"While in Toronto, the Hammarby [Pelle's youth hockey club] boys go to a sporting goods store. With [his father] Sigge at his side, Pelle picks out a new catching glove. His dad also tells him to go ahead and buy the jersey he's been admiring since he walked in the store. Most of the other Hammarby boys buy Maple Leafs jerseys, but Pelle picks a Flyers' one instead. Several years later when Pelle is 15, he discovers the play of Bernie Parent -- the goaltender who becomes his idol and, later, his mentor and dear friend. In so doing, he fully adopts the Philadelphia Flyers as his favorite club in the NHL."

I wanted to pick this book up. Is it good?
I’ve read The Good The Bad and The Ugly but also I wanted to check out Orange Black & Blue. Can anyone else recommend any other good Flyers books? How’s JJ’s?

I’m going to be reviewing it on here sometime in the next few weeks. It’s very good.
Ben did a review of The Good, The Bad & The Ugly last summer.

as an avid reader, i’d totally recommend “The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly” along with “Orange, Black, and Blue, The Greatest Philadelphia Flyers Stories Never Told” <— this one was awesome.
Also, not Flyers related but “The Code”, “Then Wayne Said to Mario…” (actually has a good representation of Flyers in it), and Keith Jones’ book “Put Your Head Down and Skate” (it’s a shame, this book was a really fast and entertaining read but really poorly published, words were missing and misspelled but i loved the honest behind the scenes look.
I have Jonesy’s book… haven’t gotten around to it, though.

It’s a quick read, but it’s entertaining. It reads more like a conversation, telling specific stories.

Orange, Black and Blue is the only one I haven’t read, just because I haven’t found it as easy to get my hands on (my library actually has the other 3). I might finally get around to ordering since you recommended it.

Its not about the Flyers but..
It is an incredibly funny story about a goalie!
Ballad of the Whiskey Robber: A True Story of Bank Heists, Ice Hockey, Transylvanian Pelt Smuggling, Moonlighting Detectives, and Broken Hearts
I've had this on my Amazon list forever
May have to download it to the Reader now if I am able.
Lex clavatoris designati rescindenda est.
While we’re giving book recommendations, “Why is the Stanley Cup in Mario Lemieux’s Swimming Pool?” is funny too. It’s all stories of what past cup winners did during their day with the cup.
haha i’d like to read that! like when the dallas stars dropped it and dented it.. i loved how rod the bod took it on a hike in the woods. my fb pic was once rod holding the cup w/ his shirt off standing over a waterfall. it made me want to drink a case of labbatt blue.
I found it at the library the day I picked up the Pelle book. I refused to read it until after we were eliminated just in case it was a jinx, but once I finally read it I was glad I spotted it that day.

Wow that’s a great excerpt. I am going to see if I can get this book from my library (the New York Library has tons of books so hopefully they’ll have this one and the others that were being talked about).
I didn’t know that Pelle liked the Flyers for that long. I knew he idolized Bernie but that’s great.

Good bye #12, you will always bleed Orange and Black.
Well the New York Public Library hates the Philadelpha Flyers. There are a few things but none of the books we have talked about… boo.

Very good book and there are some pretty emotional parts surrounding the accident.

Probably read by many already, but I can heartily recommend Gene Hart’s “Score!” and Jim Jackson’s “Walking Together Forever” as well. Both excellent.
