BSH Radio 46: Another trip to the Adirondack Mountains
As if the several stories on the Adirondack Phantoms or the Matt Walker jokes this week weren't a dead giveaway, we made a trip up to Glens Falls, N.Y. over this past weekend to catch a few games.
After Saturday night's game against the Toronto Marlies, a 2-1 Phantoms win in the shootout, myself, Geoff and esteemed BSH reader Don prepared for a night out in Saratoga with beers and a radio show. Much to our surprise, we actually did talk hockey for just about all of the show, despite Geoff's many attempts to sabotage the endeavor with ridiculous impersonation attempts.
We talked about several players who impressed us over the weekend (Jason Akeson and Garrett Roe lead the list), the play of tall Tommy Sestito, Matt Walker's surprising foot speed, the crowd in Glens Falls and what hockey means to the small town of 14,000, the confusion of a five-round AHL shootout as opposed to a three-round NHL shootout and much more.
Get the show after the jump.

The drinking started before the recording started, didn’t it?
My initial response was, "I hate you so much right now" but I changed it.

It was the only way they could convince me to actually use my eyes to watch a game.

The classic Adirondack pregame meal is at the Burger King by the front entrance. No way a burger there would have taken a half hour :)
You wouldn’t have wanted to sit next to me if I ate at Burger King.
Also the beer at Davidson’s was worth it; the Anniversary Ale was quite good.
Make me a little more jealous, damnit.

So are there any interviews w/ players or staff this trip? Any impressions or opinions regarding others not on NHL contracts like Hamel or Bombach? Any clues as to what’s going on w/ Brandon Manning? Did any of you buy/ wear one of these but were too embarrassed to admit it?
Hamel might be the best player on that team IMO. He is absolutely excellent to have there on an AHL contract. I’ve walked away impressed by him on both trips.
I didn’t buy anything, but I caught a T-shirt for what it’s worth. Ryan caught one thrown by Mr. Hamel.
I bought one of these and Don made fun of me for some reason.

Last I heard, Manning was still in Philly rehabbing. Bombach didn’t play – I’ve never heard his name before now anyway – but Roe (AHL contract) was my most impressive player.
No interviews due to someone forgetting to charge their phone, but I have video of Paterson and Harper’s post game interviews. Not sure if they’re at all relevant though.

Andy Bohmbach was called up at some point from the ECHL where he showed some offensive skills. Don’t know if he is still in ADK, I just assumed he was. As far as Manning goes, I think it was in McManus’ column I read that he inquired about him and no one on the Phantoms would comment, very hush-hush. ?
A lot of empty seats in that picture. I could swear I read that these two games had the highest attendance to date this year.
Yeah, people show up late there a lot. No idea what Manning’s injury was, though I remember the team put him as a camp invite on every roster, despite later confirming to me he was signed to a contract.
Very confusing, that Manning situation.

Poor form, Deets. Just terrible. Awesome voice crack too. When are you going to be done with puberty.

That’s my special gift, my individual talent that I bring to this team for victory.
Also, if none of you bought me that Dax coloring book then you all suck.
