Fifty years from now, what the Flyers did this post-season will be still be marveled at. That can never be, and never will be, taken away from us. The 2010 Chicago Blackhawks will be on a lengthy list of Stanley Cup Champions. But for as long as professional sports are a big part of American culture and society, the 2010 Philadelphia Flyers will never be forgotten, and will eternally be remembered for what they have done over the last several weeks. For as long as I live, I will never forget what I have seen over the past two months.

+1 Agree totally.
Furthermore, while there will be plenty of time to discuss this over the summer, the nucleus of this team is signed for next year.
15 out of tonight’s starting 20, to be exact.

Everything we’ve had since April 11th was a bonus, right? I wasn’t mad at the 2004 Flyers because they went down fighting, and I won’t be mad at these either; because they had more fight in them then I ever would have believed
The amount of heart on this team makes me feel even worse for them. I know what it feels like to just not have enough. This team is by far my favorite of my life time. There is absolutely nothing to be mad at here. They played their hearts out and that’s all I can ask of them.

Now that that is out of the way with. I gotta say I feel really bad. I was a hardcore leighton supporter. Three soft goals in the final game I just can’t forgive, especially that game winner.
Better would be someone taking a chainsaw to them. Silence would come second best.

Sigh
What a heartbreaker. Congrats to Chicago.
P.S. I don’t like this celebrating on our ice. In other sports, visiting teams celebrate in their locker room. This is just not right.
That's hockey though
I love the traditions, even when we’re on the short end of it. You don’t have to watch it after all.
It's kind of awkward
The silence and the guys celebrating. No music, no ticker tape. Just lifting the cup and awkward woos.
"Tortorella’s got it all wrong ... Gaborik shouldn’t be messing with our skilled player." -Peter Luukko
Heartbreaking but somehow I don't feel that bad
We don’t have to say that they didn’t leave it all out on the ice because they did.
Congrats to Chicago, and to their long suffering fans, a 50 year drought is pretty brutal, even if their shit ownership was directly responsible for a good decade of that if not more. Let their bandwagoners enjoy their parade and day in the sun. It was a tremendous series of nail biting hockey.
Thanks to Travis and Geoff, Ben and the other regulars who did and awesome job with the site this year, and kept me in the thick of everything going on with the team, in what was an unbelievably exciting couple of months.
From cab thrashing to hoisting the cup. What a crazy ride that must be.

I’ve been a proud Flyers fan my whole life and this playoff run has only deepened my love for this team. But this one hurts a lot. No point in lying. I’m gonna go have myself a good cry and drink. And hate the Chicago Blackhawks for the rest of my life. :)
To get this far in a season where many had written the Flyers off is a feat to remember. And we’ll always that the Bruins history making series. No on can take those away from us. To Richie, Carter, Gags, Lappy, Pronger, Leino and the rest of my beloved Flyers, thank you for a season and team that I will never forget. You’ll get your Cup someday. And I’ll be there watching when you do!
Stop picking up on Leighton. We ALL know that was bad goal he let in, we all know that it cost us the game and eventually the Cup. But could you PLEASE stop trash talking him? We had our chances… not just in this game but throughout the series. So STOP picking up on players. They did this as a team. And I have to say that I love this team. I LOVE this team. Probably even more than I loved the ’04 Lightning. Which (if you knew me better you would know) is saying a LOT.

Congratulations to the Blackhawks. Even if we won this game, there’s no way we would have beat them on the road in Game 7. They were truly the superior team and deserved to win.
Thank you to the Flyers for making the last two months a truly great ride. You truly exceeded all expectations and, to some extent, have me excited for the future.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
See, now I thought they might win a Game 7—I just didn’t think they’d win tonight to get that far. Ah, well—no one can say they didn’t give everything they had; they just didn’t have enough in the end.
"Tortorella’s got it all wrong ... Gaborik shouldn’t be messing with our skilled player." -Peter Luukko
A game 7 would have been rough, but it could have been done. Tonight, until Hartnell tied it up in the third, I didn’t think they had it in them either. They came so close to forcing that game 7 so many times, and then the goal to end it. Ugh, feel so sick right now. The only analogy that comes to mind is Buckner.
Not worth bothering over this, since it didn’t happen/isn’t happening, but I don’t think they would have won game 7. Not enough left in them.
And I guess if it went to 7. We wouldn’t have been able to hear that loud LETS GO FLYERS chant that resonated through the Wach after we lost.

