Dear Simon Gagne,
First of all, I would like to wish you the best of luck in Tampa Bay. I can now honestly say that I have a second favorite team. The Umburger trade gave me a soft spot for Columbus. The Upshall trade and having two friends go to school in Arizona does the same for Phoenix. The Olympics made me appreciate young American talent throughout the league (Dusty Brown on the Kings), but I've never had a legitimate second favorite team. I can honestly say now, that if the Flyers are out of the playoffs I can root whole-heartedly for your Lightning. I think you will have a great season playing with either Vinny or Stamkos.
Secondly, and the main point of this letter is to thank you for the amazing years that you have given me. When I was younger I idolized Lindros and LeClair for reasons unbeknownst to me. Now I understand why I loved them and love you, and it is because you guys embodied everything we root for in Philadelphia: toughness, determination, leadership, and most of all the ability to compete and win. Your ability to fight through injury the past few years and still be one of the most successful Flyers has been amazing to watch. Your playoffs this year were miraculous. Your ability to score clutch goals as a Flyer is unprecedented, and you will forever remain in the orange and black in my heart.
Simon, now lets get down to business. We all know you are worth more than you were traded for, and we hope you understand it was strictly for salary cap purposes that we had to "dump" you. That being said, you only have about eleven and a half months on your current contract... so what next? It is never too early to start looking in the future, and I could see you back with us come next July 1. Simon, every person who ever even thought about supporting the OnB wants you on this squad more than anyone. So whaddya say, next year, for around 2 to 3 million for 2 to 3 years, you come back. You've only been gone for about an hour, and the pain I feel for the absence of you in my heart is unbearable. Please come back. Pretty please! Simon, best of luck in TB, and hopefully this absence will be short lived.
A huge fan (speaking for the Orange and Black nation)
