I didn’t see those, but then again, I wasn’t looking for them. I basically went in the shop to get a picture of that, and grab the SCF coin. I’ll take a look for you in game 4 if they sell them.
Thanks dude. You should also print out some of our t-shirts and take them around the store and go “Where can I get something this awesome? Seriously? Why don’t I see anything this sweet in this store? You should hire this guy do do stuff for you!”
But that one is completely up to you.

As MikeFive has said before, we have seen your work at games before. Put On Your Lappy Face was up there a couple series ago on an older gentleman on the big board. And hey, there is nothing stopping you from printing a bunch of t’s and doing the parking lot walk around before and after games. I bet you could sell a ton b/c they are actually nice, you might just have to adjust the pricing to compete with the junk they usually sell.
Assuming you ignore that you technically need a permit for that, I agree, go and sell some shirts in the parking lot.

Carter has got to be about 65% right now. It’s that or he really is just god-awful at playing wing.
I hope it’s the first explanation.

Or somewhere in between.
If he wasn’t the worst Flyer on the ice last night, he was pretty damn close.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
he made one nice skate back to break up a 2-1, but other than that, he morphed into the “unispired-no emtion-no effort in a big game” jeff carter that I consistently want to trade for picks…
I actually was hoping that the Gagne no goal in OT was knocked in by Carter prior to the whistle, so that I could at least justify him being dragged around the ice the whole game by Richards and Gagne.

I know Geoff likes it when we talk about the articles.
I liked the Puck Prospectus one, it kind of gives a happy medium on the terribly awful Leighton to the SO leader in this year’s playoffs, Leighton.
Loved all the hugging in the Wachovia reaction to the GWG last night.

Agreed. I am not sure what to think of Leighton right now. While I appreciate how good he seemed to be in the previous series’s, he has not looked all that good this series. I actually think he has looked worse on some of the shots that weren’t goals then some of the ones that were. For instance I do not fault him for any of the three goals he gave up last night…a deflection, a screen and a break away, not a whole lot the goalie could do there…maybe come out of the net a bit on Kane’s break away but that’s about it. But he has looked so piss poor on rebounds and going down way to early. The Hawks know it to which is why so many of their shots are going well above the net, they are purposely aiming top shelf. Game 1 he had no defense what so ever and in game two…Kraji should have cleared the puck on the first goal. I still contend that Leights should have stopped Eager’s shot and I know Geoff disagrees with that, and that’s fine. But like I said, he looks worse on the saves then he does on the ones that make it in the net. I actually think I would be more confident if Boosh was in there.

I should also preface that by saying that I think part of why I have so little confidence in Leighton right now is because I have watched a guy in Niemi who was supposed to be the Hawks only weakness, look absolutely lights out for two games. He flat out stole game 2 and nearly did the same thing in game 3. Dude is a rookie in the SCF and he is playing like Patrick Roy.

He’s a rookie in the NHL, but he has a good amount of playoff experience in the Finnish leagues, with Kiekko-Vantaa and Pelicans Lahti, and some AHL experience with the IceHogs, while Leighton has OHL and AHL playoff experience. If you count the non-NHL leagues, Niemi’s played 23 playoff games (12 SM-Liiga, 9 Mestis, 2 AHL), and Leighton’s played 43 (24 OHL, 19 AHL).
Honor is no substitute for victory.
You know, I don’t disagree with much you said. In fact, I’ll just say I generally agree.
The important part to remember is that I don’t like Leighton. I don’t want him to be re-signed, I didn’t want him plucked off waivers, etc. And while he doesn’t look good this series, there’s something to be said for Leighton proving his skill level.
Something not directed at you: When JpH was complaining about the Hawks’ second goal, I went back and watched it again. I still don’t think Leighton is more than 60% responsible, but the puck didn’t go over his shoulder. It went around his blocker. There’s no angle which shows me whether Leighton was too far back in his crease, not expecting the shot, not in the proper position, screened, etc. But something bad happened there.
Long story: Leighton is what he is, which is worse than Niemi. He is not a starting goalie in the NHL, he is a 1-B at best.

yup, there isn’t much we can do about it now except hope and pray and maybe sacrifice some chickens to the hockey gods that we can win in spite of Leighton or I’ll even take because of him ( the former being the result last night)
we are pretty lucky that our defense (at least our top 4) is ridiculously good.