Which we would’ve. But, they instituted that stupid lottery. Why? Because the Penguins tanked a season to get Mario Lemieux.

This team is easily my favorite Flyers team of all time (born in 84, I can only go back to 95-96 for my teams), out ranking the 2003-2004 team.
On the Flyers captain list, its now:
Clarkie
Poulin
Richie
Preems.
"Want a donut go to dunkin donuts, want a linebacker go to Penn State."
- Cris Carter, NFL Draft, 4/25/09

Preems should be WAY higher. AT least above Richards.
"In fact, it is probably safe to say, the statement "I am a hockey fan" is the same as "I hate gary bettman."- bfrank27
No.
Clarkie won two Stanley Cups.
Poulin took two teams in the 1980s to the Stanley Cup Finals, losing to Edmonton twice, taking Edmonton to 7 games in 1987.
Richie took this team to Stanley Cup Finals.
Preems made it to the ECF.
Richie and Preems are interchangeable to me but Richie has more upside. The man is a winner at every level and I seriously doubt that this is his last SCF as the Flyers Captain.

I’d argue for Preems over Richie based soley on his 2004 playoff performance. I mean the guy put his team on his back and carried them as far as he physically could. His play that year is as inspiring as anything I’ve seen in my Flyers experience.

Well, at least the stress of the playoffs (however enjoyable it can be) is over. Bring on the summer!
Double-hurt within the past calendar year. Losing to the Yanks was bad enough. But this, to me, is a million times worse. There was at least a near-guarantee that the Phils had another shot or two with their core… with the Flyers it’s not so certain. And since they’re my favorite team, it ESPECIALLY hurts.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
Somehow… I still believe in your guys.
Congrats again on an awesome fight. It was fun chatting with y’all here on BSH!
It’s been great to have you around. If there’s been one big positive from this Cup run, it’s that we (and I’m speaking for the board now, I apologize) have come across some very cool people from the other SBN sites. It’s been fun to house you all, and I hope you come back to visit from time to time. (And if I ever stop being lazy, I might poke my nose around your parts of the blogosphere)

I was reading FTF all through the playoffs but I never spoke up… Mr Plank got on my good side right away this post season by writing about how well Boosh was doing back in the first round, and BSH definitely noticed. Now I’ll have to start actually commenting over there once in a while

This loss
I’m slowly gathering my thoughts. I was ecstatic during the intermission, pacing around the room, pumping my fists. When OT started and we got those chances, I thought it was in the bag. Then it happened.
One thing is true: I love this team. And I am convinced, absolutely 100% convinced, that there won’t be a 13 year break before the next cup finals appearance. Ville Leino, Claude Giroux, James van Riemsdyk: they are just beginning their rise. Mike Richards, he’s gonna want another shot. Chris Pronger, he’s still got a ton of life in him. Kimmo Timonen, that guy put out everything he’s got, you can bet he’ll do it again for the rest of his career. Danny Briere, no-one should ever want to kick you out again.
BSH, you were a huge part of this journey for me. So thanks Travis, Geoff, Ben, and all the commenters, even the guys who would be a bit negative throughout the season. We’re all Flyers fans. We suffer together.
But when we win…the win will be so much more sweeter.

