Stanley Cup Final, Game 5 Discussion Thread: Philadelphia Flyers at Chicago Blackhawks
Philadelphia Flyers at Chicago Blackhawks, Jun 6, 2010 8:00 PM EDT
Tonight's goaltenders:
After the jump, some notes, lineups, questions to answer and our in-game discussion.
Just a few pre-game notes:
- Tonight's officials are Bill McCreary and Dan O'Halloran.
- The Flyers are 9-0 in Games 4-7 in these playoffs.
- The Flyers have scored a power play goal in every game of the series.
- Chris Pronger needs one point to tie a Flyers playoff record for points by a defenseman.
- Danny Briere needs three points to tie Brian Propp's record for points in a postseason.
- The Chicago Blackhawks have a Ville Leino voodoo doll in their locker room, but his beard makes him immune to it.
Flyers Line Combinations
Gagne – Richards – Carter
Hartnell – Briere – Leino
JVR / Carcillo – Giroux – Asham
Laperriere – Betts – Powe
Pronger - Carle
Timonen - Coburn
Krajicek - Bartulis
Haven't heard anything on the JVR front. Assuming that means the same lineup as Friday.
Chicago Line Combinations
who the hell knows at this point
Keith - Seabrook
Hjalmarsson - Campbell
Sopel - Hendry
Questions to Answer
- Can the Flyers jump out to a hot start, or do they try to weather the early storm a bit instead?
- Jeff Carter wound up with a goal the other night on an empty net try. He's had his looks, along with the rest of the Flyers top line, in the last few games. Can the top line get on the board some more?
- The Blackhawks took a lot of stupid penalties in Game 4, mostly due to frustration. Will the Flyers goad them into some more of them?
- Chris Pronger breaks that record tonight, right?
- Michael Leighton had his best game of the Final on Friday. He keeps it up tonight, no?
On NBC tonight. WIP for the local call. As always, join us here for the conversation, and LET'S GO FLYERS!

Love the analysis of Chicago’s lines. Almost reminds me of the line in the little Giants when the kids are standing around and the assistant coach is like “The RB is at tackle, the FB is at QB, and the QB I don’t even know where he is.” It was something like that, who knows wtf Chicago is doing lines wise right now.
They have enough talent though to click with any number of Combos, Quenville just needs to let them stay together for more than a shift or two. f he’s smart Hossa and Pronger don’t see the ice together tonight unless it is on special teams.

I’d like to make an early plea to avoid hubris. The gods will strike us down for it. It’s pretty clear from every piece of literature ever written.
That said…. GO FLYERS!
Hubris also does not apply to any descriptions of Chris Pronger’s awesomeness. The gods fear him as much as Dustin Byufglien does.
Get to watch this game live on a real HDTV screen! I’m going to buy cheesesteak sandwiches from Subway (best I can do) and then orange juice, orange chocolate, a range of orange lollies from the picknmix and hopefully find some sort of orange coloured potato chip

At college in IN years ago, they had “Philly Cheese Steak” list as the meal. Saw that it was steak-um type crap, went to the cashier and told her you need to take that Philly off there. Seriously.
It always amuses me when people add the “Philly” before Cheesesteak.
This station is non-operational.
Agreed. Especially since, even as someone who grew up a few minutes from Philly, I am not even sure how you define a “Philly” cheese steak. It’s basically everyone who isn’t in Philly trying to capitalize off what is considered to be the mecca of cheese steaks.

Hey hey hey
I made a point of cheering on three of our foreign players in their native languages above.
It’s true, kids can learn anything. I learned Italian as a kid because my mom’s parents spoke it. I learned Latin and Spanish in school(because its rather similar to Italian) and am working on trying to teach myself Russian, just for giggles.

I didn’t mean it anything along those lines… I’m just showing some respect. We do have the most difficult language to learn. Our verb conjugation is horrid in comparison to other languages.

This and homonyms… Even the uneducated youth of our country constantly screw up there/their/they’re… But that’s simply because they’re ignorant.

Agreed, English is ridiculous to learn but if a vast part of the rest of the world can learn English then why can’t we learn Spanish or Arabic?
It’s just all part of the American’s are better than everyone attitude that seems to be our M.O now.

One of the funniest things was when I was in Paris and I totally messed up my order at the bar. I tried speaking French (Cause I had a handy little book with about 30 words) and said pretty much the exact opposite (Your welcome instead of thank you, or thank you instead of please, or something stupid) of what I wanted to say.
The bartender totally made fun of me in English, and whenever I went back to get a drink he repeated my screw up. Then again, I love sass from servers, so I loved it.
