Jared Ross Signs with Atlanta
Jared Ross Signs with Atlanta - from NHL.com
I liked Jared Ross - I thought he was a decent call up player for the Flyers - Even though he didn't have very good offensive numbers with the Phantoms last year (12 goals and 34 assists in 73 games, while the season before he had 29 goals and 40 assists in 64 games), losing both Matsumoto and now Ross puts a big hole in the Flyers depth at Center at the minor-league level.

Yeah, I saw this. It’s a two-way deal, but hopefully he gets a good amount of playing time with the Thrashers. Closest thing he can call to a “hometown team.”

Who the hell are we suiting up for the Phantoms next year? Like seriously, I’m not sure that team is capable of winning a single game right now.
Formerly... "You don't have to be sweet, to be good"
I don’t have enough info to be truly informed here, so this is pure opinion. When Mika Pyorala made a remark late in the season about how the guys in Adirondack didn’t care to learn the system, and Pat Maroon then said the guys didn’t buy into the system (both paraphrasing, I’m not going back for the actual quotes at the moment); it definitely makes me question how good of a job Ross was doing as the captain of the team. I’m sure that would be better answered by someone who watched the Phantoms, but the quotes we were hearing scared me quite a bit. And if all that is true, I’m not really opposed to some turnover in the AHL this year.

I took those quotes as a reflection on Greg Gilbert. As far as I can tell he’s a mediocre-to-bad coach who was hired in part because he already lived in the Adirondack area. But yeah, there’s going to be a good amount of turnover with the Phantoms — young players coming in, veterans who aren’t suited to a Laviolette-esque system going out, which I can only imagine is a good thing. That team was awful. The only reason they were in competition for a playoff spot at points in the season was because of Backlund.

maybe it’s all for the best that the phantoms could hide in adirondack last year. they would have been booed in philly. far cry from the years that the phantoms made playoffs yearly and won the calder cup

See, I took the quotes as the players weren’t listening to Gilbert. Surely, the coach has some blame for not getting through to the players, but the players need responsibility for not falling in line.
In general, it was just a terrible, terrible year up there.
