We had a pretty heated conversation about the previous game. We tried to find a reason for what was wrong, but we couldn’t really find one.
That’s a fucking terrifying quote from Kimmo.
They know why they lost, but they sure as hell aren’t going to tell the media that they played scared.
"Tortorella’s got it all wrong ... Gaborik shouldn’t be messing with our skilled player." -Peter Luukko
I’d be happy with “we played arrogant and flat-footed,” which Richie said in as many words right after the game. Or “Q made some adjustments and it took us longer than we wanted to catch up.” They didn’t look like they were playing scared to me.
Add to that the fact that EuroFlyers is notorious for prying excellent, truthful quotables from Kimmo, Leino, et al? Seriously: yikes.
I don’t know if it is really all that scary, he said “heated” so someone somewhere must have gotten an earful.

Disagree.
Look at the whole thing:
“We had a pretty heated conversation about the previous game. We tried to find a reason for what was wrong, but we couldn’t really find one. Everyone felt good before the game, but it didn’t translate onto the ice. We did get over the loss pretty quickly. We went through the game video, so we’ll know what to do better. We lost that game and we can’t help it. We learn from it and try to win the next one.”
What’s so scary about that? To me he’s saying something like this:
“We had an intense conversation about Game 5, along the lines of ‘What the hell was that?’ We didn’t have any answers for why we played that way. We felt confident and comfortable going into the game, but we didn’t play that way for some reason. At any rate, we realize that what’s done is done. We looked at the video and analyzed our mistakes, so we know where we have to improve for Game 6. We wasted an opportunity in Game 5, but it’s too late to worry about that now. We’ve learned our lesson and will focus on winning the next game.”
Not scary when you look at it that way.

Very well done mike. That’s exactly how I take it to read. Nothing to worry about here.

You know what’s impossible? Analyzing hockey-player speak.
You’re right, I’ll step off that ledge. I guess I was just hoping for “There was a matchup problem, and we’ll be more prepared.”
Oddly enough, I think I would be MORE scared if he said “There was a matchup problem.” I wouldn’t worry about Game 6, because the Flyers will get the matchups they want – but not in Game 7.
I’m sure the matchups were one of the things they talked about in the “Hey, Wha’ Happen?” discussion.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
Also, it is worth noting that last night on DNL, Morganti (I think it was Al) and others were saying the Flyers were a little too overconfident in Chicago according to some quotes they got. That game the other night was the jolt they needed; whether or not they are up to the task is what they have to show tonight. I have honestly no clue how this game will go—normally, I have a feeling, but I’m getting nothing here.
I will say this: IF the Flyers find a way to get this to a Game 7, they will win the cup.
"Tortorella’s got it all wrong ... Gaborik shouldn’t be messing with our skilled player." -Peter Luukko
In response to the never-ending talk about how the Hawks are the more talented team, and that’s why they supposedly will win the Cup tonight, I think it’s time to bring out this gem from Bobby Clarke:
“Maybe the capacity to work hard is a talent, too.”
Go, Flyers!!!
In Latvia, they're rooting for Bartulis' team, the Filadelfijas Flaieri!
That “5 reasons the Blackhawks will win” story reads more like “5 hashed-out stories the media refuses to let die.”
It’s just like everything else the media writes…recycled garbage. Lazy.

I didn’t care for it either though it may have just been the homer in me.

And as one of the comments read, the title should have been “5 Reasons the Flyers will lose”. Everything he details is subjective and are reasons why the Flyers would lose on their own merit, not because Chicago is better.
"Chris Pronger sneaked in the back door...banged it home."

Also, he says “byfuglien has arrived” then goes on to say "even though his two goals were scored while 1 – Pronger was in the box, and 2- Empty net, his two assists show he has turned the switch to "on"" Hey pal, they were secondary assists, which are awarded for little more than touching the puck before a play even develops. I hope all this overconfidence of the media and their fans overflows into the chicago locker room tonight and they come out as flat as we did in the first last game.
Why do people like Puck Daddy so much? I just don’t see the appeal. I’ve never really liked anything that’s come from that site.

It’s easy to find. If you use Yahoo and like hockey, you’ll come across it without even trying.
It’s not that people like it as much as it’s easily accessible. I think that’s it.

I’m not going to lie: I didn’t even read it. I figured it’d be crap, but thought I’d include it in case anybody wished to subject themselves to it.

