See you in Pittsburgh: Flyers open 2010-11 season at Penguins, full schedule here
The Flyers and the NHL released the 2010-11 schedule today. We found out yesterday that they would open on the road in Pittsburgh and St. Louis, while they return home for the home opener against Colorado on Monday, October 11.
After that Colorado game, they'll play four more games at home, including another against Pittsburgh and one against Toronto. The Flyers play three of their six games against the Penguins in the month of October, actually. Very disproportionate.
There's a holiday road trip this year, just like every year. It's a bit late this season, though, not kicking off until December 28. It's a five game swing to Vancouver, LA, Anaheim and New Jersey. There are two other four-game-long road trips. The longest homestand kicks off the home schedule - five games in Philly from October 11 to October 23.
After the jump, the full schedule and a ton of highlights.

Aww. I really liked the home-and-home with the Rangers at the end of the season we had for the last two years. Why do away with that?

Gonna have to wear my EC Champs shirt to those games.
In Latvia, they're rooting for Bartulis' team, the Filadelfijas Flaieri!
Is there anywhere where I can still get one of those shirts?
I’m desperate to find one.

My family up in Philly picked up shirts for me and my boys. I think they were purchased at Modell’s. If they don’t have any left, how about Ebay? I saw this one there:

Damn. If only these were size Large. I had been looking on eBay for quite a while without success.
Yes, Modell’s is apparently sold out – at least on-line anyway.

Do you still have any family in the area? As of the middle of last week they still had racks of them at the Forman Mills near me, but you’d have to find somebody to ship it to you.

I live like 2 blocks from a Forman Mills and I could check it out for you. You’re looking for a large?
Yes, I am. I’d greatly appreciate it – it would be no problem getting payment to you if you were able to get one.
Well, let me know if you are successful. :) Thanks again in any case. :)

See you there.

it’s going to be a rowdy 13 days.
Just a brief glance tells me at least we don’t have to play Pittsburgh the day after another game, which happened a few times this last season, so there is that.
Looks like I won’t get to see the Flyers in person again until 2011.

Our last long/far road trip ends on March 19 – that’s good. After that, our games farthest from home are Buffalo, Ottawa, and Atlanta – not overly long flights to any of those three (and in the same time zone to boot).
I always liked the late December West Coast swing – it was great to watch during he holiday season. :) I hope this year’s is enjoyable as well.

I realize that everyone finds a reason to bitch about the schedule, but the NHL REALLY couldn’t find a way to have the Flyers play Chicago in Philly as well?
Seems like a missed oppourtunity for ratings on their part.
So much fail in this schedule. The schedule-makers should be ashamed of themselves. 3 games against the Pens to start off the year? I have no problem with home and home, but 3 games? too much fail

What are my chances of getting tickets to watch the Flyers beat the Penguins in the new Consol Energy Center? I’ll be back at school by that point. Now, I just need to find some fellow Flyers fans to with . . .

Nevermind, just checked Stubhub and the cheapest ticket is $200. Thats not happening. Guess I’ll just have to go to the bar.

They aren’t showing that game yet on Stubhub or even on the Penguins website or the website for Consol Energy Center. I guess I’ll just have to wait until they release sales for later games.

January looks like a trap
10 of the 12 games the Flyers play in January are against 2009-2010 playoff teams.

Well, at least we have a chance to dish the Penguins a loss in their first game in their new arena.
And the schedule looks a bit better in the sense that we don’t have 4 back to backs in the last month of the season and we don’t have that extremely long break where there was 1 game played in 12 days in the beginning of the season. I do wish we had 2 games against the Hawks and some of the other teams spread out a bit more, but I think that with this schedule they won’t have as much of a chance to get tired at the end of the season… plus if it comes down to the last game again we have the Islanders to beat, lol

13 out of 20 games in March to April are against teams that weren’t playoff teams in 09/10. So even if we end up having a slump, at least we can count on them to go into the playoffs into a high.
Hopefully.
