Yes after he agrees to convert to a defenseman, Homer plans on signing him for 2.5M/year for 3 years with a full NMC…

seems logical, i am guessing Homer’s madness is not to upgrade goaltender, but instead to field 5 defensemen on the ice at a time, by the trade deadline I would not be surprised to see a 23 defenseman active roster LOL!

Last I heard, he was rumored between Boston, Philly, St. Louis, and the Islanders (and yeah, LA offered him a deal, but my understanding is he prefers the East Coast). I doubt he would sign here because, at most, we could offer him $900K and I can’t imagine Pittsburgh wouldn’t have been willing to match that. That said, a rumor is a rumor is a rumor. I don’t think it will happen, but until he signs somewhere… who knows?

I meant here as in Philly. He had three offers in the NHL and has since turned down one. Philly is fine with their tandem, and Boosh is safe for now. If Backlund does well in camp, though… waiving Boosh would “solve” the goalie logjam problem.

Yeah, basically. With Boosh, you’re at least guaranteed NHL experience and you know what you’re getting. With the way things stand right now, I’d rather let the tandem do their thing. I feel like the team will support him better this year, now that they’ve got their bearing.

You’ve also got to imagine that the team doesn’t want to be unprepared for injuries the way they were last year. If Boosh or Leights goes down and Backlund steps in, proves he can do the job, then maybe they consider moving Boosh. Until then, though, he’s a good insurance policy.

Having Guerin should replace Giroux’s scoring. Move him for Cal Clutterbuck. With Guerin contract, we’d probably be over the cap, so see if the Stars would take Hartnell for Ott.

I see Powe and Shelley rotating in and out depending on the opponent. Which I’d be fairly comfortable with, Shelley’s price tag aside. Do we know if Zherdev can play on the left? I know he’s a right handed shot but for the past few months Panotch, etc. assumed he’d start on the left.

Matt Walker is good because Bartulis has potential, and if he wont be in our to 6 defenders, i’d rather him get time with the shitty phantoms then sit in a box doing jack for a whole year. And if we dont trade anybody, we will drop Shelley or Powe(shivers) o the Phantoms, and the other will be our HS.

The sad part is, this situation would be absolutely perfect without Shelley.

You move Guerin into the top-9, bring the Lappy-Betts-Carcillo line back, and have Powe as a great 13th forward/injury replacement. The only potential issue would be replacing Powe’s PK work.

Instead, we have Shelley, who is going to make the roster no matter what happens. He could prevent us from making Guerin an offer, or force us to dump either Carcillo or Powe, two far more useful players.

by cocon1120 on Sep 1, 2010 12:18 PM EDT up reply actions

what makes Shelly a guarantee. The way it looks right now, Shelley is our healthy scratch when Betts returns(because Powe > Shelley, and it will be clear during the season.). So, lets say Powe playes very well like usual, who does Shelly take over in the lineup? Betts, Lappy, Carcillo? I would hope not. Now, this opens up a new delima, where does guerin fit? Is he above Powe, Betts, or Lappy. Those our are top 3 PK’s, and 2/3 are just as much as leadership guys as Guerin is anyway. I a perfect world, we trade carcillo, and put Guerin on the line with ritchie(like what he was with Crosby), have Lapp, Betts, Powe as 4th, and Shelley as HS.

The laws of alchemy dont justify murder........but the laws of murder justify being a cowboys fan :P

by JpH89 on Sep 1, 2010 12:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Remember, just b/c you view it that way, doesn’t mean the organization views it that way. I believe cocon was saying Shelley is a guarantee b/c it appears the organization wants him in the lineup, at least on the roster, based on the contract they gave him (I’m referring to the years more than the $‘s). Not saying someone is right or wrong, just saying you are viewing it from your logic and I think cocon is coming at it from how he is interpreting the organization’s thought process.

Is this the right room for an argument?

by DLJr on Sep 1, 2010 1:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Exactly, thanks DLJr.

If I had my way, Shelley wouldn’t be on this team, but the organization obviously values him. At this point, my guess is that when everyone is healthy, Shelley and Powe will alternate as scratches depending on the team we are playing against. Throwing Guerin into the mix makes it so someone has to go, and it won’t be Shelley.

by cocon1120 on Sep 1, 2010 2:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe the would Flyers look to move Powe or even Carcillo?

