So you have a neckbeard and a stache? I only slightly want to see what that looks like.

I kinda like the idea of a playoff moustache. I shaved my beard two after game 3 to rid the bad luck.

Well, at least there’s no debate that Gagne being back was a positive effect and not a negative. So much for the whole “it would be better not to scratch Ross” discussion from yesterday, (No offense to those who participated in aforementioned argument….)

by DragonGirl0583 on May 7, 2010 10:19 PM EDT reply actions

lol, but Ross pretty much played on the second line last game!

Yeah, I wasn’t there, but I was just hoping he didn’t get hurt worse, and it wasn’t like Lindros. Glad I was wrong

No way would that be anything like Lindros. Gagne was only out for 4 games.

I admit I was a little worried about potential other injuries for various reasons, but I said yesterday that I hoped if nothing else he had a positive effect on the bench. He definitely contributed on the ice, but I think he may have contributed to morale a bit too. At least Betts agreed with me, anyway.

by DragonGirl0583 on May 7, 2010 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions

perhaps potenially getting out played by someone still injuried is a good motivator

by j reed on May 7, 2010 10:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t know if you saw it but they talked to Betts on the pre-game show and he mentioned just having him back in the locker room and seeing him put in the effort to get back, that’s what I was referring to, anyway.

by DragonGirl0583 on May 7, 2010 10:29 PM EDT up reply actions

No, got home in time for the third

by JerseyDriver on May 7, 2010 10:32 PM EDT up reply actions

no i didn’t see it. I don’t dismiss the importance of morale in sports which is something the advance metrics crowd seems to reject out some misunderstanding of scientific objectivity. However in its shallow over emphasis by coaches, sports journalism and broadcasters I always look at morale in sports as something that is driven both by self – sacrifice and self – perservation; that is there is nobility and false pride involved.

Nodl was awesome, I do not deny that. That line was great tonight.

I was just being silly, and throwing that out there since Travis got credit for calling it that Gagne would score the game winner in OT.

Yeah I just figured I would point it out being on a cell I kind of just clicked on a reply that was player performance related. But it’s good to see he’s making great strides and this is a line that would be good together next season as well and with lappy back next season should easily have two good grind lines as hopefully asham is resigned he can play a grinder role or play wing on a scoring line as well.

Sorry to rub it in, since my lament is my own fault. I was just trying to hold out to order all at once, and I’m waiting for the last one to go up.

I have lost count how many times I need to say this, it really bothers me. Versus CANNOT and SHOULD NOT have an announcer that is realted to either team playing on the telecast. It shows bias that can sway an audience and is unprofessional.

Save it for the regional telecasts.

I thought that sounded like a Boston accent. Really Versus? Are you really that stupid?

by j reed on May 8, 2010 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions

At least when they used Brickley for the Bruins series against the Hurricanes, they paired him with the Canes’ PbP announcer, John Forslund, so it kind of balanced it out.

It got to the point last night where Brickley had me cringing. A guy with a Boston accent should not be calling a Bruins national TV game.

Versus even put Eddie Olczyk (Blackhawks analyst) on last night’s Hawks-Nucks game with the aforementioned John Forslund. Hopefully all Vancouver fans got to watch that one on CBC…..

I know there is alot dislike of broadcasters in all of sports across the boards, it just something that never bothers me except for ESPN’s Steve Phillips – welll not anymore after he screwed the ESPN interin who happened to be Shrek’s cousin. I rarely complain about a broadcast, but this really pissed me off.

I don’t mind when they pair up announcers – it can be interesting if the guys have a decent working chemistry. Putting one team’s announcer and a neutral (or worse, two announcers from the same team) on a national telecast should be taboo.

Honor is no substitute for victory.

Just read on youtube (in the comments) that Simon’s goal shouldve been disallowed… I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time.

Yeah, I thought that then I watched it again, he wasn’t in the crease

by JerseyDriver on May 8, 2010 12:02 AM EDT up reply actions

Shouldn’t matter anyway if he didn’t interfere with rask then it is a goal and gagne didn’t interfere with him at all.

they might have thought it was kicked in?

by GIJimbo on May 7, 2010 11:34 PM EDT up reply actions

LOL. I had to find it and read the reason why it should be disallowed.

It has nothing to do with the “crease rule”, it’s the Mike Knuble Game 7 against Halak rule. Both required disallowed goal “due to interference with the goalkeeper.”

That person is an idiot.

I didn’t see an angle that showed Gagne having incidental contact within the crease with Rask (which is what would be required for that rule)…. Should I be going to look this up or are we fairly sure that didn’t happen?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AX6SDyy8x3Q

starts at around 1:31. I’m assuming that’s what they are talking about. But obviously, it did not affect the play at all.

If it did happen, it didn’t “impair his ability to defend his goal” which is what the rule requires.

It’s one loser on YouTube trying to use a goaltender interference rule to bitch about Gagne scoring a goal on the doorstep.

Exactly Geoff. Table 18 makes it easier, because it breaks situations down instead of making people try to understand the legal language.

The people on Youtube are trying to apply situation 1.C (Goal Keeper is in the crease, C. An attacking player makes incidental contact with the goalkeeper at the same time a goal is scored.), which would disallow the goal; when it’s actually closer to situation 1.A (Goal Keeper is in the crease, A. An attacking player is standing in the goal crease when the puck enters the crease then crosses the goal line. In no way does he affect the goalkeeper’s ability to defend his goal.), which is a good goal. Gagne didn’t make contact at the same time the goal was scored, watching it in slow motion you can see that Rask is able to regain his balance and establish position before the shot comes into the crease from Carle. Nothing prevents incidental contact before a goal as long as the goalkeeper is able to reestablish position before the shot arrives in the crease.

by DragonGirl0583 on May 8, 2010 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions

Incidental contact before Carle’s shot, Rask re-establishes position, Carle fires the shot, deflections off of Gagne’s stick and in. That commenter on YouTube needs to take the black and yellow glasses off because that is a good goal and it is not even close.
