Former Flyer Coach Apprehends Shoplifter

Greg Drinnan reports on his blog:

A teenaged shoplifter in Kelowna has learned not to mess with Hitch. Don Plant of the Kelowna Daily Courier reports that well-known hockey coach Ken Hitchcock, who hangs out in Kelowna during the summer these days, "was in a parked car outside clothing shop Cruzwear Unlimited on Bernard Avenue on Wednesday morning. A 14-year-old boy left the store with three pairs of shorts as employee Sherrie Lessare grabbed his pack sack and held on.
When she called for help, Hitchcock and a man riding a motorcycle seized the thief and pinned him against the store window. Lessare phoned the downtown security patrol while the two men detained the youth.
"They were both just wonderful people," she said later. "Both guys, no questions asked, just came and helped."
The youth ended up being banned from the store and also was informed that he would be charged with trespassing were he to return.
And if you know Hitchcock, you know he wasn’t done.
The former Kamloops Blazers head coach, Plant reports, "came back to the store half an hour later to see if Lessare was OK."
Hitchcock declined The Daily Courier’s request for an interview.
By the way, Plant also reported that "Lesarre . . . described (Hitchcock) as ‘distinguished,’ tanned, wearing walking shorts and expensive white runners."

Way to go Hitch!

A 14-year-old shoplifter? Oh dear…

Sadly, there are a good number of 14-year-old murderers in America.

Yeah, that’s horrible. Not so long ago I heard about two 6-year-olds beating down a 4-year-old girl. Sh!t happens everywhere.

Hitch was always tough on the young ones.

As a punishment they should make that 14 year old play under Hitchcock’s defensive system.

Judging by all the players that have revolted against it, it must be one of the worst things in the world.

My old boss played pee-wee hockey under Hitchcock when he was around 13 or 14.

He was the 3rd of 3 goalies and got cut from the team. I think Hitch told him something like “Kid, we just don’t have room for ya.”

I probably have my child hockey age designation wrong. Forgive me, Those Of You Who Know Child Hockey Age Designations.

I love Child Hockey Age Destinations.

Because, really, how are you supposed to know that Pee-Wee is smaller than Midget?

And what the crap is a “Bantam”?

He’s a North Jersey kid now living in Philly long-term. I think is pretty straight-forward.

Yeah, he knows where his bread is buttered. Plus, the Mets suck.

I’ve never really had a problem with people having an AL team and an NL team, anyway, as long as they’re honest about it. Lots of us have a team we root for in the West, right? Or the AL or AFC, etc.

by DragonGirl0583 on Sep 2, 2010 9:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed, many do. As for me, I am a total homer, no “other league” favorites, but I have a strict philosophy, if/when my team is eliminated, I always then root for the lowest ranked remaining team, i will always root for the…

UNDERDOG!

That’s my thinking too, root for my team first, after that, underdogs all the way.

Lightning strikes once, Hextall strikes twice!

Yeah, I have a minor rooting interest in the Indians (really good family friend was living there when I was I guess 12 or 13 and I went to a couple of Tribe games — not the best attendance, not the best team, but a nice park nonetheless — and I guess I kind of made a connection). Otherwise, I’m partial to a few teams in the West (Predators, Kings) and don’t care enough about the NBA or NFL.

My mother lived in OH for about 10 years, and I can agree more, they do have a SWEET park.
