Hey people, I would like some help. I am like all of you, a huge Flyers fan. As such, I like to embrace a big part of the team identity - toughness. We love our players to be skilled and score goals, but also gritty and willing to play a physical game. Sometimes that means throwing big checks, while sometimes that means being willing to drop the gloves.
Now I am of the opinion, like some others have mentioned in other posts recently, that if you are a player on another team I generally don't like you, but if that player is traded to or signed by the Flyers; I will support them. This is especially true of Danny Briere. I did not care for him and the Buffalo Sabers when he was on their team. I HATED that first playoff series after the lockout! He has always done some borderline cheap/dirty things, usually with his stick, to defend himself or retaliate. These behaviors have continued since he has become a member of this team.
At the time of his free agent signing, many fans, myself included, did not like his lack of fitting into the Flyers team identity. However, after a decent first season and an amazing run in the playoffs, especially a great first round series with Vinny Prospal at his side, Briere gained some acceptance. His injury plagued second season did not help matters, BUT after a mediocre year last season his playoff performance in 2010 has for the most part cemented his status as one of the best and appreciated players currently on the team.
Which brings me to my point. Could everyone suggest or make a list of current NHL player(s) on other teams that you can think of that Danny Briere could or should fight to solidify his status as a "true FLYER"?
