you had it once and now you want it back. It’s kind of a universal thing, even if it’s 100% wrong. It’s not a defense, it’s just an explanation.

by DragonGirl0583 on May 22, 2010 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Can’t argue against that. ‘Cause your explanation is right. But I’d hope that at least the young people from Quebec would finally get over it. Get over the fact that they are NOT getting Quebecian players only because they are Quebecian. I guess I’m too naive.

I agree and worse than that they think everybody in the province should cheers for the habs, I’m a Nordiques fan and I will never cheer for the enemy and especially now that we’re so close to have them back. And remember Montreal is not a hockey city, it’s a habs city. They don’t watch other leagues or teams. The QHL never worked in Montreal.
