I was looking over some rumors on hockeybuzz.com, and I came across something that caught my attention. It said that the L.A. Kings are trying to sign Kovalchuk, and that they are working out a deal with an Eastern team. I though of the Flyers instantly. Let me know your thoughts on this trade.
To L.A.: Jeff Carter, Brian Boucher.
To Philadelphia: Scott Parse, Wayne Simmonds and Jonathan Bernier.
A good trade for both teams. The Kings get a dynamic center it Carter who they had been asking for previousley, and they get a good back-up for Jonathon Quick in Boucher. The Flyers get to up and coming right wings which they desperately need and a young good goaltender with tons of potential in Bernier. The Flyers could start Bernier and play Leighton in a good amount of games to help ease Bernier in. The Flyers would finally have a young netminder for the future. Plus all of these guys combined have a cap hit of around $2 million/season, so this would be a geat way to clear cap space, and be able to re-sign Darroll Powe and Dan Carcillo. And think of line combos. Here are some examples:
Gagne/Richards/Parse, Hartnell/Briere/Leino, JVR/Giroux/Simmonds, Shelley, Powe or Carcillo/Betts/Lappy
To me that looks like a pretty good team. You finally get good right wings to play with Richie and Giroux (Simmonds and Parse could paly on either line) and you get a franchise goalie.
What are your thoughts?
