After reading some of the articles, at 2am none-the-less, that Brodeur one is pretty much 100% awesome.

From the HB article:
Wellwood is the resident chef.

H2H is awful for just about any fantasy sport outside of Football (because everyone plays the same amount of games per week).
I like H2H for baseball. Rotisserie is just brutal over 162 games.

It is okay. But it does suck when your opponent has 2 staff aces and both of them pitch twice in a week when you end up only having one and he gets rained out for his only start that week … Not saying it is not bad, but it can defiantly be unbalanced.
What ever happened to the points leagues? I used to play points WAY back in the day for all my sports. In points it works like H2H where you get point (or negative points) for doing things, but you are not heads up against anyone looking for a win or a loss. Had such a good year one year in hockey I actually scored enough points to win my league before December was over. I guess that answers my own question >.>
haha, exactly.

Just set up a Yahoo FFL (H2H) for Eagles Fanz only, man did the 12 spots fill up quick, even got a Eagle fan from North of the border LOL!
I do agree though H2H is very difficult for hockey, I always liked the ‘Points’ leagues best, but it seems as though rotisserie is the way to go…usually I only like my chicken rotisseried, not my hockey LOL!

I see this fan summit thing is a communal effort by all the blogs, but the game on the 16th could be tough to get tickets for… is that going to be set in stone by the time tickets go on sale? It mentions possibly moving it to the Isles game farther down, so I don’t know how far they gotten in the planning over there.

OUCH!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the cringe worthy picture. Not having an ACL in my right knee from a collision like that runs my blood cold. Now I have to leave until this is far enough down the main page I won’t have to see it anymore.
Just Call Me "M"!
Jagr? Really? I was embarrassed for the Rangers fans when I saw that and then I remembered I hate Rags fans and went on with my day.
"Call me dumb, call me stupid, whatever. I block shots."
Don’t get me wrong I hate the Rangers more than any other team and have for a long time no matter how sad they are, but that list was a travesty of a mockery of a sham. That dude from Blueshirt Banter should be fired today for that blasphemy he perpetrated against his constituents.
Just Call Me "M"!
A traveshamockery?
Seriously, there were so many other players who could’ve filled that spot.
I can understand some controversy with this Puckmore things, since you’re limited to 4 choices and you have to differentiate between the representative of a franchise versus performance on the ice.
But for an original six team to put up a guy that played 3 years there? I don’t get it.
Off Topic Alert
I watched the game two re-broadcast of the Bruins-Flyers series on NHL Channel yesterday and sadly enough I was just as pissed as I was the first time I watched. I found myself screaming at the TV wanting those announcers to STFU. I even looked at my dad when it was done and said well I think the series is over. :-) And by the way Carter didn’t show the frig up as usual! That part was sarcasm.

More reason to hate the Rangers.
I’d take NHL out of Rangers/NHL. The way the League handles bloggers is the problem, according to the Rangers.

But the NHL is not stepping in to normalize relations or just to set a league wide mandate. The NHL is hurting bloggers by not doing so.

The NHL doesn’t own the players, properties, and organizations involved. And whether or not they could make a mandate stick, I don’t blame them for staying away from this issue, as it allows them to embrace new media while not angering the clubs.
Unless you’re the Rangers….
I agree, the NHL shouldn’t step in and create one-size fits all policy. Things are different in Carolina than they are in New York, and that’s fine.

I’m not saying a one-size fits all policy, how about just send out a memo on how to include/deal with bloggers asking for press credentials? Why should one team be completely open to new media when another team shuts them out? Looks bad for the NHL and cuts off a vital new source of coverage.

If the Rangers make the decision that they can’t accommodate bloggers because there’s no room for them on press row, that’s their choice.

Like you said, that’s not the reason. If it was then we couldn’t complain about it. But since it isn’t the issue and the issue is clearly they just don’t like bloggers, then there is plenty of room for complaint.

Speaking of rules (someone mentioned rule changes over here today, right? erm…) some changes were also applied in our league. One of them would be that the time now goes from 20:00 to 00:00 (like in the NHL). Mind you it used to always be from 00:00 to 20:00. People on the discussion board of my fave team went all crazy over it… it was funny and sad at the same time to witness such drama over stupid clock (or whatever you call it).

One thing most people had issues with was that it’s “like in the NHL.” They were like… “Why do we have to copy all the stuff from the NHL???” blah blah blah… Some of them were practically mad with the NHL! Ridiculous. Seriously… like anyone from the NHL would give a damn to our league.

I think it’s more a case of Americans not being willing to do any math to figure out how much time is left. Even today in the NHL the time a goal is scored is officially registered as the time counting up (i.e., Gagne scored his goal in game 7 at 12:52 of the third period, not with 7:08 remaining).

That’s another thing they complained about. There’ll be 7:08 on the clock while it’ll be registered as 12:52. They don’t like that there’ll be difference.

Flyers Mount Puckmore
So which one of you guys got/get (don’t know if it has been already submitted yet) to do the Flyers mountain? I just don’t want to see Alexandre Daigle or Roman Chekmanek making the mountain.
Don't know who's doing it, but
I was going to put Peter Forsberg as representative of the 90s.

