QOD Goal of the Regular Season
There were lots of great goals this year and for the fans that have been there for the Flyers we can recall lots of them. There were game winning goals, overtime goals, short handed goals, one times, breakaways, and empty netters. I was thinking about the best goals of the year, and on the day before the draft, I decided to take one last look behind before I start looking forward.
The Flyers opened up this year with two road wins and some great goaltending by Ray Emery. Game three was a horse of a different color. Early on the Flyers had to fight back. Richie had a hat trick, Ovi had a few goals, but at the end we found ourselves in overtime. With sweet time running out, Danny Briere tipped a loose puck into the back of the net for the first thriller-victory of the year. It gave us all great hope for the year and was a tremendous home opener.

Dan Carcillo does a lot for the Flyers. He hits, he fights, he talks, (he dives occasionally), and every once in a while he’ll find the back of the net (maybe by accident). This year against Toronto he managed to find the back of the net in one of the most spectacular goals that any Flyer put in all year. He came in on the left side around a defender, did a nifty toe-drag, threw in a fake to go stick side, got the goalie to bite, and with just a sliver of daylight between the pad and the post he managed to backhand it beautifully by the goalie. The only thing better than the goal was the celebration.

Right before the Olympic break the Flyers had back-to-back home and homes with the Devils and the Canadians. After a 3-2 win where Richie had the GWG in the late minutes of the third from a great pass from Kimmo who was behind the net, the Flyers found themselves in overtime in the back end of the series with the Devils. Simone Gagne couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat he was so cold at this point. His goalless streak had reached a remarkable high and you could see the frustration. That’s when he had the shift of his season buzzing around the Devils zone like an orange bumblebee. After numerous great chances he took the puck up the right side and curled towards the net. From about twenty feet out he let off a lazer beam that drilled the top right corner to give the Flyers a 3-2 OT win to sweep the Devils in the home and home and give them the momentum to win the next two against the Habs to go into the break with even more mo’.

In one of the worst Flyers games of the year, Claude Giroux shined. The Flyers blew a 2 goal lead and didn’t even get a point out of it. Earlier in the game Claude took the puck and scored a goal that I cant even describe, but I can give the link to.

10 seconds left. Giroux on the rush. Pronger joins. Giroux to Pronger. Flyers win. Man I wish that happened in the Cup.

Voted for Pronger's
just for the sheer awesomeness of watching a 4-flyer rush at the end, and an epic way to win the game. As for quality of goal, I’d be hard-pressed to choose between Giroux’s and Carcillo’s.
One of the most unlikely wins of the year
Amazing to watch over and over and over…

When I saw the headline but hadn’t read the choices yet, the first one to pop into my head was Giroux’s shootout goal against the Blues:

But of the above choices, it’s a tough one for me between Gagne’s against NJ and Giroux’s against the Thrashers. Gagne’s got my vote in the end, just from the sheer force of will he put into making something happen on that play.