I don’t think it’s hate; it’s concern. The issue is that Boucher isn’t appreciably better, even though I think he could make some saves that Leighton couldn’t—but honestly, we don’t know how healthy he is and there doesn’t seem to be the same sense of urgent play in front of him that Leighton seemingly receives. (if that makes any sense)

Okay, does Leighton really need to be concerned over everyday on this threads. We are in the stanley cup finals, he did help us get here despite all of his obvious weaknesses (3 shutouts) and we did win last night…
I’m just saying a little perspective would be nice.

No, you’re entirely right. And the hate really does get to me too, but the underlying concern is valid. I don’t think he’s nearly as bad as a lot of people say he is, but he isn’t nearly as good as people were saying he is a week ago.
Really, my concern is SanFilippo’s source saying they have “the guy” in Leighton. I’m fine with him this year (he’s a flippin’ steal) but I do not want Leighton/Boucher next year.

Exactly—don’t consider Leighton/Boucher as the future tandem for this team. It is not the solution. They need to build around a young goaltender for the future. It’s fine to keep Leighton or Boucher as backup, but you can’t keep both.

Every successful blog needs its share of optimists and pessimists. There’s only so many statements you can make about how awesome the win was last night, and it was.
But what I was pointing to, and what Geoff reiterated, is that we hope the franchise hasn’t been blinded from his success, which is due to the system in which he plays. Notice I said I didn’t think Bouch would be all that much better, as opposed to what MarioD would say on the matter.
The subject came up, so we discussed it. It’s better than talking about trolls or how no one ever thought we were in this thing.

i have no hate for Leighton, he is what he is, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t analyze his game and voice the fact that he isn’t quite the same goalie we had in previous series.
I’m all for talking about how bad Carter was last night, how Carcillo has the ref’s target on his back and why the Latvian wolf didn’t play after the 2nd.

Yeah don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate Leighton. I don’t really have feelings towards the guy one way or the other except gratitude for what he has done to get us to this point. But like others said, I am concerned. Leighton is not a starter and while he is doing his best impression of a starter and has thus far earned his job for THIS SEASON, as Geoff pointed out, I do not want the front office once again getting sucked into the notion that just because a guy plays well for a period of time like Leighton has that he is suddenly anything more than he is. (wow that was one hell of a run on) We might win the cup, we might not, either way, I wouldn’t want Leighton back. Boosh is signed for next year, great, we have our back up. Now go out with the roughly 4 mil you are going to have and find me a starter not named Carey Price. What Leighton is doing, and has done for some time this season is an apparition and that is not to be confused with reality.

Not to be too condescending about this (but just a little you know for the kids) can I borrow your crystal ball? I’d like to see the future as well.
You can’t know whether or not this just a flash unless you give Leighton a shot to play a full year as the starter, signing him or letting him go have their risks. But all could be discussed after the season is over… Ugh- i just did what I didn’t want to do which is start talking about next year…

To be fair, I’m still not sold that there are consistently great goalies beyond one or two at a time. Yes, you’ll have your Roys, your Haseks, your Brodeurs, who perform at a high level for a decade. You’ll also have your Lalimes, with a few years of brilliance and multiple years of suck, or your Andy Moog who has one great year and is atrocious every other year. I think it’s far more important to ensure the blue line is solid, with good speed and intelligence, and have a less expensive goalie who may not be ridiculously good, but is consistent and gives his team a chance night in and night out.
Honor is no substitute for victory.
I agree. If you have a great D such as say Nashville, then even having a decent goalie can make you that much better. But in the absence of a great D, which the Flyers do not have, then you need a better goalie. Our top 4 can not play 32 minutes a game every game for an entire season, that’s not even arguable. If this team is going to go on the cheap and bring back Leighton then they better sure as hell use the roughly 2 mil they will save and bring in two actual guys who can play defense and not two traffic cones with hockey sticks.

I don’t get to watch a lot of him. I’ve watched a lot of Rinne, and they are my favorite team out west, but I tend to ignore Ellis b/c of my fandom for Rinne. Any scouting notes other than his stat lines. And by scouting notes I mean people that have watched him, not cliches or stuff I can google.
Well, here’s a post on Nashville’s free agents, and nobody – including the comments – wants to see him go. Not really a scouting report (a lot of people like him as a person) but nobody had a bad thing to say about him.