You've made a fan for life - no questions asked.
I remember watching an ironic shootout to send one of two teams to the playoffs, and going out of my skull, just like I would at my Oswego college games, when The Comeback was complete. This has been a very special ride for me, and thanks to all of you regulars on BSH. This has been a truly amazing experience, and I’ll try my best to be around again next season too. Congrats for all of your accomplishments, and getting this far was no picnic.
Also a shout out to my fellow Niner fans for being here pulling for the Flyers too – theres football soon enough, but this Philadelphia hockey is really going to be missed.

For the longest time, I’ve been a hardcore Eagles and Phillies fan with just cheering for the Flyers and Sixers on the side, not really watching the games but hoping they’ve done well.
But since I’ve watched the Olympics and nearly every Flyers game this playoffs, I’ve definitely become hooked. They might’ve lost, but I want to watch this team more, I want to watch Flyers games more and become a more active and hardcore fan.
Tomorrow, I’m buying NHL 10. In time, I will own a Chris Pronger jersey. Call me a bandwagoneer if you want, but I want to be a better fan :) Thank you Flyers for giving me reasons to be a better fan. I hope you guys get it next year :)

not to add on, but ditto
when I watched the final game v. the Rangers, I knew there was something special in this team. I watched in 2004 and 2009, but even when the Flyers were fighting hard, I couldn’t get behind them. But nothing got me more excited for than seeing Boucher, fists pumped, being mobbed by his teammates.
I’ll definitely be sure to stick around next year, and check out BSH during the offseason.
It’s been great being here.

I first discovered BSH earlier this year. This place has been a magnificent community of awesome Flyers fans with the best damn online Flyers content there is. It combines commentary, analysis, and reporting the way no MSM outlet could ever hope to try and replicate. Everyone here is completely awesome and I will most certainly be around here during the off-season. While I have been a hockey fan for a long time, reading this site and communicating with fellow Flyer fans like this have helped me understand hockey in a way that I never thought possible. Everyone here from the diehard Flyers fans to our Leafs fans joining us for the Flyers’ last 2 series, it has been a pleasure talking with you. This site is simply wonderful.

Thanks Flyers for an awesome season. Remember, there’s always next year. =)
I can read the future, while lesser men read comic books.
God this feels like a high school yearbook but ....
I was going to do this as a fanpost but since everyone else is doing it here I might as well too. I came to the site about three months ago looking for, honestly, a blog that I could design t-shirts for (I’m not even joking about this) little did I know that not only would I find that but I would also find a group of people that in less that 60 days I would come to know very well and feel connected to pretty deeply. I mean I stood in PJ’s with a couple of you, thinking that it would be the last time I would get to watch the Flyers this year, little did I know this would happen. Sure I believed it would, as I always have and always will, but it was improbable to say the least. I have learned so much from all of you hear, about hockey, about random crap, about the West Wing for sure. There’s nothing that makes Flyers hockey better than this site. I would be kicking, screaming, punching and breaking things right now if it weren’t for me being able to talk to all of you. For all of that I’d like to thank you all.
To Ben, Geoff, and Travis (listed alphabetically, no specific order) thank you guys most of all for generating all the content and keeping this blog an amazing place for people to interact with like (and not so like) minded individuals. Seriously this blog is the best thing that I’ve ever found on the internet. You are nothing but respectful and professional all the time, even when you’re nit-picking my designs ;) I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I found this site this season. It had to be fate. While I read regularly, I’ve been mostly a lurker around these parts. In part because, as much as I love hockey, that whole lockout thing still kept me from diving full into the NHL again. (It didn’t help that I was a student working with the Penn State ice hockey team during that time, and college hockey was so much more fun to watch.) But as this season progressed, I followed more and more. Didn’t mean I posted here more, but I was definitely watching the growth of this place.
Ok, there’s a point here, I swear. And that’s that you, sir, have been one of the most awesome additions to this site. This isn’t a knock on the other great members here (yup – I’m talking about YOU!), but you’ve definitely added an awesome spark and joy to this place. I still haven’t seen it, actually (it was turn the TV off or throw it out the window for me), but I’ll have nightmares about it, hah…
This. Whats worse is that this play will be shown forever. How many times has a Cup been won in overtime?

