Prince of Wales Trophy Capitals engraving NOT a hoax!
This was brought to my attention in the Fly By thread by Ben Feldman. I checked PuckDaddy and sure enough the photos were authentic.
So the engraving error wasn't a hoax, it was real. The end of the article mentions a possible mix up between engraving the Prince of Wales trophy and the President's Trophy, but I really don't buy that. The people who work at the Hall of Fame apparently don't watch much hockey, because they should know who won what, and even if they were mixed up, you should know which trophy is which.
P.S. What was the Prince of Wales trophy doing in Chicago anyways?? I would think it should travel to Philly first (it may have, I don't know for sure so correct me if I'm wrong on that). Chicago already has the Stanley Cup and the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl.

My guess is they assumed the Caps were gonna roll through the playoffs and jumped the gun on the engraving. Much like the infamous “Dewey Defeats Truman” headline.
Lightning strikes once, Hextall strikes twice!