Yeah I can agree with that, I’m just trying to think about real possibilities for next season while I come off the high from last night’s win. Ellis is solid, from the little I’ve seen, but he also plays behind a very solid defense, which he would have here as well, but still, he has lost the starting job behind that good defense. So I’m not sold necessarily on him, just curious about him.
Ahhhhh- please imagine a freakish 31 year old taking his pants off in the office and screaming what the hell are you talking about?! Dan Ellis?!

I don’t want to continue the discussion until after the season, but I’m fully behind the group that has said here before that I’d rather shore up a solid defense and work around an average goalie than give big bucks to “the next sure thing” in net…

Agreed, I’m part of that group, but neither goalie right now is my average goalie of choice for next year.
I think either could be an average goalie…I don’t know enough about it. I saw what a difference a good goalie coach can do with Bryzgalov this year under Sean Burke and the Flyers seem to have gotten similarly improved coaching from Reese. So I’m not entirely ready to say because of Leighton’s history, he can’t be a very good goalie…he’s been great all year for the Flyers, generally.

Well, Bryzgalov was a very good goalie who became great. Leighton is an average goalie who is playing well.

Yes, and no. Bryz had talent, no doubt, but there’s a reason that he was on waivers when the Coyotes got him. And while he played fairly well his first year here, the difference this year has been noticeable. His positioning and rebound control were consistently improved. The shame was he didn’t steal a single game from the Red Wings…would’ve probably won us the series if he had been able to do that…next year.

It was just always a running joke at Penn. They sell shirts that say “Not Penn State” just so folks don’t keep complimenting you on your football program. I respect the hell out of Penn State, just never really cheered for them or anything.

If it makes you feel any better I grew up a Cowboys fan. Ironically I grew up in South Jersey and it wasn’t until I went away to school that I saw the error of my ways and started rooting for the Eagles.
On a side note, I love Phoenix and would love to live there, the wife however wants no part of it. Doesn’t want to move away from the family.

I have been out there a few times. Family moved out there. Went to a DBacks game, loved the stadium. Grew up and am still a Suns fans so I would love to see a game there.
I think Pitt is a nice city, could be so much better if the city itself was actually opened passed 5pm. But yeah the weather there sucks. I travel there every so often for work.

He doesn’t have a great Defense in Vancouver and came up clutch in the Olympics. 0.919 SV PCT 2.46 GAA in the playoffs for his career. That is good enough for me. These AHL guys haven’t done anything in the playoffs.
True, but for Luongo’s price and age, I would rather throw my chips at a younger guy who will cost less and give us the flexibility to spend elsewhere. But I can’t disagree with your thinking that a proven goalie is better than as you said below, dealing with growing pains for a few more years.

I have lost a lot of confidence in Luongo, maybe if he wasn’t getting paid like he is, but that’s way too much money for a guy that hasn’t carried a team to or through much of anything.
I agree. He has the skills that a good goaltender should have, but why in the hell can’t he put it together in the postseason? (And for that matter, why does he have the contract he does when he has never proven his worth when it matters most.)
Yes, he got the Gold Medal game, but without Canada’s D-men, he wouldn’t have won it.

How about instead of a crystal ball I give you a history book? I am basing my assumption, which I guess in a sense is a guess, on Leighton’s prior stats. And those stats tell me that Leighton for his career is not as good as his numbers right now indicate he is. Now,does that mean that he can’t play like this from here on out? No it doesn’t. And it doesn’t mean that he will regress back to what his stats indicate he is. However those stats do say that there is more proof that he is a 1B as Geoff put it, than it does that he is a 1A. That is all I am saying. And given the choice between Leighton and a potential free agent with a better track record, I will take the free agent with a better track record every time. As someone said above and as I have said 1000 times before. Leighton is a product of the system he plays in, like Boosh and Emery before him. Just like the Denver Bronco’s seemed to be able to insert every Tom, Dick and Harry in at RB and he would get 1,000 yards. It’s all about the system. Give me the guy that got 800 yards behind a MASH unit O-line over the guy that got 1,200 for the Bronco’s any day.

