Well, at least there’s no debate that Gagne being back was a positive effect and not a negative. So much for the whole “it would be better not to scratch Ross” discussion from yesterday, (No offense to those who participated in aforementioned argument….)
lol, but Ross pretty much played on the second line last game!

Yeah, I wasn’t there, but I was just hoping he didn’t get hurt worse, and it wasn’t like Lindros. Glad I was wrong

No way would that be anything like Lindros. Gagne was only out for 4 games.

I admit I was a little worried about potential other injuries for various reasons, but I said yesterday that I hoped if nothing else he had a positive effect on the bench. He definitely contributed on the ice, but I think he may have contributed to morale a bit too. At least Betts agreed with me, anyway.
by DragonGirl0583 on May 7, 2010 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions
I don’t know if you saw it but they talked to Betts on the pre-game show and he mentioned just having him back in the locker room and seeing him put in the effort to get back, that’s what I was referring to, anyway.
by DragonGirl0583 on May 7, 2010 10:29 PM EDT up reply actions
no i didn’t see it. I don’t dismiss the importance of morale in sports which is something the advance metrics crowd seems to reject out some misunderstanding of scientific objectivity. However in its shallow over emphasis by coaches, sports journalism and broadcasters I always look at morale in sports as something that is driven both by self – sacrifice and self – perservation; that is there is nobility and false pride involved.
One of my friends was asking why he wasn’t back yet. Said we needed Svoboda back. I believe the quote was “just get me skate on”

Oh, and by the way…. Travis and Kreider may have beaten me to the punch and made the official prediction that Gagne was going to win it in OT….
But let’s not forget what I said at 7:18, right at the beginning of the first, about Gagne:
I’ll be more than happy if he just parks himself on the post.Needless to say I got what I wanted! Hahaha.

Yeah I just figured I would point it out being on a cell I kind of just clicked on a reply that was player performance related. But it’s good to see he’s making great strides and this is a line that would be good together next season as well and with lappy back next season should easily have two good grind lines as hopefully asham is resigned he can play a grinder role or play wing on a scoring line as well.

Look at the goals rask has given up some have been soft and others on rebounds while Boucher has been left hanging out dry by the defense. At least when they used Brickley for the Bruins series against the Hurricanes, they paired him with the Canes’ PbP announcer, John Forslund, so it kind of balanced it out.
It got to the point last night where Brickley had me cringing. A guy with a Boston accent should not be calling a Bruins national TV game.
Versus even put Eddie Olczyk (Blackhawks analyst) on last night’s Hawks-Nucks game with the aforementioned John Forslund. Hopefully all Vancouver fans got to watch that one on CBC…..

Shouldn’t matter anyway if he didn’t interfere with rask then it is a goal and gagne didn’t interfere with him at all.

LOL. I had to find it and read the reason why it should be disallowed.
It has nothing to do with the “crease rule”, it’s the Mike Knuble Game 7 against Halak rule. Both required disallowed goal “due to interference with the goalkeeper.”
That person is an idiot.

I didn’t see an angle that showed Gagne having incidental contact within the crease with Rask (which is what would be required for that rule)…. Should I be going to look this up or are we fairly sure that didn’t happen?

starts at around 1:31. I’m assuming that’s what they are talking about. But obviously, it did not affect the play at all.

If it did happen, it didn’t “impair his ability to defend his goal” which is what the rule requires.
It’s one loser on YouTube trying to use a goaltender interference rule to bitch about Gagne scoring a goal on the doorstep.

Exactly Geoff. Table 18 makes it easier, because it breaks situations down instead of making people try to understand the legal language.
The people on Youtube are trying to apply situation 1.C (Goal Keeper is in the crease, C. An attacking player makes incidental contact with the goalkeeper at the same time a goal is scored.), which would disallow the goal; when it’s actually closer to situation 1.A (Goal Keeper is in the crease, A. An attacking player is standing in the goal crease when the puck enters the crease then crosses the goal line. In no way does he affect the goalkeeper’s ability to defend his goal.), which is a good goal. Gagne didn’t make contact at the same time the goal was scored, watching it in slow motion you can see that Rask is able to regain his balance and establish position before the shot comes into the crease from Carle. Nothing prevents incidental contact before a goal as long as the goalkeeper is able to reestablish position before the shot arrives in the crease.
by DragonGirl0583 on May 8, 2010 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions
Incidental contact before Carle’s shot, Rask re-establishes position, Carle fires the shot, deflections off of Gagne’s stick and in. That commenter on YouTube needs to take the black and yellow glasses off because that is a good goal and it is not even close.