Honest question though … who would you put on the list?
Barber, Clarke, Parent, Van Impe, Poulin, Recchi, MacLeish, Brind’Amour, Desjardins, Dornhoefer, Hextall, Howe, Kelly, Kerr, Lindros, Propp … and people I can’t think off the top of my head … … … All i need to say is as an honorable mention Steve Coates need to make the list.
I dunno, considering it’s supposed to be “the faces of the franchise”, I think you HAVE to include Lindros. When you think of the Flyers’ in the 90s, who do you think of?
Recchi, Lindros, Brindy, LeClair…

I don’t knock anything he did for the franchise. I honestly think Lindros was the reason this team finally took its heads out of it collective asses. I just think with the wealth of players to choose from that the he might not be a shoe in.
I agree. Lindros’ 2 biggest problems with his career were an unforeseen glass jaw, and his parents. And I think the Flyers would have worked around the glass jaw until they had no other choice but to cut ties with him before he became a veg if only Carl and Bonnie had stayed home and kept their mouths SHUT!
I’m sorry but I think having your father as your agent is just retarded. There is no objectivity. All parents (and I speak from experience) think their kid is the greatest thing since sliced bread. NOT GOOD when trying to negotiate a contract, the agent should have one thing on his mind…HIS PERCENTAGE! Any outside ties only complicate things.
But I digress…

I am not a fan of the putting non-ice personalities into the series honestly. Especially when you have a history of players like the Flyers have. Plus we need at least one “goon” in the group

How about adding Snider as the guy carving the monument?
Lightning strikes once, Hextall strikes twice!
I know a lot of people only want players but one owner for the entire life of a franchise is almost unheard of in the modern history of sports. And despite what Matt P noted Ed Snider is most certainly as recognizable as any of the faces on any all-time list.
Just Call Me "M"!
Agreed, he is undeniably at the very heart of our franchise, and we wouldn’t exist without him. Which is why I proposed my idea of him carving the monument, he’s the one who built it all. :-p
Lightning strikes once, Hextall strikes twice!
Exactly. The guy literally created the Flyers. I’d put him in over Hextall, most likely because two goalies for this franchise doesn’t exactly make sense.

I guess since I grew up with Hexy as my childhood hero, I am somewhat biased towards including him on there. He was a great goaltender, but also played with such grit and intensity (whereas true goons just fight and aren’t so good at the hockey part), so I think he’s a great example of the prototypical Flyer. And because of that, he’s one of the most recognizable faces from our history to fans from around the league. People down here in Maryland don’t know who Ed Snider is, but they know Hextall.
But I can’t deny that Snider should be on there too. Which is, again, why I’m trying to sneak them both in… ;-)
Lightning strikes once, Hextall strikes twice!
haha, Trust me, Hextall would be #5 on my list. I completely understand why he’s on there and I’m not even upset that he is.
Matt did a fantastic job.

Snider pretty much single-handedly (*sp?) brought hockey to Philly, when everyone told him it would never take hold.
Cheers,

...The fans are standing up to them! The security guards are standing up to them! The peanut vendors are standing up to them! And by golly, if I could get down there, I'd be standing up to them!

Donald Fehr as new interim labor chief
Hi gang, I am just dropping in for a minute…this is first week of classes, so I will be persona non grata until much closer to season start….and I’m of course hanging out occasionally in TGP (why, after this week, I don’t know :-((((().
But I am actually surprised the Fehr appointment has not been a topic yet. I posted about a month ago that this could be a very dark, but possibly inevitable, choice. For those of you non-baseball followers, Don Fehr headed the Major League Baseball Players Association for years, which is not only the most powerful union in sports, it is the most powerful union in all of the United States. I am not joking or exaggerating. With Fehr as the head, we go from total incompetent leadership to Darth Vader in one fell swoop. (Of course, in this case, Bettman would be the Emperor, not Luke Skywalker, even if he is just as short). A Yahoo article pointed out that both Fehr and Bettman have had joneses for work stoppages in the past. Needless to say, another work stoppage would kill the NHL as we know it.
This is one we may need to have on the front burner of our mindsets. Even more than the inscrutable CBA itself.
Raul Ibanez: since Moyer is on the DL, he is fast becoming our favorite old guy.
Rooting against a certain LW for the Tampa Bay Lightning will be impossible.
Yeah, the road Fehr and Bettman will soon enough be driving down is pretty clear. Oh well. Not much we can do but enjoy the seasons that do take place.

Very good point. But I’m more inclined to follow Ben’s take.
It’s noteworthy, it’s important, it’s worth knowing and remembering. But I’m not going to worry about it for a bit.

OT
But I hate the Astros. Like, with the kind of intensity I normally reserve for the Pens. I just can’t grasp why we can beat these NTACs. (some of them have a modicum of talent, but honestly, aside from their semi-decent rotation, we should be kicking their butts)
Lex clavatoris designati rescindenda est.
Como se dice en ingles, “NTACs?” No-Talent Ass-Clowns?
I have the answer.
1. They always beat us. What we did to them in April won’t happen again anytime soon. As I said yesterday, Flyers : Islanders :: Astros : Phillies.
2. As if that weren’t bad enough, they have infinity billion ex-Phillies on the roster.
3. As for the Phillies, it’s late August, which seems to be slumpin’ time.
There you go.
