Yea, I just fanshotted this 5 mins ago. I can’t imagine that getting Gagne back will really be the difference maker in this series but at least it means that the Flyers can sit either Nodl or Ross. Can’t hurt right?

Ross before Nodl.
Ross before Nodl, never yodel;
Nodl before Ross, Who’s the Boss?
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
Sure hope they install him into the pp in hartnells spot. Leino has looked good keep him on a unit. Still wish Richards would play the point in coburns place with timonen and keep carle and pronger together on the other unit.

OMGAGNE!
I know he will not be at 100%, but the Flyers need a spark.
Proudly supporting a Flyers team with "no honor."
This was before the had any idea he has a potentially serious brain injury. I think I can let that slide. Trying to draw comparisons here just doesn’t work.

Sort of like how this stupid pronouncement was made before Gagne goes to his scheduled evaluation on Friday?
Also, I could deduce that Lappy had neurological damage the day after the game. We had a whole discussion about it here.
Its all just posturing and fucking with the other team. I can’t believe the Flyers didn’t know Lappy was all fucked up, they just didn’t want to announce it yet. I believe they know Gagne can’t play, but they’re taking the opportunity to screw with the Bruins preparations.
and I’m fine with that, obviously the “you were out 6 months and we’re going to put you out another 6 months” stuff didn’t work, nor did Carcillo whining about his finger tasting like chicken.

Yeah, Im not bitching.
Just saying that no one should really even listen to what Dreger’s anonymous source “close to the series” (whatever that even means…) has to say since its pretty clear that even Holmgren on record was playing games with injury status.
Lappys incedent was totally different. When you get a concussion or any head injury, there is initial brain problems no matter what. What made them realize Lappy couldn’t play is that in the check up MRI and CT when everything was supposed to be getting better, it got worse.

Ah, Gagne and his prodigious post season scoring history.
You’d be better with Bobby Clark suiting up.
Where did you invent that criticism from??
Simon Gagne in the playoffs (including this season):
75 games played
23 goals
14 assists
Over the course of an entire career, and a sample size that large… I think thats pretty productive. Its not exactly hall of fame worthy, but its certainly a reasonable amount of production.
His OT goal against Tampa Bay got the flyers to game 7 but in typical flyer style they failed to win that game.

Puck Prospectus agrees with him:
For the course of his career, dating back to 1999, Gagne has posted a regular-season points-per-game total of 0.79; in the playoffs it’s a significant drop, to 0.49. He has scored more than 40 goals three times and has been very solid for Team Canada in international play; we’re not listing him here as a “choke artist,” simply as someone whose production does decline in the NHL postseason.

I’m not sure if that agrees with it. He definitely decreases production during the playoffs (who doesn’t?) but 0.5ppg isn’t terrible.
New Zealand's 4th best Philadelphia Flyers fan
They picked him for a reason… I’m not saying I agree with PP, but that’s a severe drop-off.
Richards: 0.76 to .86
Briere: 0.79 to 0.93
Carter: 0.73 to 0.45 (And what is Carter’s playoff reputation?)
Completely random players I picked – tried to pick one player from each team still remaining:
Jordan Staal: 0.51 to 0.41
Dany Heatley: 1.06 to 1.05
Mark Recchi: 0.95 to 0.81 (Lucic: 0.45 to 0.62, if Recchi isn’t optimal; Marc Savard: 0.89 to 1.00)
Marian Hossa: 0.93 to 0.79
Daniel Sedin: 0.78 to 0.63
Henrik Zetterberg: 0.94 to 0.94
Scott Gomez: 0.81 to 0.72
Gagne has a severe drop off. Yes, this isn’t scientific, but it’s a stretch to say Gagne is a playoff performer. The only time he’s had more than 0.588 pts/g (10 points in 17 games his rookie year) were back-to-back 4 point performances in 6 games. His playoff BEST ppg rate is 0.667.
Lupul has a 0.59 career playoff ppg; Prospal is at 0.57; Renberg 0.57; Amonte 0.56; J. Williams 0.56; Kuble is at 0.52; Desjardins 0.48…

This of course ignores the fact that he is one of the more underrated defensive forwards on the team and kills penalties as well.

He’s one of the best two-way players in the league. How does that show in his playoff scoring stats?
I love the Lightning AND the Flyers... go ahead, preach me!
The same way it shows in his regular season scoring stats.

Yeah, in this case, it’s more what he does for the team in terms of play making and defense. He was playing really well in the last 3rd of the season, played well in the final game of the season, and played well in the NJ series. Losing him, whatever his PPG average over several generations of Flyer’s teams, really doesn’t matter one bit right now. He left a very visible hole in the lineup.
I’d love to have him back if he was ready, but I don’t see that as being the case and the track record on Flyers players coming back before they were ready is absolutely horrible, from Lindros, to Forsberg, to Emery and Backlund earlier this year. Hockey is the most macho sport on earth and guys go out and play with injuries that are truly gruesome. It shouldn’t be left up to the player. Eric Lindros should never have been allowed to play after 3 concussions, but we all know what happened there.
I really doubt Gagne is playing tonight. Last night he was “Probable” for the game, today he is “Questionable.”
Mario made a good point about this (i.e. screwing with the other team and making them think he would play), but what, really, is the point of that? If the Flyers keep playing into the Bruins’ hands like they have all series, it doesn’t matter who they put on the ice.
And by “playing into the Bruins’ hands” I mean “constantly trying to generate chances on the rush when they know damn well by now that it isn’t working.”
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
any chance Giroux scores 4 goals and has 2 assists tonight?

If the Flyers play dump-and-chase and establish a strong forecheck, maybe.
I’ll be there to see for myself. I sure as hell don’t want to see a handshake line tonight. But if I do, I will clap because I’ve still got nothing but love for the Flyers, as disappointing as this year has been.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
me either, hopefully it will be a hell of a game regardless of the outcome and not some 8-0 smackdown.