My question for you is do AHL stats count as track record. Leighton is 29 years old entering his peak of his career and his AHL numbers if you are going to count them are pretty solid especially his AHL playoff numbers. I want to acquire a young high pedigree goalie too but not at the cost of Jeff Carter and given Pronger and Kimmo’s age I don’t want to waste these last 3 years or so going for the growing pains with an unproven kid with no NHL experience.
Ahhhh- I can’t resist-
Ellis won’t be that cheap (he will probably cost about as much as Lieghton I would guess 2-3 mill per year) and if you thin Leighton has 5 hole problems….
"Game 7's are tough... It's a game that's made for men and our guys proved to be men today." -Laviolette
And as I mentioned above I haven’t watched enough of him, and I’m not sold on him or anything; which is why I brought him up for discussion, so I could possibly learn if this would be something the front office should pursue, or if it’s dumb.
I would like to speak more with you about this… I would just like to do it later. Like 8-10 days from now…
"Game 7's are tough... It's a game that's made for men and our guys proved to be men today." -Laviolette
given Pronger and Kimmo’s age
I had never thought about this. Realising this makes me want Ellis over any young unproven goalie. Ellis should be good for at least 5 years, and is getting paid $2mill a season atm to back-up and is a UFA. I wonder what he would cost to be brought in as a starter, and who else would be looking for a goalie to drive the price up.
New Zealand's 4th best Philadelphia Flyers fan
I don’t see Ellis making more than $3 mil per. And if he’s signed to a 4 year deal, it’d probably be closer to $10-11 mil than $13, so I’m not opposed to Ellis as a backup-plan.

I enjoyed watching Daneyko and Roenick argue about the Byufglien slashing penalty on the Daily Line last night. Daneyko was like, it’s in the book, if you break a player’s stick you go to the box, and Roenick was acting like they should change the rule because he doesn’t like the call on Buff.
In Latvia, they're rooting for Bartulis' team, the Filadelfijas Flaieri!
I hate that call as well just because sticks break nowadays under a strong wind gust. Didn’t Hamerljusson (yeah, however you spell it) snap his which almost led to a Briere goal in the 3rd?
I just remember Giroux being the victim of that last year in the Pens series, -game 1, OT, gave the pens a 5-3, which they promptly scored on.

Buff broke Pronger’s stick on purpose because he was tired of getting cross checked. So, both players are guilty of a rule violation, but the difference is that while the refs may miss the cross-check, they can’t miss the broken stick laying on the ice.
In Latvia, they're rooting for Bartulis' team, the Filadelfijas Flaieri!
oh, I agree, the penalty on Buff’s was necessary, but Pronger should have gotten 2 as well, which I think is what JR was saying. It was comical though.

Totally agree, and this is why people hate Pronger. He’s smart enough to realize that the slash/stick break is an automatic penalty so he doesn’t go there, but he knows can get away with a bunch of cross-checks which have the intended effect of pissing off the recipient of said cross-checks and causing the desired emotional reaction.
In Latvia, they're rooting for Bartulis' team, the Filadelfijas Flaieri!
JR certainly doesn’t lack charisma, and he does have some some comical “fights” with other commentators. I think he honestly thinks the guys he’s talking to have the hockey IQ of a 2 year old (or Ben Eager)

Sad that Hartnell got booed during intros. He’s been playing really well this postseason and that deserves to be recognized. Forget the regular season stats; that stuff doesn’t matter right now. Donkeys.

I didn’t notice the boos during intros for Hartnell and I was at the game. Are you sure his name wasn’t introduced as the Blackhawks took the ice…
Everyone in my section was talking about how he has really stepped his game up in the playoffs, or more so returned to form.
It sure sounded like boos on the video on 700level.com. He was introduced right before Leino, who received resounding applause. I wasn’t there, so different sections might have heard differently.
"Tortorella’s got it all wrong ... Gaborik shouldn’t be messing with our skilled player." -Peter Luukko
I would guess it coincided with when the Blackhawks took the ice. I sit in the section behind the Flyers bench, and can’t really see when the opposing team first takes the ice, but I noticed the cheers go to boos immediately. I don’t know when that happened exactly, but my guess would be that’s what the boos were, b/c the boos filled the stadium as soon as the Hawks took the ice, which was at some point during intros. So I think what you saw/heard in the video was misleading.
OK, thanks for clarifying. I mean, I’m not trying to start anything, but outsiders watching that use it as fuel to show how “classless” we are as a fanbase in booing our own players in the Final.
"Tortorella’s got it all wrong ... Gaborik shouldn’t be messing with our skilled player." -Peter Luukko
Yeah, I mean from my angle I can’t say how it was exactly timed out, but I know all of a sudden the massive boos made me turn my head, and I saw Hawks taking the ice. So, if I were to guess what happened, that’s what it was, b/c most of us were still clapping and cheering when the boos started. Everyone was really fired up, and they were very supportive of the team last night. The worst reaction to anything Flyers was the nervous silence after Kane’s goal. Other than that, it was all cheering and supporting the home team and booing the away team or officials.
I hate to ruin tomorrow’s fly by, but the guys over at C&B do an awesome job of charting the game…
If you go based on the 3 game recaps, Hawks fans should feel lucky they are up 2-1.

