BSH Game Finals Detail - THIS SUNDAY!

Date:  August 8th (this sunday) 10:00am (if you can get there earlier, all the better, so we can secure the rink.  Power in numbers.  I plan on trying to get there around 9 or so.)

Location: Lewis J. Smith Park and Swimming Pool

122 Mary Waters Ford Road, Bala Cynwyd PA 19004

                    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=122+Marywatersford+Road,+Bala+Cynwyd+PA+19004&sll=40.024032,-75.24092&sspn=0.0035,0.007253&ie=UTF8&ll=40.024985,-75.241263&spn=0.007,0.014505&z=16&iwloc=addr

Quickly, if you're on 76, you want the Belmont Ave. exit.  If coming east, take exit and make a right, if coming west, take exit and make a left.  You're first right comes up very quckly (right at the gas station) and is Ashland Ave. Take that and follow Ashland Ave.  Don't bear right on Jefferson St.  Ashland will wrap around to a stop where you make a soft left/straight and it becomes Marywatersford Rd.  Go approx. 1/4 mile and park will be on your left.  There are two entrances.  The first will bring you back to tennis courts, and the next will take you back to the rink.  (okay, not so quickly....)

Things to bring:  Bring both a white shirt, and an orange shirt, for teams.  Any friends are welcome to play as well.  Any extra equipment (goalie stuff) that you don't mind sharing wouldn't hurt, just to be sure we have enough stuff.

I know we always say we're going to go out afterward for drinks, but last time it didn't happen, so maybe if we don't all run ourselves into the ground, we can hop out somewhere for a little when we're done.

Anything I forgot?  Let me know, and I'll add it.   Rec. this so it sticks out...

Travis, maybe late in the week you can throw a post up on the main page just so we're sure everyone sees it?

DG, don’t settle for that miniscule title. I believe a title more befitting would be chief statistician.

Migraines are the worst thing ever. Also, I think you should be the Commissioner, statistician is just a job for people who aren’t good enough to play (trust me, I was one for 3 years!). You’re better than that, you’re just the most organized of us all.

Never been to that rink but certainly interested and I probably could get other people. I’m in the habit of playing at a rink that’s at a park in Chester that’s near my bro’s house. It hardly ever gets used (it’s in chester)

by historywillbemade on Jul 17, 2010 9:48 AM EDT reply actions

I was born in Chester, and made a pledge to never return. The rink off Belmont is perfect. Great surface, really nice boards and nets, and it shares a parking lot with a pool, so there’s lots of women walking around.

Do you have anyone that would be willing to play goal?

by Vansteel on Jul 17, 2010 10:04 AM EDT up reply actions

I’m a goalie so that’s no problem on that front

by tmurder on Jul 17, 2010 8:21 PM EDT reply actions

If you’re coming east on 76 from the blue route, get off at Belmont Ave, make your first quick right on Ashland Ave, which wraps around and becomes Marywatersford Rd. Its about 2 miles or so up on your left then, at a park with a pool….

Why not Devils?

I’m a ILWT guy. My fiancee lives in South Jersey and I play in a NYC street hockey league. I could work on getting ILWT members or the NYC BTSH league and probably get some guys to come down and make the trip.

We Devils fans will do anything now; we’re drinking the Kovy Kool Aid.

I have respect for most sports fans with 2 exceptions: NY Ranger fans who grew up in New Jersey, and Dallas Cowboy fans who can't name the capital of Texas.

by Cherno77 on Jul 19, 2010 4:38 PM EDT up reply actions

I suggested the same thing. Unfortunately, This rink was very close for a lot of people who are no longer willing to travel to a different rink now that it’s in their backyard.

by BroadStreetBully on Jul 19, 2010 9:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, first off, this rink is still an hour drive for me, and it’s just a great rink. That’s why I suggested it. You just happen to live way the fuck out there. Second, this topic was just for a BSH game. Personally, I think a game between rival fan bases will get ugly. You can say all you want that we’ll stay civil, but when it comes down to it, I’ve seen how they treat other team’s fans on ILWT. Sure, that’s just on-line, but all it will take is one comment (from either side) and shit is going to get ugly.

by Vansteel on Jul 19, 2010 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions

by BroadStreetBully on Jul 19, 2010 9:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Ha….I’m 180 lbs. and very aware of my size, so I’m not sure where you’re going with that. Simply saying, the Belmont rink isn’t in my backyard. It’s centrally located to 80% of the people that play, however, so it makes the most sense.

by Vansteel on Jul 19, 2010 9:54 PM EDT up reply actions

None of these rinks make sense for me but none of you want to come to Cornwall, PA. Haha

Flyers Fans: We've survived Lock-outs, Lindros and Cooperalls. If you want to get rid of us, you'll have to split an atom or two.

by KreiderDesigns on Jul 19, 2010 11:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Then why try for a Jasper's game?

I’ve been an ice hockey official for 13 years and a coach for 4. When I say that all could be civil on bringing people from either community that I’m a member of , I mean it.

