BSH Radio 22: An offseason primer, plus Tim McManus on the Backlund, the Phantoms
The first show of the offseason is chock full of hockey talk. In fact, it might be the longest show we've ever put together. To open, we're joined by Tim McManus of the Glens Falls Post Star. Tim was kind enough to join us for quite some time while we discussed the Flyers recent signing of Johan Backlund.
What does Backlund's signing mean for the rest of the organization's goaltending prospects? What does it mean for the Flyers goaltending search this summer? We also talk about the new news regarding the Phantoms eventual move to Allentown. What does the timetable look like?
The Hershey Bears won another Calder Cup this week. We talk about what that means for the rest of the league, and we talk about how awesome an organization the Bears are.
After Tim leaves us, we turn our focus back to the Flyers. No time to reminisce, really: it's full speed ahead to the offseason. We talk goaltending for a while, we talk Jeff Carter for a bit, and then we play a game. It's more interesting than this blurb suggests.
As always, get the show after the jump.

Great show guys
Tim McManus should jump in the game threads for next season for sure!
I can’t believe Geoff didn’t go with Randy Jones for 29.

You mean 6? I thought about it.

I remember Jones with 29 for some reason. Possibly from early in his career?

Huh. I don’t remember that. Must have been early.

I’d only know it from playing NHL something so maybe you missed the update that season. What are the chances you think that the Flyers make a move for one of the RFA goalies like Harding, now that the price has sorta been set by the Halak trade.

Who do they have that falls in the Lars category, though? Kevin Marshall (#41) and Andreas Nodl (#13) are the highest selected players not already NHL regulars. That’s not good enough.
The Flyers should probably tender an offer where they only give up a 3rd round pick or wait to see who doesn’t get tendered by July 1st.

UFA List
Maybe I’m missing it, but I thought this UFA list would make an interesting link for a fly-by/discussion.

So who says these are the "Top 50" UFAs? Some yahoo who thinks he knows everything?
I still say Johnny Boychuk is going to be a steal for someone. Solid D with PP skill and shot who can deliver the big hit and who’s UFA in that weird 26-or-older-and-played-less-than-whatever games category. The Bruins would love to keep him but Cap’n Cap Crunch won’t allow it, even though he’ll be a bargain on a 2 or 3 year deal. Would look great on the Flyer blueline.

I see
Shaone Morrisonn may be available too. If he’s UFA he’d look good on our blueline too but he’s be more expensive than Boychuk.
