Solely for “PWECO Pwower Pway!”

I love the Flyers so much I even went to Bobby Clarke Day Camp.

Scott Hartnell

Anyone know what his recent off ice issues were? I know on the ice it’s staying on his feet… Was he pulling a Lupul and being lazy or is there something more? I want the dirt.

by McNabbSoup on Jun 4, 2010 10:58 AM EDT reply actions

there was a thing last summer but i don’t know if that is the issue – a damaging and totally incorrect blog about harts personal life that must have got a million hits.

by fitzy first on Jun 4, 2010 11:04 AM EDT up reply actions

i remember that.. and was hoping they were unrelated. I’m still a little bitter about how rod the bod’s “off ice issues”, thanks to mr lindros, got him shipped out of town.

yup – that turned out great for Brind’Amour though

by fitzy first on Jun 4, 2010 11:14 AM EDT up reply actions

sure did. interesting stat: though brind’amour played 5 more seasons than primeau, they finished with identical PPG totals (0.68/gm) since the trade.

preems: 312 GP, 213 Points

rod the bod: 696 GP, 476 Points

yes- it was a good trade; preems was a good flyer… difference is rod won the cup

So maybe there was some truth to that nasty little story about Carter and Hartnell’s smoking hot wife

by historywillbemade on Jun 4, 2010 11:30 AM EDT up reply actions

NO TRUTH TO THAT AT ALL !!!

by fitzy first on Jun 4, 2010 11:35 AM EDT up reply actions

This article says it’s that he broke up with his wife, but i don’t know if that’s for real information or just the cuckolded-by-Carter meme coming around again.

by ohnickels on Jun 4, 2010 11:15 AM EDT up reply actions

This is what I was thinking while reading that article. I have no idea if it’s true or not, but I would really have to guess that it was relationship issues with his wife. That seems to be the kind of thing you wouldn’t talk to the press about, but would have a huge impact on your game. If it was an illness to someone in the family I’m sure he would say something.

He’s not the only one, I heard, while most of them could just be rumors, family issues could have been the cause of a lot of the team’s inconsistencies this season.

Really we should stop allowing players to get married/produce children/have parents that get sick. It only leads to trouble.

What is going on with Carcillo / JVR any lineup changes ???

In order

  • That list is weak. Where’s the fight night vs Ottawa game? What about the amazing regular season comeback against Carolina down 5-1 in the 3rd period.

*We got what we wanted…more Villie Leino!

  • I love Chris Pronger and his media pwnability. The man is just a master.
  • Does that article on Hartnell’s off-ice issues scream “Drugs & Alcohol” to anyone else?
  • DGB is hilarious
  • Although it might not be the popular choice I have to go with the Torontonian superfan because he’s cognizant of what he’s doing. The girl is adorable and fun but she doesn’t really get the Flyers yet. She’s just memorizing, but let’s face it, it’s probably the best thing to memorize. Btw, where the eff was youtube when I was a kid, I was cuter than her and I could have named all the Flyers by number too. Stupid technology!

My list for Geoff

1. Geoff, what games would you put on Sanfillippo’s list that he missed. I remember almost all of those games and they were all barn burners for sure. In response to some of the suggestions of regular season games being there, while I can appreciate them, they don’t carry the magnitude of playoff games.

2. I wonder if Bourne is still Mario’s favorite hockey writer now that he is on the Lavy bandwagon?

3. Pronger is just f’ing awesome. Win or lose the guy has given me my entertainment value in spades. Not much more needs to be said about him.

4. Off ice issues? Really? Nah, couldn’t be…i think this article goes a long way to explaining in my mind that Hartnell’s year was an aberration vs. the sign of what he really is like as a player.

5. Winter Classic should be different teams every year. Why not invite the warm weather teams so they get a shot. For example, you could have Colorado vs. SJ or something like that. I think regardless of star power, you got to rotate.

6. Was Matt Stairs wearing a Penn State hat?

7. Adorable girl reciting names for one reason only. The Canadian dude was blasting Nickleback which is an automatic FAIL.