Pilgrim: Be gone pest, and give me the Bird

still an RFA, should only receive a small increase to slightly more than $1M/year. I can’t imagine he doesn’t get re-signed.
Support Coyotes Hockey - Five For Howling
(Oh, and go Philly teams as well!)
I can. Now I love Carcillo, was even one of the very few that liked him when he got traded, but I would rather use the 1 mil on a guy thats gonna play all season AND postseason, not just a guy thats plays in the regular season. Also, whats the reports from Upshall, he said on Twitter that hes healthy, but what are the chances that Phx resigns him, cause I would love him back in Orange.
Pilgrim: Be gone pest, and give me the Bird
Yakko: We'd love to but the FOX censors wouldn't allow it
See, I think Carcillo can play fine in the postseason. He had a rough game yesterday, but he was very solid in the first three rounds when he was on the ice, I thought. He’s also a guy that is still maturing and becoming a better player every year. I think for the $1M, he’s well worth having.
As for Scottie, all reports are that his rehab is going well and his knee keeps getting stronger. He’s certainly been getting around enough recently, so I hope so. I can’t speculate on what’s going on with the Phoenix front office because of the ownership fiasco, but I believe the odds of him not signing with the Coyotes (he’s also an RFA) are between slim and none.
Support Coyotes Hockey - Five For Howling
(Oh, and go Philly teams as well!)
well, it comes down to who would we rather have, Asham or Carcillo? Now like I said, I like Carcillo as a person more, but Asham is a better leader, defender, and scorer then Carcillo. Plus, Carcillo only seems to have chemistry with Richards, where Asham can produce with anyone he plays with.
Pilgrim: Be gone pest, and give me the Bird
Yakko: We'd love to but the FOX censors wouldn't allow it
Not sure that they can’t afford to keep both. Neither of these guys are going to break the bank.
Support Coyotes Hockey - Five For Howling
(Oh, and go Philly teams as well!)
well, we need to be able to resign Carter, Giroux, JVR, and Carel soon, so I assume that the organization will try and get those guys under contract before they start signing 4th line guys.
Pilgrim: Be gone pest, and give me the Bird
Yakko: We'd love to but the FOX censors wouldn't allow it
So next season, we need two forwards, two defensemen, and a goalie, with Carter, Giroux, and Gagne having next season as the last on their contract, and JVR and Carel with two years left. now we have two D-men that could be up as early as next season, so even if you take them out, you still need two forwards and a Goalie to sign before next season with 5 key players that will need extensions soon.
Pilgrim: Be gone pest, and give me the Bird
Yakko: We'd love to but the FOX censors wouldn't allow it
Carcillo should get like a 1-2 year deal, nothing more. I think we are going to run into a problem when Giroux, Gagne, Carter, and Leino come up for contracts next year. Leino to me looks amazing right now, and I can see why the Wings were so high on him, but we haven’t a large sample size to go off so it’s too soon to talk about what to do with him. I can only see us keeping 3 of them and the biggest decision will be Giroux or Carter. I can definitely see Carter getting traded.
by historywillbemade on Jun 3, 2010 3:30 PM EDT up reply actions
well, I can see Gagne taking a pay cut, because hes not gonna gett near what hes getting somewhere else anyway. Plus, I think he likes it here too. I also think Leino wont cost more then 1.5-2 mill anyway.
Anyway, Cap geek has a prjected cap of $56.8 mill next year, and the Flyers will have 48 mill under contract, giving them about 8 mill next season. Lets say Giroux goes from 1 mil to 4 mill, and carter stays at 5, you now have 5 mil, and say Leino signs at 1.5, you have 3.5 mil. Say Asham/Carcillo sign for a mil, you now have 2.5 to spend on a goalie and another forward.
Now, If they trade Hartnell for Bernier(or other AHL goalie), that frees another 4.2 mil, giving us 6.7 mil to spend, and say we sign said goalie to a long term, 3 mil a year, that gives us about 3.5 Mil in Cap to sign 1 forward, or bring up Nodl or Ross for 4th line.
So a full roster with Carter and Giroux, with over 3 mill in cap, and thats without the fact that the Cap will most likley rise
Pilgrim: Be gone pest, and give me the Bird
Yakko: We'd love to but the FOX censors wouldn't allow it
Hard to project cap 2 years down the road for when (I think) some of these contracts are for. I don’t disagree with the general prognosis, but just not sure about all the numbers. For example, as much as we love Giroux, I find it hard to imagine he would get 4 M/year unless he does something tremendous next year.
Support Coyotes Hockey - Five For Howling
(Oh, and go Philly teams as well!)
well, I used the highest possible salery i could think of, we could have more then 3 mil maybe upwards to 6-7 mil. I was just using that to say we could afford both Giroux and Carter
Pilgrim: Be gone pest, and give me the Bird
Yakko: We'd love to but the FOX censors wouldn't allow it
I gotcha. I think we are in agreement though, that, generally the Flyers can afford to sign these guys with a bit of tinkering. They’re not in the cap situation that Chicago finds themselves in, at least.
Support Coyotes Hockey - Five For Howling

