I was waiting for a more appropriate post to ask this question and this feels like a good one…

We all know how superstitious hockey players and their fans can be… I’m no different. I’ve got a playoff beard going right now but unfortunately, I start work at my summer coop (Required by my college paid internship basically for those who don’t know) on monday and am expected to be well… groomed.

My question… shave today before the game and treat it as a mini-series… or wait till tonight and shave afterward…

by jewbilee on Jun 6, 2010 11:43 AM EDT reply actions

Shave before the game. I shaved before Game 7 against Boston and I haven’t looked back.

I shaved after Game 3 with Boston to change it up (being down 0-3 and all). Needless to say, my current beard is 10-4.

Don’t you mean 10-3?

cant just trim it back since I saw them last before the playoffs clean shaven so it’s not like they don’t know I have a beard unfortunately…

Just playing it safe… most companies have the mindset that since I’m a college kid, there’s not need for a full beard

by jewbilee on Jun 6, 2010 1:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Why do college kids need beards less than non-college people?

Shave whenever you feel comfortable. Either the Flyers will play well and win or play poorly and lose. The hairs on your face will not help them either way…

I've come up

with a rule that you can shave between series. A little shaving before 3 gamer seems safe.

by Flyersman on Jun 6, 2010 11:44 AM EDT reply actions

Not this year, but in previous years when I was in high school with strict grooming policies I would follow this rule.

I’m such a superstitious fan that I don’t even vote in polls like this… I’m too scared I might jinx the Flyers. But I hope that the majority of people who voted, are right.

I picked the Flyers in 6, but...

…it could just as easily be the Blackhawks in 7. I like the Flyers to win game 5 for a couple of reasons.

First, the Blackhawks are a young team that has consistently been told how great they are in general and how much better they are than the Flyers in particular. As a general rule I think that spells doom for a lot of young teams. It’s one of the main reasons there are so many upsets in college basketball & football; young players have a tendency to believe their own press. Whether that’s true of the Blackhawks, we’ll see…

Secondly, the Blackhawks have had a more trouble at home than on the road. Given point #1, they might be there to be taken tonight if the Flyers can jump out to a 2 goal lead (though no lead is safe against them). You hafta believe that the Flyers are going to take one of these games on the road with the way they’ve been playing, and I like their chances in game 5 a helluva lot more than in game 7.

Third, if the Flyers were so fortunate as to win tonight, it would mean that the Flyers are really on top of their game, and I don’t think the ’Hawks would be able to deny them in game 6.

That being said, if the ‘Hawks rebound tonight I think it’s probably enough to carry them through to the end. Not that the Flyers are out of it if they lose. It’s just that it becomes very unlikely.

Honestly, I’m just leaning towards the Flyers now because this damned series has been too epic to predict.

Flip a coin

I don’t have a real strong conviction one way or another who wins. There’s very little that separates these two teams, either is just as capable of winning a road game as the other, and either is just as capable of pulling off a run of two games or more.

I guess Flyers in 7, for the hell of it.

Flyers in 6. I think this team could beat the Nazis, Zombies and Aliens if we were ever threatened by them. Seriously, Barack wouldn’t be calling for the army, he’d be calling for the Orange and Black to defeat the forces of evil.

Game 5 is the Key

If the flyers win this game tonight, can you even imagine what Game 6 would be like??? The Cup in the building only one win away… that would be an extremely tough spot for the Hawks and I do not think our boys would be denied.

200% focus needs to be on making that scenario a reality with a victory tonight.

Flyers in 7

We’ve only beaten one team four straight this postseason, and that was making history. Hard to see us winning 5 AND 6. We obviously need to win one of them, so we can win 7 to clinch.

In a perfect Chicago hatin world

The Blackhawks lose in OT in game 7 at home so all 22,000 can stare slack jawed as the Flyers hoist the cup on Chicago ice.

But I smell an epic Chicago implosion with the Flyers taking game 5 today in Chicago and then clinching on home ice. Unfortunately this will allow Chicago fans to just click off their big screens and hurl them out the winder. No in person experience of coming yet again, that close.

Cubbie fan you’re about to get some company.