Not to mention that in baseball, most times you still have a chance to come back. In hockey, in OT, one bad shot gets it and it’s over. There’s no chance at the other end to tie it up again. That’s pressure.

I know this seems to be a dumb question (scroll up, new fan here), but what is this team’s biggest need now, like what will we address in the draft? Goalie
Well, our draft this year isnt really “key” because of no good picks. I say Goalie, but we trade for him. Sadly, I say one of Hartnell, Danny, or Carter are gone next year. Coburn and Carcillo are let go, same with Leighton. So basically, our bottom 3 D and our goalie are gonna be different next year. just predictions, though.
Pilgrim: Be gone pest, and give me the Bird
Yakko: We'd love to but the FOX censors wouldn't allow it
Danny and Hartnell
Have NTCs, and no way they want to leave the flyers. And after this postseason, no way the fans want to leave them.

Agree. Its going to be Carter, and I’m less and less worried about the fact

Carter is still a 40+ goal scorer
Pilgrim: Be gone pest, and give me the Bird
Yakko: We'd love to but the FOX censors wouldn't allow it
as good as Bernier can be
thats too much, but again, I wont be surprised
Pilgrim: Be gone pest, and give me the Bird
Yakko: We'd love to but the FOX censors wouldn't allow it
Wouldn’t want to trade an established guy for Bernier alone. We’d have to get more. Considering a) we know that if LA stick with Quick they have to get rid of him eventually, so their hand is sort of forced and b) this season has proven that a top-notch goalie isn’t necessary for success.
This post-season has upped the price of shutdown defensemen (eg. Volchenkov) but lowered the price of goalies imo
by PursuitOfLappyness on Jun 10, 2010 12:09 AM EDT up reply actions
This
Basically, the Flyers got to the Stanley Cup Final, and maybe could’ve won it, without much contribution from Jeff Carter.
However we could get a lot back. I’m sure Boston didn’t want to give up Phil Kessel, but now they’re getting Taylor Hall and who knows who they get next season.

Yeah, I hear ya, but somethings probably going to give, and that’s what I see too
by JerseyDriver on Jun 10, 2010 12:06 AM EDT up reply actions
The Flyers almost never draft goalies, especially not in the first round. I would say the offseason will be a FA goalie signing, a 5th defenseman and more forward depth.
New Zealand's 4th best Philadelphia Flyers fan
They’ve been drafting a ton lately, so much so that they didn’t even sign their 2008 Third Round Pick. He’s now a FA after taking his team to the Memorial Cup Finals. Oh, and they spell his name wrong on his official Flyers player page.
I’m pretty sure Eriksson is the guy they have the highest hopes for.

a bit of sadness mixed with anticipation
this postseason has me geared up for october…lets go get ’em flyers! Flyers champs of 2011
Your Flyers have multitudes of heart........
………………….and you should be proud of your team. Your team scored and made the playoffs when it counted most on the last day of the regular season. Your team fell behind 3-0 in the series & Game 7 vs. Boston and came back to win. You fell behind 2-0 against us (Chicago) and won the next 2 when everyone counted you out. You came back and sustained pressure on us, scoring with 4 minutes left. Your Flyers have tons of heart, and you should wear your black-and-orange P with pride. From a Blackhawks fan to all of you Flyers fans, I am extending my hand to you and hoping you shake it back. Your Flyers gave us all that we could handle.
Of course
I tried to post congrats over on the Second City Hockey blog, but there’s a 1 day moratorium, so I guess it’s not going to happen.
There’s no thrill in winning like the kind that comes when you have to fight tooth and nail for it. I’ve said this previously, but it’s the Stanley Cup. It’s not supposed to be easy.
The Hawks are an unbelievably talented team, showed a lot of grit and determination, and are deserving of the victory. If the Hawks weren’t so damned good, we wouldn’t be as proud of the Flyers as we are.
It was a good run
50 years from now this team will still be remembered. Maybe it’ll be 5 or 6 teams, but this is still a team that came back from being down 0-3 in the series and 0-3 in the game and won.
I can stand losing to the Blackhawks. They haven’t won in 39 years. They had a shitty, shitty owner that screwed their fans over and over again. If anything this win is a stab in his eye.
It sucks. It still hurts. But this team will be back.
Let's go Flyers!

