Off-Topic: The Garrett Klotz Argument Thread
I noticed as we started talking / joking about The Garrett Klotz Argument, it took on a life of its own. I also noticed that, the more we talked about it, the more I realized I was serious about wanting to try to do something about it. Unfortunately, I've also noticed how hard it is to arrange get-togethers for the BSH community.
Therefore, my fellow musicians, I have a proposition for ye, fair and true.
I say we act like the group The Postal Service and send each other tracks either through the mail or through a shared internet host where we can download files for recording / playalong. For example, I could record a guitar / metronome track and send to Lindbergh31. He can add a bass track to it and send to The Dark for marimba or percussion. Then The Dark could send to Fezzlekway for vocals. Fezz could send back to me and I could mix.
We could collaborate entirely by mail and FTP server in a low-key fashion - no gigs, no rehearsals, just people making music for ourselves and our e-friends here at BSH. And who knows - maybe someone will throw a Stanley Cup party at the end of next season and The Garrett Klotz Argument could provide the entertainment.
So what are your thoughts? I'd love to hear what you all think. If anyone's game, let's get crackin'. I already wrote a song, which I've tentatively titled "Through The Wickets." I can record and send it, probably by the end of next week, if anyone's interested.
(For the record, I'm aware I didn't reference all of the musicians from the original thread. It's nothing personal - I just picked a few at random, largely because I remembered what they played.)

I have no musical talents whatsoever, but this sounds pretty damn cool. If it happens, we’ll play The Garrett Klotz Argument on BSH Radio all the time.

Agreed entirely. This seems ridiculously awesome.
Plus, I feel a sense of creativity because of my role in the initial naming.

What started as a joke in the means of decompression has truly gained consciousness and garnered a life of its own. ’Ol Fezz is totally down for the project. I think this could be alot of fun and I would be honored to become the BSH House Band…
mikefive is a madman, already composing music…LOVE IT!
Cant wait to hear it so I can write up some lyrics and add some vocals…
Totally stoked that Travis wants to put us on BSH Radio…I am thinking first thing we need to do is write a theme song for the BSH Radio Show…
From there it will be one small step to making sure everyone knows…

I also slappa de bass mon, I’d need music in order to add anything because I am terrible at playing by ear. It’s really what holds me back from playing in a band.

Awesome you play bass too!!! Sweetness.
So can we get a 2 bass thing going in this band or how will it work? lol.

I actually don’t know how to play double bass, probably because I don’t have one and never had a chance to learn one. (Or were you meaning having 2 basses in the music?? lol)
I have two electrics (Schecter and Ibanez) plus a ton of effects which will will be cool for this style perhaps.

2 basses = double bass.
Oooh pretty basses. I have a fender pb4, it treats me well. A couple of decent pedals but nothing to be excited about

Haha ok so two basses. I have never done that before so it will be interesting. In all of my music before I’ve kind of done like more melodic bass playing in metal or rock to kind of bring all the guitars and drums together so my approach is to fill in spaces in music. I don’t know what style of bassist you are but I think that if we think about it enough we can think of something different but cool.
My Ibanez is what I always use. Nice SR900 I have which is discontinued but look it up, it’s a great bass.
My pedals are what I’m proud of, lol. I have a Morley Bass Wah, A Sansamp, and a bunch of Boss pedals like Bass Overdrive, Bass Chorus, Flanger, Phase Shifter, and Delay. Lol, I listen to a lot of bassist who use effects and it made me want to buy them, but they’re fun to use.

Have you guys ever heard the band Mahogany? I’m not sure if they’re still around or not. They had two bass players. One was more “in the pocket” and had a round, bass-heavy tone for being in lock-step with the two drummers. The other bassist was somewhat more melodic and had a punchier tone.
Sound samples here.

Mahogany? or Mahogany Rush?

Listened to some of them, but my laptop speakers are so crap I couldn’t hear any bass. I’ll hook it up to my stereo later today and have a listen.

I’m glad this is actually getting serious.
I would definitely be down but unfortunately I probably won’t be able to commit time to sitting down and recording for at least the next month as I have to spend time working on my thesis. I can definitely listen to stuff and get ideas while I’m traveling around to stuff and then by the time I’d be ready to record something I would be ready.
Also I work a lot better when there are drums and percussion already on with guitar, so maybe by the time everything is ready I can add, but this sounds like a great idea and I have no current music project taking up my creativity.
So you have a song and we’ll be making the theme song for BSH radio… who knows what else will come from this!! Exciting indeed.

Theme song HAS to ROCK…perhaps a little more than the Proggy feeling I get from what is all being discussed (dont get me wrong I LOVE old school Prog Rock)…
Can’t wait to get first track…Don’e be surprised if my inner nerd takes over and it comes back with a Lead AND 2-4 Backing Vocal tracks (I learned a long time ago how a little tweek of the pitch control can make me sound like 4 different people LOL)

Unfortunately, I currently don’t have any instruments or recording equipment (amazing how that stuff vanishes when you’re a poor college student). Given that the next splurge on my list is replacing the cellphone that just zonked out on me…and paying off the car loan…
If I can work out the logistics, I’ll be happy to help, but right now I don’t have the gear.

I ask because my 4-track $hit the bed a few years ago, ever since I use Garageband on my MAC, but it is only for Mac. It rocks though turns my Mac into a digital 24 track studio…

That’s some weird ambient stuff there!!
Lol, even at 800% slower he still sounds like a pre-pubescent girl singing.
Speaking of weird ambient stuff, while I read your posts on that I was in the middle of listening to Pink Floyd’s “Echoes”. Did you know that that song syncs up with the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey? It’s pretty trippy when it goes through the Stargate and all. Somebody put the song to the movie and put it on Youtube:

It’s pretty cool if you like PInk Floyd and the movie, and I think it’s a pretty trippy experience and it syncs up exactly. I’ve never been able to get the Dark Side of the Rainbow to ever work though….

By all accounts, the Pink Floyd/Kubrick sync is very cool, and even more “together” than Dark Side of the Rainbow.
However, it’s purely coincidental.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
Yeah I’m sure it’s coincidental and I’ve read that link you sent so I’m sure it wasn’t meant for that, and even if it was we will never know, but it’s still cool. Like you said it’s more together than Dark Side of the Rainbow (I need to try that by renting the Wizard of Oz and then maybe it will work, but maybe I won’t see it ever).
Glad you guys enjoyed that.