The rink is also doable for me when I’m down in South Jersey on weekends. . .
Additionally, my dual role of being a Devils’ fan, but a Phillies and Eagles fan, makes me a 6’3 200lbs. walking Switzerland.

Let me know if you are planning doing this roller only this time. I do plan on finally joining the dark side and buying a pair of skates, but probably won’t have gotten to it by the first week of August.

I’ve all but given up on the ice hockey game unless I hear back from my friend that runs an open ice game every Saturday.

by DLJr on Jul 19, 2010 8:45 AM EDT reply actions

Well, to be honest, I would always prefer if it were all skaters. But from the lack of response so far, it might not be as near as the first week, so maybe you’ll have time.

August 15th and 21st to the 28th I’m busy but so far everything else is open. I would also like to play out and anybody can use my goalie equipment.

How long do the games usually last? Basically how long are people there for

by Wilkey on Jul 20, 2010 12:35 AM EDT reply actions

It depends. The first one was quite long, I think we played for almost 4 hours, off and on. Last one was much shorter, as it was stinking hot, and our goalies were losing about 13 lbs. an hour, so it only lasted about 2 hours. That includes warm-ups and everything….

If we were able to get a tournament together, it would be a little longer, but you teams would be sitting for some games.

Response is slow, but I’d like to set a tentative date of August 1st. If you’ve responded that you’re in, and this date is bad, let it be known.

Geoff, haven’t heard anything from you, are you available? I know Travis is away, but can we assume he’d be in?

by Vansteel on Jul 22, 2010 6:59 AM EDT reply actions

For August 1st I probably won’t have skates. So I’ll let it be your call if you want to add me or not. If you do, I’ll be there, possibly on skates, but probably not, and my girlfriend would be in as well if you are so kind as to allow it again.

Is this the right room for an argument?

by DLJr on Jul 22, 2010 8:43 AM EDT up reply actions

Of course. Everyone is welcome. Just curious, what are you looking to spend on skates?

by Vansteel on Jul 22, 2010 8:57 AM EDT up reply actions

I don’t know. I need to replace my skates for ice this year, which kills my budget. The other thing that sucks is, my feet are so messed up, I only really feel comfortable in certain boots (tried on 23 different types last time, went through all the Grafs too which supposedly have a skate for every foot type…yeah, they don’t), and unfortunately the ones that fit me the best are the top of the line Easton’s…so that leaves me even less money to spend. If we get enough games together, and make this a regular thing, I have no problem spending around $250 on a pair (just not sure if it’s in my budget for a few months). But if it’s just an every once in a while thing, I rather spend around $100 or less.

I don’t really like Bauer, their hockey skates sit too far back toward the heel, not sure if this is also the same for their blades (I like being on my toes, I could always buy risers to correct it though I guess). I’ve never been in anything Mission or Reebok makes boot wise. I’ll take suggestions.

Is this the right room for an argument?

by DLJr on Jul 22, 2010 10:02 AM EDT up reply actions

What size are you? There’s a great thrift store by my house that I check out periodically. Last time I went my buddy bought a pair of Missions for $15.

I’m a 10-10.5 sneaker and I wear an 8.5-9 hockey boot. Depending how roller blades work, you can go from that haha. Thanks for keeping your eye out.

Have you had a pro shop bake your boots to mold to your feet?

by Vansteel on Jul 22, 2010 11:46 AM EDT up reply actions

Yep, doesn’t help, granted it makes it slightly better, but that doesn’t really address my issues. My arch in my foot is ridiculous, plus a couple other issues, but the arch is usually what kills me in fitting in boots properly. I found a boot that fits perfectly for hockey, it’s expensive, but I’ll pay for the fit, b/c it’s amazing. I’ll play through the pain, b/c I always had in the past, but I finally found a boot that is awesome…just not gonna pay that premium for roller hockey.

Is this the right room for an argument?

by DLJr on Jul 22, 2010 12:00 PM EDT up reply actions

I can tell you what not to get – Tours. Every friend I’ve had that’s bought a pair of those has had them break catastrophically within a few months of buying them.

If the arch in your foot is what’s causing problems, can’t you get some of those Dr. Scholls for skates thingies?

by Phalange on Jul 26, 2010 10:27 AM EDT up reply actions

Nah. I have extreme high arches (actually one of the reasons I started running, to try to flatten them out a bit…it actually has worked). It’s not the support at the bottom of the arch as much as how the skate fits over the arch (mostly at the insides of the boot, right on the inside of the laces).

But note to self, no tours. I’m pissed at my hockey skates. I have the Easton Stealth 15 (the first version of it, the super light ones). The things have fallen apart at the toe (I do play year round plus tournies, and used to play 2 leagues both winter and summer, so they did get a lot of wear, but still). Unfortunately for me, they fixed the design flaw in the next years version.

Is this the right room for an argument?