I read it and it was a mistake. It just infuriated me and will make the 7 hours between now and when the puck drops that much longer. Let Chicago fans (not including the very reasonable bunch we’ve been chatting with around here this week) and media pat themselves on the back for a job well done that isn’t even done yet. If we can focus and play at our best for the whole 60 minutes tonight, we’re capable of sending this thing to 7. It won’t be easy, but we can do it.
LET’S GO FLYERS!!!!!
I watched Mike & Mike in the mornings today and they had Wayne Gretzky on and he said that the Flyers must have the Ghost of Bobby Clarke with them. Does he think Bobby Clarke is dead?
Who is Bobby Clarke? (sarcasm, sarcasm, sarcasm)

Confidence without effort does not lead to victory. Advantage tonight I feel is with the flyers. They have the benefit of having played in games where they can be eliminated and been successful in those games. They also have the crowd tonight.
With a good solid effort and a knowledge of what needs to be done tonight, the Cup will be sent back to Chicago, but in its case.

This is going to be the most hard to watch game all season long, well unless Flyers pull it out and we have a game 7 for the cup and in that case I will likely have a heart attack during the game. It’s been a nice ride so far, lets stretch it out one more game. Flyers better have some energy tonight and get off to a quick start and keep putting up goals.

Chicago is really tempting the hockey gods
Plans for the parade on Friday!
Well
It is a logistical nightmare to plan those things in a big city, but here’s hoping they never need to use the route.

I don’t think the Phillies and the city announced any such parade plans before they clinched in 08, and they were up 3-1 over the Rays.

I was just about to post this
The press kept asking Nutter about a parade and he said he had nothing to say about it.
He did say IF the Phillies won the world series, then they would have to plan for it.
We know all they have to plan for these things in advance, but it’s bad karma to announce it in the press.
But they had in previous years—1993, if I recall—and then never used them. They did mention the “p” word, but Philly is much more superstitious than just about every other city out there. Although it surprises me that Chicago isn’t moreso, what with the Curse of the Billy Goat and black cat and whathaveyou.
Behind closed doors, however, you know they had to have talks about the possibility. To announce it now, though, is probably just in poor taste.
I’m really starting to not care much for the Chicago sports scene, and I know it’s a byproduct of their media and all this sideshow nonsense and the situation, but after having been there—I actually didn’t find their fans to be all that accomodating. AAMOF, NY fans are warmer. I went there expecting much more because of the rep and was disappointed. I suppose this is similar in what we experience as Philly fans, where visitors come in expecting the worst and are pleasantly surprised. It’s all nonsense.

I'm amazed how cocky they are
I’ve said this over the past week.
Every time Chicago fans were this cocky about a game, the Chicago team LOST. I lived in Chicago when the Eagles played the Bears in the playoffs, in January 2002. To read, watch or listen to the Chicago media the week before the game, the Eagles had no chance. The fans were even worse. I was hearing the Bears blowing out the Eagles. We know how the game turned out.
Chicago fans are the opposite with the baseball teams. They don’t expect them to win (White Sox fans do now, 2005 changed that) and if something bad happens (Bartman), they expect the worst. After they lost Game 5 of the 2003 NLCS, it was “we’ll clinch it at Wrigley with Prior in Game 6 and Wood in Game 7”. We know how that turned out.
It’s in bad taste to announce the parade plans before you have won the series.
Its just funny how all the stories are bragging when Chicago has been expected to win for 3 years now….
Expected to win for three years?
Last year they were the #4 seed and made the conference finals.
The year before that, they were the, uh, #10 seed.
The year before that, they were the, uh, #13 seed.
I’m not judging the fans by the press. I had a personal experience and reported on it. My overall point was that Chicago fans are upheld as a paragon and I feel they fell short, similar to our fans are shown to be the dregs, and they are nothing like that.
Media ruins everything. We should be allowed to interpret on our own without all these outside influences.

I think the only thing they did was put up Temporary Police Regulation signs to remove parked cars from Broad Street.
They did that the day before Game 5 of the Montreal Series this year.
This station is non-operational.
As much as I want the Flyers to win the cup this has been a great season and a historic playoff run.
actually, i was going to say something along the same lines.
Win or lose tonight or Friday, this has become one of my favorite Flyer’s teams in a long time and they’ve exceeded my expectations for this year by a landslide.
if you’d have told me in January, that I’d be down to the last 2 games of the season today and I’d still have a legitimate rooting interest in the eastern conference team, I’d have laughed in your face.
Yes, I’d love to purchase a Flyers SC champion t-shirt next week, but I’m pretty proud of the run they made regardless of the outcome.

Rex Ryan: “When’s the last time these fuckers won the Cup?”
Richards: “1961, sir.”
Ryan: “1961! 1961! They’ve won JACK SHIT since 1961! Who have they beaten? What have they proven? And yet somehow, they’re miles better than YOU? Men, you are not underdogs. There are no underdogs in the world. There is only the weak. You are the fucking CHAMPIONS. If no one sees you coming, well then that’s their fault for being too fucking stupid to notice.”
Some good motivation for the Flyers today, paraphrased from a hilarious article on Kissing Suzy Kolber where “Rex Ryan” gives a pep-talk to the US Soccer Team.
Random, I know, but I was just reading that and thought that paragraph applied here, too. :-p
