the millenials’ article is awesome. like, truly awesome. personally, i tend to recognize my occasional self-entitlement attitude and gape in awe at it.
It's a new season, and I'm damned excited! ecnewman on flyersfaithful.com
pure gold. I never was a hockey player, I was a competitive swimmer, and I can relate it to that. 2 very key points:
1. If you want something and you’re not achieving it, work harder or work different.
2. Shut the fuck up – no one who doesn’t personally know you could give a shit about your feelings.
Love the millenial article. Should be standard reading for some people.

Fair warning... I started replying and this turned into a tirade... you might just want to skip it.
Honestly I was “Meh” at best about the Millenial article.
The points were far too scattered and there was too much “Suck it up and work harder” finger pointing. (Which is indictive of both sides of the argument)
Personally I got more out of reading about “Sam” in the NY Mag article referenced in the Flyers article.
And for me I got this out of it: F’ all three of them: Sam, the writer, and the Millenial response. The guy made life choices and now regrets them. Thats a perception problem, not a generational problem. He switched from sciences to Arts, he got out of college and took an apprenticeship, he quit before he really started and became a teacher, being laid off he quit again and thinks salvation of happiness will come in a tech track…
I know the son of 2 doctors who’s on six different mood-stabalizers who went to college to smoke dope and make ceramics. Now he’s got a graduate degree and supports himself making clay pots and is content.
I know this generations, and last generations wood workers, wait staff, cooks, artists, whatever… If you look back at your life and see nothing but regret thats a problem. Not who paid for your school or how many figures your salary makes you. And I don’t think that has anything to do with how hard someone works or if you were brought up to think everyone gets a trophy…
My initial response was, "I hate you so much right now" but I changed it.

I agree largely with your post here.
First off, I have to say that all this reductive, simplistic reasoning on all sides accomplishes nothing. The “entitlement” problem is not specific to the millenials and occurs in all generations relative to what’s available to them at the time. Of course, our grandparents didn’t feel entitled to education or high-paying jobs because they weren’t largely available to them at the time.
The personal responsibility argument is valid, but only insofar as you should be expected to do the most with what you are given or have access to—i.e. you can’t blame someone for not becoming a millionaire when circumstances prevent it. That is, you can work your ass off your entire life, but hard work and smart choices (that are available to you) don’t always equal million dollar success. Many people forget that your circumstances—i.e. who you know, who your parents are, influential people and lucky accidents—are largely what contribute to very successful people. Hard work doesn’t do it alone.
Whether or not this protest is being handled well in all cases or being hijacked by others to a certain degree—and oh, BTW, the point of a protest is to be inconvenient—the impetus behind it can’t simply be reduced to “lazy people who want to be handed things”. It’s more complex that that. Disagree with it all you want, but corporate greed is in large part what has gotten this country into its current economic mess. There’s no shame in examining the roots of that issue.
What kind of plane is it? Oh, it's a big pretty white plane with red stripes, curtains in the windows and wheels and it looks like a big ol' Tylenol.
“The personal responsibility argument is valid, but only insofar as you should be expected to do the most with what you are given or have access to—i.e. you can’t blame someone for not becoming a millionaire when circumstances prevent it. Yep, yep, yep – and opportunities are drying up in this country…go to college, prepare for a career, but there aren’t enough jobs to go around? Not only that, but what about those who are not college material? We used to have factory jobs in the US – not any more. The value of service jobs? Way down, in order to put more money in the pockets of the 1%.

Isn’t the tiger mask the one Bryz said he had trouble seeing the puck? That thing is destined for the dumpster.

Not a bad idea a brand new mask could really turn this thing around.

Not exactly what I was saying but it could explain why he had no idea where the pick was last night. Not an excuse but thought I read something about that mask giving him vision probs.

Actually srv, it was a little inside joke you got caught in the middle of. But why would he even try to play with a mask he is not comfortable with, he is a pro and the budget is unlimited to correct these issues outside of the rink.

No problem. Why is a great question and maybe the mask is not an issue anymore but there seemed to be a lack of vision and trouble covering pucks last night.
Also I’m not putting all blame on him but some of those goals were stoppable for a goalie of his supposed caliber. Just grabbing at straws here to pass the next nine years…..

Perhaps try orange? If white blends in … and black obstructs … trying something ELSE might be in order!!!

I’ve always felt that along with others a GM needs to consider the attractiveness of the Free Agents he signs and their deals. An ugly deal essentially means that this player will be with your organization for a considerable amount of the future. If you cut down on the ugly deals, the more maneuvers your organization can make.

What’s this big announcement the NHL have today? As its being announced in Pittsburgh do we reckon it might be about Sidney Crosby and when he returns no one came skate within five feet of him.

Thanks for the compliments (and shout out). I had no idea it was going to be “Power Play Week” in the Caps bogosphere.
It really is stark how much AO collapses the box when he moves down low.

PP was 17.5% last year. Not exactly blowing the doors off. There’s plenty to talk about the Caps. New stud third line, will AO (and Backstrom) bounce back, best D corps they’ve had since the ’80s, new goalie playing lights out.
Just happened to be PP week.
Please, call me F&B.

In other news
Saw this in Panotch’s article on Bryzy working on communication with Reese.
The irony, of course, is that Sergei Bobrovsky didn’t speak a lick of English last season as a rookie and didn’t seem to have this issue.
The irony, of course, is that this was became an issue for Bob stirred up by Panotch back in February. As I recall it only took a week to resolve.
If Brzy doesn't do right by Bob I'll kick his $51 million ass across the WFC.
And yes, I'm a female redhead.
Yeah, I was infuriated by this last night. I might write an article on this and other shifting narratives, if I can find the time today to get worked up about it again.

I wasn’t able to watch the 1st period last night, so evidently I missed the only good portions of the show. Still, from what I saw I’m wondering when standing around and watching the opposing team skate and score became part of the Flyers’ defensive strategy?
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Back in my day we called it a showdown because only 1 guy wins ( or the goalies, but they don’t count haha) So everyone gets to shoot, if you score you go again if you don’t then you’re out. Its not rare for there to be 1 or only a few that score twice.