They’ll be back alright, but what the hell are we supposed to watch for the next couple months, hah? Baseball and soccer do nothing for me. Come on October!

What a great run.
This is my first time posting, even though I’ve been reading since last June, and I figured what better time than now! This has been such an amazing run, watching the team play up and down, following the season with my girlfriend (also a regular reader of BSH), screaming when Boosh made that save against the Rangers, coming back 3-0, and finally seeing this team mature into a real Philly team, resilient and beloved. I’ve loved following the ups and downs on here, too: you guys have made me laugh, taught me more about hockey, and kept me updated on all things Flyers, which is especially hard since I’m in DC (we both love our “Bandwagon” shirts!) I can’t say I’m not sad right now, but there’s not an empty feeling like other championship losses. I’m proud of the team, the city, and our fans, and that’s something that will stay with me forever. I’ll be sure to post more throughout the off season and into 2010-2011, where I know our boys will be ready for another amazing run. Go Flyers!

haha, completely understood. When the team is losing, it gets pretty tough in here. I honestly told Ben and Travis a few times this year I didn’t even want to come onto the site. I always did, mind you, but it was frustrating. Winning makes all that go away :)

You know, I closed that thread because I’m not a big fan of the post-loss hate (from any team, not anyone here specifically). But dammit if I don’t need another good laugh tonight.

hahah…yeah, I just noticed that.
Also, I’m becoming more and more convinced that you guys hired* her to be our court jester, and just banned her to further the hilarity. (*And by hired, I mean that you don’t pay her anything at all.)

That too, but you know the little kids want their jerseys signed and stuff. You can normally get most of them to stop and sign stuff or say something like that during the season if you pick a good time, but the last day most of them act like they have all the time in the world

I assume the twitter will announce it. Might be tomorrow, more likely Friday, slim possibility of Saturday. I realize that’s cryptic but my fiance would know better and he’s already asleep

Would like to say that this is without a doubt the best Flyers community on the web. Better than the official forums, better than anything. I relocated to Texas years ago, and a big part of me misses Philly like crazy, and it’s nice to be able to keep a beat on everything from so far away.
To the absolutely brilliant staff at BSH – I raise my bottle of Hoegaarden to you, and I can’t wait for the next season.
To the 2009-2010 Flyers – as the Romans say: vade in pace.
everything has already been said that I would have
so in other news-
Who wants to go goalie shopping?
Thanks to a lot of you guys here, and some of the other random things via the intarwebs and the Tweeter, I can’t say that I’ve really been down after this lost. Sure, there was an immediate shock as I realized that Kane wasn’t just skating around like a moron. But it all sort of passed – it sucked, and then I moved on.
As I said in the other thread, before it got switched to the hate thread, this was fun. The run to make the playoffs, the crazy and historic ups and downs of the playoffs, and the never-say-die attitude that pushed a very talented Blackhawks team to their limits. It was all fun and exciting, and with the posts and stories and people who have joined in the conversation here (whether as Flyers fans, bandwagon-jumpers, or even from the opposing side), it’s just been a blast.
As I said before, this was fun. Let’s do it again next year, just with a better end result.

It's Beer 30
I held out, but gotta have one now. Just can’t calm down.

If I had Kaluha, I’d make a White Russian (since Geoff started the whole Lebowski set of posts above). Instead, I’ll settle for an Arnold Palmer w/Vodka.
"I did my walk of shame this morning and everyone was so much nicer," she said. "People were inviting me to parties at 9 a.m."