I actually thought this last night, that if the guy is going to get scratched in the playoffs, why resign him, but he is a very nice depth player and every organization needs those types of guys for the long season

Could depend on how much Asham wants and if Asham wants to stay which I think he will since from what I read he likes Laviolette a lot.
Cap issues over-rated for next season ...
Asham is also significantly older than Carcillo. While I actually like both players, if I had to choose I’d keep Carcillo on that basis alone. But I agree with the analysis by JpH – I think these two aren’t going to be bank-breakers regardless. The only question mark comes with any Phantoms that may be looking for a promotion. Gagne should take a pay cut in a year, but I’d like to see him retire as a Flyer. The UFAs for next season are Krajicek, Asham, and Leighton; the RFAs are Coburn, Carcillo, Parent, and Powe. (Not to mention Phantoms UFAs Syvret, Dingle, Pyorala, Backlund, and Ross or RFAs Matsumodo, Laliberte, and Teslak). Now if we figure that we let Krajicek walk but resign Leighton and Asham, then Coburn, Powe, and Carcillo are tendered offers, I figure they’ve spent $5.8 million or so. I’d also move Cote for a pick (as long as he agrees to leave Holly here). That leaves +/- $3 million in the bank, with only one defense spot open on the third pairing; maybe Syvret gets his chance (which would leave some $ for Phantom moves too). So you’d be looking at a very similar lineup to this year’s – Gagne, Richards, Carcillo; Hartnell, Carter, Briere; JVR, Giroux, Leino; Lappy, Betts, Asham/Powe. I like keeping Powe as the spare forward, since he is comfortable at either wing and plays physical without just being a brawler like Cote. Defense would be Pronger/Carle, Timonen/Coburn, Bartulis/Syvret. Goalies are Leights and Boosh.
I’d take that lineup! Then the following year, resign Carter at around the $5 million he already gets, give Gagne a longer but cheaper contract, give Leino and G raises. It will all work out – promise! Homer looked crazy at times with these moves in the past, but I have (to paraphrase Lavvy) full confidence!

Pretty funny sign from last night.

In Latvia, they're rooting for Bartulis' team, the Filadelfijas Flaieri!
No Kane and cabbies signs? I was sure there would be some of those and I’m kind of disappointed.

she does make a great point with this though:

I use to love Whack-a-Mole…..

It deserves a link
I thought it was great work. Just be aware that there are a lot of comments, which means it might not be for you if a) your browser gets slowed by such things or b) you’re not prepared to hear (by some, and only in the comments) that the Flyers are terrible and should feel honored the Blackhawks have deemed us worthy of not being swept.
I know better than to take that personally, since every fan base has those kinds of fans. Still, I (sports) HATE those kinds of fans.
and mini-rant aside, it’s a great, great read and should not be diminished by the participation of others.
I actually liked it. And the screen-cap breakdown confirms what I had been saying all along. Duncan Keith may have made the wrong play, but pretty much any move he made would have been criticized.