I can’t imagine Guerin signs here if he’s not gonna break the top-9. And with the current roster makeup, he would seem to be, as you imply, a healthy scratch most nights.

by cocon1120 on Sep 1, 2010 11:42 AM EDT up reply actions

LA was rumored to be interested in Carcillo and has a number of injuries with defenseman (though Mitchell’s signing helps). Carcillo and Walker to LA for….? I can’t think of what they’d give up that would be worth it. That would free up $2.375 mill cap space, though. You’d still have to find more left wingers.

by tinmansstory on Sep 1, 2010 11:56 AM EDT up reply actions

Carcillo & Walker to LA in return for Scott Parse (young LW with totals (24pts,13,22PIMs (less stupid penalties)in 59 games) about the same (maybe a little better) as Carbomb (22pts,5,207PIMs in 76 games) and Vyacheslav Voinov (20 year old D-man in AHL (signed for 3 years, cap hit of 700-800k if called into NHL duty))…

Takes $1.8M off current cap, and we still save $1M if Voinov plays on big club…

Cheers,

Maybe LA would make that deal for Parse and a 6th round, but thats it. Plus Parse is a right wing, which we would now have too many of.

by tinmansstory on Sep 1, 2010 12:59 PM EDT up reply actions

they list Parse on Left Wing on depth chart so i am guessing here…they are both 25 and make about the same money (Parse is signed for 1 additional year, and may have more offensive upside and less agitator status)…as for Voinov we are trading for a prospect that may, or may not pan out into an NHL D-Man, and in return we are giving LA a D-Man that will make their top 6…seems reasonable.

I’d like to give him the benefit of the doubt, especially since the guy next o him’s blurred expression seems to read, “crap Jeff Carter is gonna F my girlfriend.” But still, this is another example of Carter being lazy…if he just took a few more steps, he’d be out of frame, getting ready to sleep with the blonde in the heels, rather than in frame, associated with those two fine personalities.

Miller Lite remains my drunk beer of choice, and clearly that was his mission that night, and it appears mission accomplished. I expect people not to judge me on my beer quality while my goal is intoxication, and I will not judge anyone else who is drinking for the same goal.

Well, if your aim is to get drunk, you are doing it on the cheap—however, because alcohol content is so low with MLite, you have to drink more.

This is why I drink wine, folks. $10 can get you totally hammered.

But you can’t play wine pong, which I believe is a good thing. Drinking games should go out the door after the age of 25.

Its not necessarily that its fifteen proof so much as its caffeine plus alcohol. Those two work against each other. That’s what does the trick.

I have drank the 4 LOCO…each can is the equivilent of 4 beers and has the caffeine of 12 cups of coffee…Drank 4 cans between me and the GF Sunday night…paid heavily on Monday morning but its only like $3.25 a can. I dont care for the aftertaste drinking them straight up, I mix them 50/50 with juice and they still wreck ya (Fruit Punch, Orange, Lemonade, Razzberry Lemonade, Blue Razzberry, Grape, and Watermelon are the current flavors…the lemonades and razzberries are the best IMHO)

Too much wine or hard alcohol leads to a hellish morning after for me, so I still stick to the ML’s. Plus it’s far harder to spill a bottle of cheap beer at a crowded bar while drunk than a mixed drink or glass of wine.

At current salary take about 85 years to make $5M, and I will spend the extra 5 bucks for a case of good/decent beer…though MLite/RRock is always an option at end of month when i get the funzalow virus…Just NO BUD PRODUCTS! Sorry to Bud fans, but I brewed my own beer for like 4 years, and you learn a bit about beer…BUD is brewed with Rice Malt (cheapest malt available) which is why so many people get headaches and suffer rotten hangovers from bud/bud light/busch (Michelob is not too bad though)…

Off subject...

I just realized that on the Lightning’s site it appears that Ryan Malone gave up his number 12 for Gagne. Feeling more official to me now, kinda stings….and stinks.

Niemi to Sharks

Like I said this morning, Niemi finally signed… to the Sharks. Not surprising, as Nitty is hardly a guaranteed starter and Niemi’s been rumored there for weeks. Kinda funny when you think the Sharks are why the Hawks were forced to sign Hjallmarson to $4 million, eh?

No, Nitty, there is no shame in your game.

I think that may have been the Sharks plan the whole time. Mess with the Hawks to ensure the lose at least one more important player. Then when said player becomes available snatch him up.