Sanfillippo apparently thinks that the Hextall was still playing for Flyers in 2003. I mean I know Cechmanek went batsh*t crazy but he was awesome for awhile. Interesting stat: Cechmanek is Flyers’ all-time leader in GAA

it was, but it didn’t mean anything. I remember dvr’ing that game, coming in from the store, seeing we were down 5-1 and just going in the other room to clean up with the TV on. Then I heard the Flyers score, watched the replay, left, heard them score again, came in to watch the replay, left, until it was like 5-4…then I watched the rest. It was a great game, but with so many epic nail biters in the playoffs the last 10 years, it doesn’t make my top 10.

It’s not so much the games that are missing (I’m terrible at remembering games and saying “He forgot THAT one!”), even though I am disappointed one isn’t there, it’s the ordering of the games.

  • I think Wednesday’s game is far too high
  • The five-overtime game is far too low
  • And I think Game 3 from 2000 ECF (or 4, if you prefer) should be on there. That series was epic, even though they lost.

I would agree, I kept looking for the 5-OT game.

Wednesday’s game deserves a high slot if they a) make this a series of 6 or 7 games or b) win this series because this would be considered the turning point.

I agree with the 2000 ECF game as well.

Maybe one of the games vs. Montreal in the 2008 run should have been there, like the game 2 win in Montreal or game 3 win.

That Ottawa fight game needs to be there that is probably the last regular season game Comcast broadcast as an Encore the following evening prime-time. But the 2000 and 2004 run have tons of great games. The 5 OT game and Andy Delmore game were awesome.

by chrislanci on Jun 4, 2010 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions

But the problem is that the Ottawa fight game wasn’t a great “game”. It had a great ending, but not because of hockey.

That game meant a lot because OTT owned us for a long time and knocked us out of the playoffs . That game was huge for the team and marked a turning point for me leading up the 2004 run. The list is for greatest Flyers game and that game personified Flyers hockey. JJ quote was great and I will never forget. “They are winning the game and the fights too.” Plus it holds a recored and responsible for a NHL rule change.

yeah, game 5 was great too. I remember seeing that we were losing 4-3 or maybe it was tied at 4…and then Harts scored to give us the lead (I think it was hartnell). Yeah, that was an exciting game.

What about Game 82 this season? If the flyers go on to win this thing, that game will go down in the history books. I mean it’s already going to be remembered for a long time but Claude Giroux and Boucher (he already is to an extent thanks to the 2000 run and save) become folk heroes in Philly if they can do this thing

my only problem with that game is that it may be remembered more around the nhl than any other game this run. the media will always point and say Flyers got in bc a shootout win in the last game of the season and then shootout haters will say that Flyers didn’t deserve this (of course they forget that if you go by any other way of doing the standings the flyers still make the playoffs in the east).

I vote Carcillo. Not to play the role of MarioD (Who seems to have dissapeared ever since the Flyers started winning) but JVR really looked lost out there his last couple of games. Atleast Carcillo brings a physical presence, even if it does border insanity at times

My only problem with carcillo is he was a waste of a player on wednesday seeing how he was benched for the 3rd and OT

by historywillbemade on Jun 4, 2010 11:54 AM EDT up reply actions

The real lineup change that needs to be made is Carter needs to be taken off the top line. Put Giroux or Carcillo up there and let Carter center a line with Asham and Giroux/Carcillo

I wouldn’t be against the idea of moving Carter to the third line, if JVR plays on that line instead of Carcillo. This is far from a knock on Carcillo, but I just think JVR would be better suited to playing with someone like Carter.

by CTFlyer on Jun 4, 2010 12:08 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree with this. Put “what’s his name” on the first line and let Carter center JVR and Asham.

by HockeyOutsiders on Jun 4, 2010 12:13 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t know if I agree with having Carter and JVR on the same line. They both love to shoot the puck as much as humanly possible, so either JVR will take shots away from Carter or vice versa. I do want Carter centering the third line, but I would prefer it with Giroux and Asham/Carcillo.

It is not about penalties with Carcillo it is about the turnovers. Too many times he turned the puck over on the breakout in our on zone and too many times he didn’t get it deep turning it over that the opposition blueline going back the other way. As long as Toews and Kane are doing anything I am with Carter up there with Gagne and Richie they are canceling out the best Chicago line which is huge.

by chrislanci on Jun 4, 2010 12:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Penalties are a concern for me, especially considering Carbomb will get things called on him that almost anyone else wouldn’t (e.g., the boarding call). I wouldn’t not play him because of that, but because of the turnovers and sloppy play in general, like you said.