Really? The object isn’t to get the puck in the net still?

Picard is Pleased With Your Success

It was about time that the Flyers got their dues for their efforts in the Stanley – I’ll make a point of stopping by here more often from here on out. My undue absence since leaving school coincided with the Flyers snagging the East, and I had only just started reading on here again yesterday… so I’ll be by again tomorrow : )
An excellent game last night, and it goes without saying (but I’ll spit it out anyways) that the “superior and infallible” Hawks have now been seen bleeding, same as any other team. Keep making them bleed for 3 more. And if I had spare change, I’d definitely pick up a Pronger jersey right about now. I was a real fan of the guy in his time with Anaheim, and Philadelphia is now reaping the rewards from one heck of a good player.
GO FLYERS!
Just saw this Tweet by Sarah Baicker:
Seriously, though, Leino wasn’t happy with his time on ice – and he thought he could sneak it past the American media! Here is her post on it on CSNPhilly.com

Despite his apparent ignorance for the cap and draft picks, Homer can swindle other GMs with trades.

lol Homer just makes other gms look terrible. For example, best trade deadline pickup was Leino for any team and Homer basically got him as a gift while teams like NJ blew their future load on Kovy

Certainly the performance of Leino in the postseason made him a great pickup, but I’d still argue that Don Maloney made killings at the trade deadline picking up Wolski and Stempniak…couldn’t get through the Red Wings, but next year…

Yeah I liked what Phoenix did too. But they had to give up Mueller to the Av’s. How did he completely lose value I thought he was a good prospect?

Yeah, he certainly found his game with Colorado as well. The team screwed him up a bit. After his rookie season, they told him to bulk up…so he put on 15 pounds in the offseason. But then he was a bit too slow to be a difference maker, so he trimmed back a bit. He didn’t have the same season. The big issue was that he got concussed late in the year and was just never the same in the corners. With Tippett coming in, he just didn’t want to play that defensive-first style and he was a healthy scratch a few nights. Apparently at that point he asked for a trade and shut down. I was happy for him that he played better in Colorado (along with Kevin Porter, who also didn’t get a fair shot here). Maloney also gave up Chad Kolarik who could be good. But I think on the whole, he got a lot of return.

Like what he did with Nashville in 06/07
That was downright dirty

Just to recap, I think it was the Flyers trade Peter Forsberg at the deadline to Nashville for Scottie Upshall, Ryan Parent, a 1st round pick and a 3rd round pick. At the end of the season, the Flyers trade Nashville’s 1st rounder back to them in exchange for the rights to Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell, who are promptly signed by the Flyers to long-term deals. Forsberg does not re-sign with Nashville. Flyers win.

Carcillo
Put Dan back on Gagne, Richards line and give him the minutes he was getting earlier in the play offs and watch that line start to produce. The key though is Lavy has to let him take his regular turn with the rest of the line and play the 3rd period.( please see Carcillo’s game winning overtime goal early play offs. Also every move the guy makes is magnified by fans, media and coach. There are certainly other players who make their share of mistakes or take poorly timed penalties—-Richards, Pronger, Hartnell—-.Dan makes a mistake everyone wants to sit him or make him inactive. You leave that line together for next year ,let Carcillo get his full minutesand I think give him some Power Play time, that line will put up the points and Dan has the ability to get 20 goals himself. As for Cote,if we get anything in a trade for him I would be amazed, the guy just doesn’t have a lot of hockey skills.GO FLYERS we win in 7.
Carcillo has seemed really off lately and I believe he is hurt but I think that there is something to be said about breaking up the super line of Gagne-Richards-Carter bc it hasn’t been working. Obviously you don’t touch the Briere line at this point, but I can see good in putting Carter down on the 3rd line with Giroux as long as they keep Asham on that line as Asham makes space, Giroux makes the plays, and Carter does his sniper thing. However, I think maybe 1st line just needs more time to gel and that Lavvy is more likely to put JVR back in for Carbomb and then leave the lines as is with JVR returning to G’s wing