"I did my walk of shame this morning and everyone was so much nicer," she said. "People were inviting me to parties at 9 a.m."
I decided a River Horse Summer Blonde Ale. It’s one I have not yet tried. Not bad, but not nearly enough alcohol content.

Meh, it’s OK. My husband got a sampler box from this cool beer distributor (yes, out of state folks, our beer/liquor laws require us to purchase beer from distributors and wine/liquor from state stores, although if you just want a 6-pack, you can get that from Wegman’s or a bar) and it wasn’t expensive. I wouldn’t buy an entire case, however.
"Tortorella’s got it all wrong ... Gaborik shouldn’t be messing with our skilled player." -Peter Luukko
That’s one of the upsides to living in Milwaukee. I can buy beer/liquor basically anywhere, and there’s almost always something on sale. I’ve been here nearly a year now, and the novelty still hasn’t worn off.
"I did my walk of shame this morning and everyone was so much nicer," she said. "People were inviting me to parties at 9 a.m."
Yes, but you live in Milwaukee.
Just kidding. I’ve been there; it’s not bad.

Yes, but you live in Milwaukee.
Why do you think there is so much beer here? :)
It’s fun – decent amount to do with a small-town feel. There’s a lakefront and beer, and I really can’t ask for much more than that.
"I did my walk of shame this morning and everyone was so much nicer," she said. "People were inviting me to parties at 9 a.m."
Well, that sorta sucks
But I’m strangely not one bit disappointed, and I can’t really put the explanation into words.
Yeah, sucks we didn’t win, but as I guy I saw at Boston gm 6 said, with how the season went, all this is just gravy.

I know its just me, but,
I dont feel nearly as bad as I did in 2004. Maybe its the fact that I, realistically, hated this team after the midway point, but I actually feel kind of, nothing. Not low or high, jut, neutral.

LOL
I have gotten calls after every round to send in my deposit on my game plan for next season. Keep telling my account guy the same reason, lost my job, can’t afford them. I’ve had a game plan since 2005 and they keep trying to get me to get buy full season tickets.
I lost my job in March and none of my friends would step up to buy my playoff tickets. So I didn’t get them. My Flyers account guy said a lot of people didn’t get playoff tickets because of this.
I wonder how many people bought the full season ticket packages for finals tickets? Good luck selling some of those games.
by 726 Forever on Jun 10, 2010 12:41 AM EDT up reply actions
Sorry to hear, had they bought them, you all could have made out selling just a few games. And next year, you may be able to get rid of tickets easy the way the Flyers should perform.
by JerseyDriver on Jun 10, 2010 12:46 AM EDT up reply actions
Maybe
The game plan is 11 games and I usually went to most of those games. Problem is no one would buy the regular season. Everyone wants to buy the playoff ticket.
I know full season ticket holders who have problems selling a lot of their games. Tough to get face value for a November game against Atlanta.

Never commented before
But I’ve been reading this site for ages and following the comments religiously. I don’t have a TV so I basically follow the games by reading what you all have to say, and reading all the great content that Travis, Ben and Geoff put up all the time.
The past 2 months have been a blur, and my productivity at work has fallen through the floor, but I don’t regret a minute. Thanks Guys, and thanks to the team for giving us everything they had, up to the end. I wasn’t as pessimistic as some of you earlier (and I’m with Goeff in the Boucher fan club; keep him and find another starter, or give Backlund a try, but please don’t hang our hopes on Leighton…) and I’m glad that it wasn’t all in vain.
This was the most exciting playoffs I can remember (I was alive when they won the cups, but have no memories of it), and if they can bring back a few key free agents, I’ve got a lot of hope for next season.
Keep up the good work, guys. I’ll be hanging around all summer, just keeping up with what’s going on and smiling at the great discussions in the threads.
See you next year!

