Flyers_orange_medium

We've thrown the term must-win around quite often this season, but tonight at home in Game 3, it really is true. This is a must win game. If they lose on home ice tonight, the season is effectively over. Let's just get that in our heads for a second.

And with that said, the Flyers have the advantage tonight. These two teams have been rather even all series long, even though the Flyers have yet to hold a lead and have played generally poor all series long. That should all change now that we're playing in Philadelphia.

The Flyers can get the matchups they want, but most importantly, they'll have the extra jump in their step that the confidence of home ice brings them. They've been a very solid home ice team all season long, and that's only improved in the playoffs.

The story lines have all been beaten to death in the last 36 hours or so: the Flyers need to win faceoffs, need to get tangible contributions from the guys up front not named Mike Richards or Danny Briere, need to score on the power play, etc. Hopefully solving match up problems at home goes a long way towards giving other guys better looks, but the biggest part of it is not double shifting guys like Scott Hartnell and Claude Giroux.

These guys had nothing left in the tank at the end of the game on Monday, and hopefully Peter Laviolette decides to play guys like Andreas Nodl a bit more. We're not asking for 15-plus minutes for guys like him, but between seven and ten or twelve would be nice to see.

If you're going to the game, leave right now. Phils game tonight, the Sports Complex will be a mob scene. And please, don't run on the ice. You'll get tased. Game thread will be up at 6 PM. Go Flyers. Win.

He should be—that’s like comparing Sean Avery to Marion Gaborik. They aren’t the same type of player. Although Savard is certainly tougher than Gaborik, you get that agitators with some scoring touch are not the same as a highly paid/high scoring forward.

I think we should have some room to make concussion jokes. Everyone in the league, including us, side and sympathize with Savard over Cooke. Given the Flyers’ long history with head injuries, all concussion humor is as blatantly tongue-in-cheek as your homerism is blatantly ignorant.

by Snevik on May 5, 2010 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions

God knows we know about concussions given by suspect players—Lindros, anyone? If anyone has room to make concussion jokes, it’s us. Primeau, Westbrook (crossing sports), the whole Gang Green defensive line, we know concussions…

If you’re going to look down on jokes about concussion, do it across the board. Otherwise, it’s hypocritical.

As far as Flyers fans go, you’re posting on a site that has collected mostly objective ones. Outrageous clamis are fun, but if you actually mean them, you’re not really worth our time.

you are all lying to yourself if you weren’t as pissed as me with the flyers losing…I’m all for intermingling but after a loss in the PLAYOFFS, you need to go back to your page and celebrate with your “teammates”. Losing sucks and its not fun to be reminded by it from a fan of the other team. If I crossed the line, which seeing how it got deleted i’m think so, apologies to Travis(not trying to bring a bad rep to BSH) and whoever it was from S.C.o.C I said it to. Its the playoffs, emotions run high. atleast in me.

I don’t have an issue with it, but I’m just telling fans of other teams that you can’t know what to expect when you basically come on to the other fans blog and say “neener, neener, neener” after you win and they lose. No, I’m not calling you an idiot fan—I am just giving you a reason why sometimes people get up in arms about other teams fans on their blogs. Not saying you personally—but saying sometimes people come on other sites or go to other stadiums/ballparks just to start stuff, is all. People get super defensive and try to cut off that type of behaviour before it starts (like in your case the other night).

Ironical

Adj. 1. ironical – characterized by often poignant difference or incongruity between what is expected and what actually is; “madness, an ironic fate for such a clear thinker”; “it was ironical that the well-planned scheme failed so completely”

I loved Wings, the show. Buffalo wings are my sons favorite food. The Philadelphia Wings lacrosse team is a blast to watch in person. They used to have this guy—can’t remember his name—he was part Native American, I think—he had really long hair and he was a beast on the field.

Marc Savard eye chart which will be at the game tonight just shown on DNL—Marc, these are human fingers, these are chicken fingers—trying to help him distinguish the kind you eat vs. those you don’t.

Those crazy sign people. They think of everything. I think my favorite was years ago comparing Crosby to RIchards and had something along the lines of Richards is a winner, and an idol and Crosby is a weiner, takes midol. (amongst other bullet points)

I got on Arenavision with a sign that said “Scottish Warriors” with drawings of Hartnell and Upshall…oh and it happened to be the game that they combined for 4 goals in the third period after being down 5-1 after two and came back to beat Carolina….yeah, probably the second best game I’ve ever been to.