If we want to even talk about Carter centering the third line, the last thing you want is a player playing loose with the puck and creating turnovers when Carter’s clearly not healthy enough to chase down opponents on breakaways. Strangely/surprisingly, I trust JVR more here than I do Carcillo.

by CTFlyer on Jun 4, 2010 12:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I do too in the turnover department not in the defensive zone coverage department but with the last change we can protect JVR at home, he also has a tendency to play will have sitting a game and did score arguably the biggest goal of the playoffs in that Boston Game 7.

that guy isn’t getting re-elected. We don’t need pens fans. I loathe the pens with all of my being and I’m pretty sure the feeling is mutual. I want the Flyers to win the cup not just for Philly and the burbs but so that we can shove it in the face of the nhl and pens fans

I was just saying that if it had been, which I know it wasn’t, I wouldn’t like it as much. At least not right now.

Shit, I have an official ban on deep dish and hot dogs in my house right now.

Worst thing is I have a personal calendar that I make up every year, and June has our photos from last June’s vacation, which was to—you guessed it—Chicago! I’m looking at those photos now, and trying not to growl.

Deep dish is overrated anyway. As long as we don’t play against an Italian team and I don’t have to boycott Neapolitan-style pizza (thin crust) then I’m good.

Speaking of pizza, one of my all-time favorite YouTube videos has to be the one Red Sox fan throwing pizza at another and having the commentators discuss it on instant replay.

Here comes the pizza!

I think we might see a completely different blackhawk team tonight, right from their work on the ice, to coach Q not trying to outthink himself.

WIP REPORTING JVR WILL PLAY.

They did not confirm if Carcillo would be out they alluded to some type of injury. Who did not skate today???

Hope it’s not Carter. He didn’t look too good last game.

I don’t buy that crap from the Hawks fans saying that the Hawks have been playing down to the Flyers. This Flyers team is just as good as the Hawks, if not better.

by historywillbemade on Jun 4, 2010 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions

The Flyers didn’t choke are won’t like all the other teams they played. Remember the retarded Erat play, Chicago should have got bounced round 1.

by chrislanci on Jun 4, 2010 1:15 PM EDT up reply actions

certainly...

the hawks got a lucky break in game six, but you just can’t say the Hawks would have gotten bounced in round 1 if they go down 3 games to 2.

by aeroplane on Jun 4, 2010 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions

You can’t say that CHI would have won out for sure either. That loss was so deflating to the Predators.

by chrislanci on Jun 4, 2010 1:46 PM EDT up reply actions

i didn't say otherwise

as much as Boston’s game 3 win against you guys might have been “deflating”, someone forgot to turn out your lights.

Every fanbase has those bitter fans that don’t really understand the game or what they are seeing—they also don’t understand how matchups work. They aren’t playing down to the Flyers; the Flyers are playing on their level. Smart fans would realize that and appreciate it.

must be those dumb Blackhawk fans who felt like the Hawks should have been handed the Cup before the series began.

Did anyone...

check out the comments on Puck Daddy under the Pronger videos? They’re pretty funny. They make me love him more and more.

They’re just jealous. If he was on their team, he’d be a hero.

In Latvia, they're rooting for Bartulis' team, the Filadelfijas Flaieri!

I heart Pronger and the hate he gets around the league. I think he has Toews scared to be honest. Captain serious has been Captain invisible in this series

by historywillbemade on Jun 4, 2010 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions

that's whats great...

a lot of them start off saying he’s a dbag, he’s dirty, i hate him. Then the last thing they all say is… “man i wish he was on my team.”

by joe_digiacomo on Jun 4, 2010 2:47 PM EDT up reply actions

This response to that thread had me laughing out loud!:

“I’m waiting for the headline: Pronger steals the cup off the ice from the Blackhawks, throws it in trash.”

Matt Stairs is in town and per Leslie Gudel on SportsNite, he says he hopes the Phillies-Pads game is over quickly, so he can get over to the Wach for the 3rd period or OT and catch the rest of the hockey game. I found that humorous.
