Yay!
Kinda had to, though, with Betts’ situation, right?

they are now approximately 2 dollars and 63 cents under the salary cap! Yay!
they’re gonna waive Cote, right?……right?

They also have a 24 man roster! Are they even allowed to have that many players on the active roster during the season? Anyways, they will windle it down to 22 as usual by the time the season starts.

My bad. For some reason I just always thought we only had two healthy scratches a game.

There were times we had 3 this year. But I’m guessing that the Flyers informed the NHL that Betts would be going on LTIR and that allowed them to sign Powe, or something of that nature. We would probably have heard about it if someone was waived.

They can go over 23 in the off-season, right? I can’t imagine why not. There’s no roster limits in July, right?

The CBA lists a 10% cap overage allowed, but it doesn’t say anything about roster size. The only listed clause that I know of allowing them to go above 23 on the active roster is the 48 hour goalie exemption. They can send the paperwork to the NHL to make somebody non-roster (like waive them), but they have to actually go through the process.

I mean, the clause listing the 10% overage for the cap doesn’t have a similar provision about allowing the active NHL roster to be higher; I didn’t mean that the CBA doesn’t say anything about roster size, haha.

I’m not 100% sure, but I believe the roster limit does not apply in the offseason.

Yeah, this is my thinking. Because who’s to say those guys make the team?

Not a big fan of Powe but based on DragonGirl’s explanation of Nodl’s waiver exemption, the cap hit of this deal, and Bett’s shoulder injury I am okay with it. For the second offseason in a row my hopes of landing Fedotenko have been crushed.
I don’t know if I can ever forgive Rusty for killing us while in Tampa and playing on the Pens…well unless he punches Crosby in the face anyone who does that is fine by me, especially goalies (Howard, Lundqvist).

I am good with this one, it’s one of the better signings. It was for a modest increase on the $500k from last year. Powe’s numbers are VERY similar to Ben Eager’s (though with far less PIMs), and Eager is coming off a $1M/year contract and is looking for a raise, so I am glad to see that Homer did not Overpay on this one.
Cheers,
