Matt Walker

I think I just realized why Matt Walker hasn't been waived. I was browsing around capgeek.com and came to the conclusion that because SOD only has a one year contract, that they organization plans the replace him with Walker. Anyone else on this train of thought?

That’s definitiely a possibility but I also think they like the insurance in case anyone goes down w/ an injury. Walker also would be subject to re-entry waivers if we did ever need him and that would cause a Randy Jones type problem. Personally, I’d like to see if they can get a late draft pick for him so we can get his contract off the books and get to see more of the Offensive Dynamo.

I think it’s a combination. They like him more than Bartulis, so they want him to be their #7 defensemen. They also like his three year contract, so if they have to move someone for cap space or simply decline to re-sign O`Donnell, they have him as a #6.

I disagree with all of this, of course, but I think the organization really likes Walker and wants him around as a 6/7 for the remainder of his contract.

I think the organization really trusts their coaching staff, which they should of course. It seems like they can really get the most of the players. I had my own negative opinion of Walker when they picked him up, and along with the whole mess of his situation this season, but I’ll hold off judgment until next season, which I believe is their plan.

In the offseason do Walker or Leighton for that matter have to clear re-entry waivers if we plan on using either of them next season like SwinnDave suggests?

Hey, SwimminDave—any way you can do a post about Sean Avery never retiring from the NHL?
