Gritty veteran defenseman Sean O'Donnell signed by Flyers
And now, meet your complete Flyers defense.
Sean O'Donnell has been signed by the Flyers to a one-year deal. He'll make $1 million plus bonuses, down from $1.25 million a year ago. If you like a guy like Ian Laperriere, you're going to enjoy O'Donnell. He's a grizzled, durable veteran who is really the perfect fit on the Philadelphia blueline. He's missed just five games since 2005.
He'll likely be the number 6 guy on that blueline, rounding out a unit that includes Chris Pronger, Kimmo Timonen, Matt Carle, Braydon Coburn, Andrej Meszaros and now O'Donnell. Oskars Bartulis will be the seventh defenseman, as expected. This also spells the end of Lukas Krajicek and likely Danny Syvret's days in the organization.
O'Donnell, 38, won a Cup with Pronger in 2007 with Anaheim.

pairings
Pronger-Carle
Kimmo-O’Donnell
Coburn-Meszaros
Or do they go Kimmo-Coburn and Meszaros-O’Donnell.
Personally I like to see O’Donnell’s physicality paired with Kimmo. Obviously the PP would be different.
how much cap will we free up if we move syvret and krajicek

We don’t have either one under contract, so they’re aren’t included in the cap numbers at all right now

Awesome.
Best defense in the NHL on paper. Love this move.
He’ll be our 6th guy, probably paired with Coburn or Meszaros.
O’Donnell will start the season as the 6th D until our Latvian Lion pushes him aside

i like this move alot. solid veteran to round out the d corps. as far as the other moves? i’m highly disappointed. the only realistic trade they could make, if theyre really not trading carter, would be trading gagne. and he has a ntc. its looking more and more like this is the team we’re going with. might be good enough for a strong regular season but Leighton is gonna come back to haunt us again in the playoffs. for more on this see-mostly every flyers playoff team the past 30 years
I like this signing. I think he’ll fill out the D nicely, and not for a lot also. As I said about Coburn, in his thread, I think that we overpaid to extend Coburn. I was expecting something in the 2M range for him b/c he was an RFA and we could have tendered him, and even if we lost him, we’d get picks and have Meszaros, and could have signed another person, so although I really like the D right now, I’m worried about the Goaltending.
