Danny Syvret recalled. Which Defensive Prospect in the system do you think will be a starter in the NHL?
Danny Syvret was recalled by the FLYERS as an Emergency Extra Defensemen. He was aquired for Ryan Potulny in June 2008. Syvret scored the lone and only goal in the 2010 Winter Classic. Known as a Smooth Skater, Syvret has been back and forth between the AHL and the NHL. In some circles people think that Syvret is good enough to be an everyday NHL D Man.
So it comes to question,
Which D prospect on the Phantoms do you feel has a strong shot at being an Everyday NHL Defenseman?
Kevin Marshall who was very highly touted with the Lewiston MAINEiacs.
Marc Andre Bourdon was drafted 3rd in 2008. Some have stated that his skating ability is not up to par with being a 3rd round pick.
Erik Gustafsson who was signed as a free agent from Northern Michigan University. For an Undrafted Defenseman he scored some pretty high marks on the Peter Laviolette Radar Meter this Preseason in September 2010.
Joonas Lehtivuori Drafted in 2006 in the 4th Round has struggled with the American Ice Hockey scene over the European scene and is also small in size.
So you tell me, Who do you think will be able to be an everyday NHL Defenseman and which one will be a FLYER and which one will be on another NHL Team?
LETS GO FLYERS !

Hard to say
My guess is Kevin Marshall, but it’s anyone’s guess. Marshall just seems to be a rugged stay at home d-man who puts up solid numbers. Letivuori also seems promising, but he is very under-sized, then again so is Timonen. Bourdon got a lot of hype coming out of the Quebec majors league but has seemed to drop off the past couple of seasons. But as I said, I believe Marshall is the most N.H.L. ready.
I agree a little bit
While I know that Not every single one of the 6 or 7 D men in the Phantoms can make the FLYERS or even the NHL. I think that 3 of them have a shot in Bourdon, Marshall and Gustafsson. I think that Syvret is what he his, a “Tweener”. Syvret is a guy you call up on Emergency Basis. A Journeyman D man between AHL and NHL at best.
I would like to see more actions from these 3 with the FLYERS and not just called up to ride the pine.

I’d say Gustafsson, though Todd has a good point too.

I have not heard much on Simon Bertilsson
What is the Report on him

And as I look him up, I see he is not a D, but a LW. Wow, I thought he was a D the whole time.

Others not Mentioned
Because I have not heard much on them. Maybe they are Career AHL’ers and their is nothing wrong with that.
But the others are:
JP Testwuide
Cullen Eddy
Logan Stephenson
Dan Jancevski
Does anyone have any Info on these guys?

They’re all career AHLers.
Jancevski is the Captain, and a solid player, but is unlikely to play in the NHL.
Testwuide is a bruiser who is often a healthy scratch for the Phantoms.
Eddy is frequently in the ECHL, with a callup to the AHL when needed. Not sure much else, but that should tell you a lot.
Stephenson is a character guy, probably in the mold of O`Donnell: Steady, stay-at-home, will fight when needed, highly respected, etc. But Stephenson has also been asked to play forward this year, which he’s apparently done admirably.

I heard that Testwuide is a Bruiser and his younger Brother the forward is a scorer. Kinda reminds me of when the Phantoms had both of the Vandemeer Brothers dont ya think?
FLYERROB ! YOU STAY AWESOME FLYERS FANS ! www.naawayland.com Robert Wilson
Well, his younger brother is a power forward, not so much a “scorer”. 2 goals in 36 games is not looking good.

Info
Jancevski is a career-AHLer. I think he’s around thirty and has bounced around from team to team playing in the minors. Stephenson has been with the Phantoms for a while now and has been a scratch for most of the season, so I wouldn’t count on him coming up. Eddy and Testwuide are new this year, so I don’t know much about them.
None. If they were any good they would be here by now or involved in trade talk. The new NHL is so watered down that the days of raising talent in the minors is over.
Just Call Me "M"!
Really? I know we had this argument before re: goalies, but on a team with Pronger, Timonen, Coburn, Carle, and Meszaros, not to mention O`Donnell, Walker, and Bartulis, where could any of these guys prove their worth?
Not to mention Gustafsson is a rookie.

I agree – not much room on FLYERS NHL roster to allow some of these guys to come up. They have to pray someone gets temporarily injured or the flu to get a shot at cracking the lineup.
