BSH Radio 24: Recapping free agency, trying to understand Paul Holmgren
We've been scratching our heads over the last few weeks trying to understand exactly what Paul Holmgren has up his sleeve.
Whether it's signing goons to long term deals, planning on trading a fan favorite who's spent 11 years here, signing a goalie before the seeing what was available on the open market, trading for a defenseman who makes a lot of money when more financially friendly options were clearly available, etc., Homer has made more than a few questionable moves so far this summer.
On this week's episode of BSH Radio, Ben, Geoff and myself try to make sense of everything that's been done this summer. What moves were solid? What moves were dumb? Why were they all made? And what should we expect the rest of the offseason on the transaction front?
Also, we play more games and we try to come up with a name for Geoff's new cat.
Get the show after the jump.

my cat is named Niitty (black cat) and my bro’s cat is Ritchie (orange cat). got them back when niitty was still on the team

Very well named. :) Is the orange cat tenacious and the black cat stops most things that come in its direction?

The black cat only stop things from Atlanta.

lupes would be a better name for my bro’s cat but Richards is my bro’s fav flyer and his cat was supposed to be a trouble maker.
by historywillbemade on Jul 14, 2010 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions
a trouble maker who never lived up to his full potential. sounds like lupul. is he also a male ho who’s prone to awkward song stylings?

it is a male cat and he does make strange cooing sounds.

Cats do not do anything strange. Humans interpret things cats do as being strange because humans are incapable of understanding cat motivation. Everything a human does is strange. Ask a cat.

I love cats, more than dogs—but my cat is very strange. He lifts the return covers from the floors and explores the air conditioning ductwork in the house. He’s a goddamn spelunker. He nearly trapped himself in our new house to the point where we almost had to rip up the ceiling to get him out. We had to screw every single one of them into the wood floors to prevent his almost certain death. He thinks he’s Tony Freaking Hawk (or some other daredevil type—you fill in the blank)

Looks like he gives you a lot of mental and physical exercise and keeps fit at the same time. He’s a cat. It’s what he does. What’s his name?
Ask your dog what he thinks. He’ll concur.
by TopShelfTony on Jul 14, 2010 5:58 PM EDT up reply actions
He gives me heart attacks is what he does. His name is Blaze and he’s down to 3 lives. But he’s the best cat ever. Even if he is bizarre, even by cat standards. My other cat even looks at him askew. The dog, OTOH, is a border dog, so everything outside of status quo makes him insane. Ice maker? Bark like it’s the end of the world. Sneeze? Bark even more. Don’t even think about knocking on that front door.
"Tortorella’s got it all wrong ... Gaborik shouldn’t be messing with our skilled player." -Peter Luukko
Sounds like my house: the cats are from another dimension as far the dog is concerned, and the dog doesn’t exist as far as the cats are concerned. But the dog and one of the cats are both hockey fans. They love to watch the games with me.
The dog barks at the referees. The cat never loses sight of the puck.

Especially if it’s a black cat. Or black and orange.

They cancelled the waivers before they cleared… it was just a precaution in case they needed the cap room (he was waived at the deadline), but since they didn’t acquire anybody he never went down. Bah.

I have blue eyes and play goalie…sign me FLYERS. I’m sure I would’ve stopped Patrick Kane on that goal in OT

I also have blue eyes and play goalie. But Homer has already signed me.

Geoff, is your cat making too much noise ALL THE TIME, stomping around and DRIVING YOU CRAZY, or CLAWING AT YOUR FURNITURES? Kitten mittons is the answer for you. Kitten mittons, you’ll be smitten.

Not sure about the trivia especially when it comes to naming european goalie prospects and such, but just to even bullshit around and talk Flyers hockey.

I’m pretty sure if you email Travis, he’ll set something up. We’re always cool with guests.
We had HockeyOutsiders on the one time. Our next show will probably be in two weeks.

Also, make no mistake, I am not talking about calling in, I am talking about hanging in studio. It has a sort of Wayne’s World feel to it and I would think it would be a blast to enjoy the ambiance, a couple beers and some pizza or something.

haha, if we actually recorded in one spot, I’d agree. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to film in our mother’s basements.

So another uneventful day in the offseason…. egad I wish we could just have a look at the finished roster already but we have to wait this boring stalemate out…screw you kovie
by historywillbemade on Jul 14, 2010 8:59 PM EDT reply actions
Yeah we really need to find something to do. Kovie signing won’t really make any difference other than it will give us more locations to speculate about Gagne.
Backing Backlund for 2010-2011
i’m pretty sure that once Kovie signs somewhere that a gagne trade will happen pretty quickly

Just kidding, it will just be like the second wave of FA frenzies, and maybe we’ll know how our roster will shake out to be.