I counted it all up, and the 8th is definitely going to draw more people…

For the 8th, it looks like you’d most likely have myself, Vansteel, darkside3744, flyguy11589, Kreider, sjuhawks42, flyersfrk05, Geoff, historywillbemade, bfrank27, and DLJr; plus maybes from Fezzlekway, JpH89, beatniche, and Travis (assumed); then unconfirmed interest from tmurder and Wilkey (and possibly ic0n67?).

I’d say you should edit the fanpost’s title, choose a time for the 8th, and try to get people to re-confirm their attendance once it’s definite. If you get some of the maybes, it should all work out.

by Vansteel on Jul 26, 2010 1:47 PM EDT up reply actions

I drove 2+ hours each time…I don’t want to hear anyone complain about distance unless they’re further than I am.

Haha I live a few minutes away from Geoff, but the only distance thing is my mom. See Im only 17 so driving anywhere far is a big deal for my overprotective mother :) I may be a +1 or even more, I have to ask. So I guess put me down as a maybe for either date

by Wilkey on Jul 26, 2010 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Soooo…you’re saying going out for shots afterwards isn’t gonna work?

by Vansteel on Jul 26, 2010 5:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Now where the heck did I say that? :)

by Wilkey on Jul 26, 2010 9:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t know exactly where you’re starting from, but you can take the regional rail close enough to be technically within walking distance… But it you didn’t want to walk, it’s possible someone would come get you since it’s only about a mile.

Aug 1-good, can bring 1
Aug 8-good, can bring 2, including a goalie.

by Vansteel on Jul 26, 2010 2:02 PM EDT reply actions

I’m good either or. Need to decide soon if it’s this weekend though.

I should be good for either as well. I can probably bring at least 1 for both weekends.

Scratch that. I can’t make the 8th now because I have to lead the Kids Sunday School at my Church. Also, the 1st would work a lot better for my friend that I am bringing.

It definitely sounds like we’re deciding on Aug. 8th. Is that the case?

Okay I am officially coming! Right now I am the only one, but I MAY have a +1. Now I have a goalie mask, goalie leg pads, and goalie gloves. If absolute need be I can play goalie if I have a stick and chestpad, but I would prefer not to.

Turns out I’m good that day. I’m not going away until the weekend after.

Goalie Situtation

Ok, let’s try to hammer this out. I’d prefer to not play this time, switch it up a little. I can bring my pads if someone else needs them but I would prefer not to. So who’s between the pipes this time?

Bring your pads, I will play if need be. I played goalie in roller hockey for about 6 years a few years ago, and I hate it… Butttttttt for the betterment of the game I can play. (But I would want to switch so I can skate a little bit)

by Wilkey on Jul 29, 2010 6:27 PM EDT up reply actions

I mean I only need a chest pad and a stick, I have everything else.

by Wilkey on Jul 29, 2010 6:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Can you bring your pads either way? Always good to have extra pads, just in case.

You meaning me or you meaning Wilkey? I’d really rather not have to lug my stuff as I’ll be heading to AC after the game. Monica is not going to want my stinky ass pads in her trunk the whole time.

Well I will be bringing my pads (everything BUT chest pads and a stick) just in case

by Wilkey on Jul 29, 2010 7:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, both of you… if you really want to, you could drop the pads off at my house on your way to AC and pick them up on the way back. I’m right off of the AC Expressway.

That won’t be necessary for me, I’m right outside of Philly. But again I want to emphasize how I would rather not be a goalie :)

You’re under 21, right? I’ll buy you some beer if you play goal………just joking….

August 8th

Jenn and I are definitely in, we’ll be on feet though. Unless I happen in to a hockey shop at some point during next week and find a pair of skates of course…

Let me know if anyone needs extra sticks, gloves, etc…I have tons of extra hockey equipment laying around, most if it comes with a pretty good stink though, so borrower be warned.

Goalies

Kreider wants to play out, darkside3744, are you coming? Are you looking to play out as well? I think I am bringing at least 1 goalie, if he doesn’t bail on me. He doesn’t skate, so he’ll definitely be in goal, and I may have another goalie, but he’s sketchy at best. Historywillbemade, are you in?

I counted, and if everyone that’s posted is still in, we should have between 15-20.

by Vansteel on Aug 1, 2010 7:58 AM EDT reply actions

As I said before I would rather play out but I can play goalie if there is noone else

by Wilkey on Aug 1, 2010 9:48 AM EDT up reply actions

Wellllll

I have’nt bought any wheels for my skates so I might have to play net though I’d rather be out. I still have a week to try to get some but if not I’ll be playing in net. By some chance I do get wheels somebody can use my goalie equipment.

So I just realized that the reason my skates were like caving in (if you didnt notice) and making me look really weird, was because they are 4 sizes too big.

Sorry I missed it.

Between being pretty freaking sick, and my legs not working after the 16mi run on Saturday, I’m pretty sure I saved someone a trip from driving me to the hospital.

Glad to see it was a good time. I look forward tot he next one.

I may be hitting open ice on the 27th at the skate zone if they still do Friday night open ice if anyone is interested.
