Chicago Blackhawks at Philadelphia Flyers, Jun 4, 2010 8:00 PM EDT
Tonight's goaltenders:
After the jump, expected lineups, questions to answer and our in-game discussion.
Flyers Line Combinations
Gagne – Richards – Carter
Hartnell – Briere – Leino
JVR / Carcillo – Giroux – Asham
Laperriere – Betts – Powe
Pronger - Carle
Timonen - Coburn
Krajicek - Bartulis
Chicago Line Combinations
Byfuglien - Toews - Kane
Brouwer - Sharp - Hossa
Kopecky / Ladd - Bolland - Versteeg
Eager - Madden - Burish
Keith - Seabrook
Hjalmarsson - Campbell
Sopel - Hendry
Questions to Answer
- First line. Yes? No?
- If JVR returns, can he be effective? If Carcillo stays, can he be effective?
- Can the Flyers continue to control play for the majority of the game?
- Does the third pairing see any ice time?
- Will the Blackhawks be able to find an answer for the Leino - Briere - Hartnell line?
- Dustin Byfuglien looked frustrated on Wednesday. Same story?
Versus, WIP. It's game 103. You know the deal by now. Join us here for the conversation if you're not down here at the Wach, and LET'S GO FLYERS!

carter playin wing
i don’t know if thats a good idea.
Also, i’m hoping JVR is in. I’m a huge Carcillo fan but we need production.
Also, I take back everything I said about Hartnell, I’m hoping for anther big game from him
If you’re going to the game, I wana be able to hear you all the way here in DC. Let my cap fan neighbors hear what a stanley cup playoff game sounds like.
LET’S GO FLYERS
he's been on the wing all series...
not saying I disagree with you. But, there is no where else for him to go Richie obviously isn’t moving. Can’t touch Briere line and Giroux is on a tear as well. But I can’t see Carcillo staying in the lineup. This team is too fast and skilled, not the right match up for him to be in the lineup.

i know that hes been on the wing, but i he just seemed… not like carter
i really don’t have an answer for the problem, but we need to get him in the circle if we want to see him produce
i agree that briere line and giroux has been unreal, i don’t know… i just hate seeing jeff on the wing
I agree..
He’s been better in the faceoff circle than Richie in the series. Granted it’s a small sample size, but I’ve noticed when Richie is kicked from the faceoff Carter has been doing a good job stepping in and winning them. I think part of it is just still feeling comfortable out there.

Thoughts on line changes
I’ve said before, I’d love to see Carter on Giroux’s wing. He’s right handed but putting him on the LW would be doable as he so often comes down that side to shoot. Asham has been playing well this series so put him on the other side.
Gags-Mike-Carbomb
Harts-Briere-Leino
Carter-Giroux-Asham
Powe-Betts-Lappy.
In the last game when Carcillo was on Mikes line, Q kept Seabrook and Keith away from them. I can only see that as a win if that line isn’t playing against the Hawks best defense, especially to awake Richie from his slumber.
Probably won’t actually happy but its nice to dream

I was kind of wondering how he felt about the team making the finals so I figured I would post this.
What a dick bag, and the organization was talking about bringing him back for another position. Fuck him.

I can tell ya I was’nt this stressed during the Detroit series but then again I did’nt think the Flyers had a chance then. I believe no matter what the out come that the Flyers and Hawks are alot closer in talent than the media and fair weathers want to admit. I believe they can do this and thats why I’m nervous cause it might be awhile before we as fans get this again.
"All hail the Flyers" Jim Jackson.
you’re right it could be awhile no 2nd rounder this year or next and no 1st this year. Plus if we win no 3rd rounder this year for Pronger. But I’d gladly not have a pick until the 4th round for a CUP

It’s weird, it’s like Coburn lost a lot of his mojo 2 years ago against Montreal with the puck to the face, and then we play them again in the playoffs this year and he got a lot of it back.

In Coburn’s defense, he hit Hartnell with the clear, and the puck went straight into the slot.

I took Stat 200. That was fun but the really fun classes were Econometrics 390 and 490. Those were like engineering hard and my Prof was surprised to see me since most Econ, B.S. majors were men and I was a black female. Seems like many women at PSU never majored in Econ B.S.
I led the curve in the class, btw.

The Flyers seem to not just be playing better, they seem to be playing better in a way specifically designed to beat Niemi.

I agree. But I think some of that credit needs to go to how the Flyers are playing. Notice that two of those goals came from players either lateral to him or behind him?
Very true
it doesn’t help him either that there have been a few brain farts from his D.

Back in the US as of 7 AM today
And what a first period to come back to.

Feels so weird to be back on US time since I was 7 hours ahead, so my body thinks it’s 4 AM now.
One bad thing about the trip was missing the end of the ECF and the first three SCF games.

Something to ponder during intermission
True or false: One of the big reasons we’re here right now is because Matt Carle and Braydon Coburn started playing like Top Pair defensemen.

LUCKY!!!
You guys are so lucky you drew a choking loser Chicago team in the Finals. They are always good for one thing, getting your hopes up and breaking your heart!!
Hawks 50 years without a cup (longest streak in NHL)
Cubs 102 years without a WS (longest streak in professional sports)
Bears 1 title in the last 47 years
Bulls have done nothing of significance without Michael Jordan on the team.
Congrats on the Cup. I hope you guys finish off the Hawks in Philly so you can celebrate with the fans.
You realize the Hawks are up 2 games to 1, right?
Eagles 1 title in 50 years
Sixers are by far worse than the Bulls
The Cubs are cancelled by the White Sox, which are equal to the Phillies
And the Flyers haven’t won a Cup in 35 years.
This isn’t a pissing contest, mainly because it’s so extremely close and no one can take the “longest suffering” label.

The Cubs
The Cubs do not get canceled by the fucking White sox. As a Cubs fan the White Sox are my 2nd most hated team so their title actually hurt as much as a championship would feel good.
But if you want to include the White Sox, 1 title in the last 93 years
Well, yeah. I meant in terms of sports droughts.
I didn’t mean to offend Cubs fans – I know how much they hate each other. I was speaking purely from a “City baseball championships in the last 30 years”. We’re tied at 1.
But that’s not the point. You claim to be long suffering despite the Bulls dynasty, a WS championship in your city in the past 5 years, a hockey team that’s waited slightly longer than ours, and a football team that’s exactly as piss poor as ours.
You aren’t going to win many pissing matches between cities when your record is 1(Hawks)-1(Bulls)-2(White Sox and Eagles).
