I called the box office to see when they go on sale. It’s the 10th but the guy made it sound like they’ll be sold out to most of the games. I guess everyone wants to go see the Flyers now that they’re defending Eastern Conference Champions.

If thats the case I’ll have to save some extra $$ and get more expensive ones. And I’m sure it is… which is good IMO. The more people into hockey the merrier!

There’s always Stubhub…and Devils/Flyers games in NJ. I’m sure you can get cheap tickets to those. Haha.

the games against the Eastren Canadian teams are always the cheapest on stub-hub. No idea why, but sometimes you can grab canadians or leafs tix for like $10.

The Hartnell Rumor?

I can’t believe I’m contributing to this speculative crap – but on the link to Puck Daddy, someone said Hartnell just got divorced. If this is true, I’d guess that was the “personal problem” he had which made it impossible for him to skate or score last year? Does this mean there was some validity to Carts taken down his wife?

WTF

by scottymac on Aug 30, 2010 11:42 AM EDT reply actions

Don’t listen to unsourced comments from Puck Daddy readers. There’s tons of rumors surrounding his problems last year, but nothing substantial has come out from a reputable source.

by Snevik on Aug 30, 2010 11:49 AM EDT up reply actions

I’m not sure about this Hartnell thing.

Also I never knew Harts had a NMC, I always thought it was a NTC (and capgeek agrees with me). I think that may be a mistake on the part of Puck Daddy or something, but I guess it’s a rumor to make some noise. I’m glad we didn’t get Souray at all.

The Puck Daddy comments are crap, they’re only good for a laugh.

Most of the time, I’d say Puck Daddy comments are only good for an eye-roll or SMH and a heavy sigh.

I keep hearing about Carter and other player’s wives. Where are these rumors coming from? I heard this about Upshall and Hartnell’s wives. And since I’ve never seen him with a black or swollen face I can’t see them being true.

Right and there were rumors about Lindros and Brind’Amour’s wife and rumor’s about Jayson Werth and Chase Utley’s wife.

I’m sure there have been more too.

I don’t know who starts them or why, but they’re out there.

by grucifer on Aug 30, 2010 12:35 PM EDT up reply actions

If you ever noticed, the beat writers go-to answer for a player underperforming is always the “he slept with his wife” story. Its kinda our thing.

We don’t like to talk about it here…but…let’s just say from what we understand both Briere and Hartnell had similar personal matters to deal with and leave it at that. The thing about Carter is not true. At all.

Lover Lever is overrated in. The atmosphere in the mezzanine is much better.

Lower Level is what he meant!

by grucifer on Aug 30, 2010 12:56 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s completely false. I sit in both areas. I have had season tickets with my mother, who is handicapped for about 10 years now. Our normal tickets are upstairs 224, last row right on the blue line, but when she makes the games, we get reassigned to a handicapped section, usually in 124. The row behind us is so much fun, I’ve never had more fun watching a game with anyone else. If you are ever watching a game on TV when the Flyers are playing Pitkanen’s team and you hear boo’s, that is literally just one guy in the crowd, in section 124, his name is Kevin, and he is hilarious. When she doesn’t come to the games, I sit in my normal seats in 224. It’s usually not the same people up there from game to game, and there isn’t much conversation going on between whistles. The sections itself just isn’t as lively as it is down in 124. Granted this is just 124 vs 224, specifically the rows I’m around, but saying the lower level is overrated is just wrong IMO.

Is this the right room for an argument?

Shame Kariya can’t play I like him but he was often speculated to sign with the Pens so that is a good thing, no Kariya from Crosby to pass to.

by chrislanci on Aug 30, 2010 1:22 PM EDT reply actions

Kariya wil always be one of my all time favs though. Even with the Pens, you never want to see a great player go out like this.

Yeah, we’ve seen too many beloved Flyers lose seasons from same. I don’t wish it on any player, even Crosby.

Exactly. Players’ health is something when I don’t care about the jersey they wear or whether I like them or not.

Anyone see the price for presale tickets? $135 for lower level!?!?!?!? What the hell? Did they raise prices without telling us?

They may have raised prices, but not nearly as much as the Capitals have. Take a look:
Capitals: http://www.channel1media.com/capitals/seatviews/
Flyers: http://flyers.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=35701

I love going to see the Flyers whenever they are in town, or will sometimes just go to a random Caps game with my coworkers (who are all Caps fans). But their pricing has gotten absolutely out of hand. The top two rows all the way around the building used to be called the “Eagles Nest” and were $10 each. Now, they have a convoluted pricing scheme that varies by opponent (you can guess where the Flyers fall), and the cheapest seats at the cheapest game are $40. Lower level seats were ~$90 and are now in the neighborhood of $150. They used to have family four-pack and student night deals ($10 upper level, $25 lower level!!!!!), but those are all gone now. This has changed over the course of only 2 years. It’s stupid. Thanks bandwagon fans!

On the bright side, now I can tell my wife (also a Caps fan) we have to drive to Philadelphia to watch the Flyers/Caps games this year because it’s cheaper

Oh, on an unrelated note, I told my wife, whose name is Shelley, that the Flyers acquired Jody Shelley and I should buy her a nice orange jersey. She replied “or they should trade him to the Caps, so I can get that jersey.” Be careful what you wish for, dear… :-p

On that link you just provided lower level seats are still listed at $96. I believe they raised them from $89 to $96 (and other ticket prices) after the 2008 Playoff run. That price hike isn’t a big deal & was announced in June or July I can’t remember. But there is absolutely NO REASON to increase the prices by 35% especially without an announcement. Maybe it was $130 becuase it’s the home opener. It would be a huge mistake if the Flyers flex pricing by opponent or promotional night

I don’t agree with it, but I feel it should be mentioned that designating games as “premium” games and charging a different pricing scale happens throughout the league already. Huge mistake or not, it’s somewhat status quo, as I know it’s already done by the Canadiens, Senators, Capitals, Blackhawks, and others.

by DragonGirl0583 on Aug 30, 2010 8:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m seeing $96 in their seating chart pricing guide.

Is this the right room for an argument?

by DLJr on Aug 30, 2010 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Some games are listed at $130, others at $96.

Ah, right you are, I was looking at the center of the lower level, which I think used to be $90ish. I think the ends of the lower level used to be $70ish, but that would have been 3-4 years ago so I could be wrong.

If select games (Division Games, Home Opener was among the ones I saw) prices are increased by 35%, here are the new prices:

Ice Level goes from $96 to $130
Mezz Rows 1-7/Center 6 Rows 8-11 go from $63 to $85
Mezz Rows 8-11 go from $53 to $72
Mezz Rows 12-15 go from $46 to $62
Mezz Ends Rows 12 -15 go from $26 to $35