Assorted thoughts:
Great season, the Flyers finally lived up to their potential, and made it all of the way to the end. They weren’t necessarily the best team talent wise, but they found a way to make their weaknesses negligible and win through talent and sheer will.
I will always remember this season as such:
Richie became a real boy with the help of Pronger and co. We developed two stars and they will be a force next year. We validated a once thought overpaid player in Briere, Scott Hartnell dogged it in the season but proved that when he puts on his big boy pants he is a good player.
Unfortunately, the only negative I will take from this season is this. You have to pay the big bucks for the goaltender that you feel confident in. No, Marty Turco is not the answer, but Halak or Price might be. Michael Leighton did the best he could, but I never want to see him as a Flyers starting goaltender ever again. I am fine with him being a backup, but if he is the #1 to start next year, the Flyers completely waste this season and fail to learn from their mistakes

I tried, I just really hope they change the goalie issue. They have something very good going right now, and with a number 1 goalie next year we’ll be even better, so maybe we don’t have to play physical teams throughout the playoffs and be dead by the end of the Cup Series. This season is a positive, as long as we take what we have and go forward

Well, it’s been real, it’s been fun, it’s even been real fun. Going to go have a few stiff shots of vodka (probably) and then pass out. Thanks for chatting, great atmosphere here. Thanks to the Flyers for a great year, even though I was pissed and had to stop watching for a week or two cause I couldn’t take the Jekyll and Hyde all season. I will be checking here regularly for updates and to see who’s around. Good night, and Good hockey.
I just wanted to check in. I don’t have words yet. Running through the entire cycle of emotions.
Let’s Go Flyers.
To be fair, let’s point out:
-We love this team.
-Chicago fans are being pretty civil and non-destructive with the celebration
-There’s not much on that Blackhawks team to hate, either.
These points are how I’m diffusing myself.
The Philadelphia Flyers
I couldn’t ask for a better team to cheer for.
Here’s to the 2010 edition. You have bought a ton of much needed joy to my life. I’m so proud of this organization right now. Looking forward to the 2011 squad.
Amazing run.
I thought they were out of it so many times during the second round, but after that I didn’t doubt the Flyers ability to keep swingin.
And despite what everyone predicted about this series, the Flyers showed that despite their vastly different approaches to the game, they were very evenly matched teams. The score was often tied in these high scoring games, and I thought to myself all series that the hawks seemed to be able to break the ties more often – it was a fitting way to end the series and I certainly can take solace in the fact that
the flyers went down fighting and were a dominant force in this game, unfortunately just not all the time (and when they were, set up great plays but just didn’t seem to be able to put on the finishing touches.
If this is what Laviolette is capable of in a half a season, I can’t wait to see what he can do at the helm for an entire season.
Lastly, I was proud of the class the Flyers fans showed in cheering the Hawks players with the cup and sticking around, although I somehow doubt that it will put a dent in our reputation as being obnoxious.
This game was an edge-of-the-seat strong effort to cap off an amazing playoff run.
Thanks to the Flyers for all the wonderful and exciting hours of hockey this season!
I’m not a frequent poster but I read the site religiously and I want you all to know that I think you guys are awesome. You all helped to keep the season entertaining even through the rough spots. I can’t even tell you how many times that my fiance thought I ws a lunatic because I was sitting at the computer laughing my ass off about something one of you guys posted.
I want to thank the entire Flyers organization for this magical run over the past 2 months. The character and determination these guys displayed is truly an inspiration. It was a pleasure to see a team play for each other and stay focused on their common goal. They played with so much heart that they made it ok for me to drop $400 for a Finals ticket despite being out of work. This group made it worthwhile and they have given me a lifetime of memories.
Congrats to the ‘Hawks, especially former Flyer Patrick Sharp (I’m still pissed about that trade) on a great series. In the end they were the better team and they deserved to hoist the Cup. It hadn’t really sunk in that the season was over and then after the game I saw the Claude Giroux History Will Be Made commercial and it brought a tear to my eye as I realized this ride was over. Here is to hoping that the Flyers can build on this season and get those last 2 wins next season.
