Didn’t get a chance to say this last night but, I HATE SHOOTOUTS! Saying that I think we did well to get a point out of last nights performance.
Definitely worried about the D, can you imagine if Kimmo went down now, doesn’t bare thinking about! Not a fan of that Ducks trade and Walker……… god damn it!
Toronto and Edmonton top of their respective conferences……..what a crazy hockey world we live in!

I am ONE of a kind!
Blah blah blah he stopped in the shootout.
So does every single person who does a spin-o-rama move in the shootout (I hate the shootout). If they disallowed Danny’s goal, they would have to disallow every spin-o-rama move. Did Danny’s move violate the constantly moving forward rule of penalty shot attempts? Maybe, but its not even close to the first time a player has slowed or hit the breaks after a speedy start toward the goal.
I go Bananas for Wayne Simmonds.
Spin-o-rama’s are specifically allowed by the rules.

Yes, they are. But bad exception to a rule is bad. Stopping because you are spinning around is still stopping and I almost feel like it was made an exception because it looks cool. It still violates the spirit of the “constant forward motion rule”

I think that whoever instituted this thing does it to make things more interesting then puts rules in place to govern how you have to take a shot. Throw the rules out, best man wins. If Ovie can do a triple axle and score skating backwards flipping the puck over his head, so be it. If the goalie charges out and tackles the player so be it. That might make people like the shootout (not I, not ever).

Simmonds.....
What is the consensus on how Simmonds is playing or lack there of on the ice? Do we think it’s due to the line he is playing on? He sure has been pretty invisible lately. And yet they chose to use him in the shoot-out?
My teams are the Flyers, Phillies and the Steelers. Deal with it.
Niko hovinen
So do we have any real assessment of how he is playing this year? Is he just on a really good team or is he playing out of his mind? His GAA is under 2 and almost .940 save %. and it’s over the course of 20 games in which he is 14-2-2 .
What a frustrating game last night. I thought Max’s penalty shot was great. I read an article after the game that said Bob was saying he should’ve stopped all of the goals except maybe the second one (I think it was on CSN Philly’s site.) Heck I don’t think he needs to be so hard on himself. The guys owe him an apology for hanging him out to dry too many times. I hate to say the Devils really carried the play last night but they certainly played a much more complete game. I’m glad we got away with a point (but I hate to give 2 points at home to a divisional rival.) Ugh!
Thanks a lot Select-A-Seat! Now I'm in 122!

Actually, the worst part by far is that since the pdf is just a bunch of scanned pages, it is not a searchable document. Hundreds of pages. The info I want is in there somewhere. Would it keel these people to have a table of contents with descriptive section headings?

Interest in a Ducks “depth defenseman”? Screw that, go after Justin Schultz. We need defensemen that can play 2 years from now and beyond.
I see Nic Riopel’s Road Warriors beat Carter Hutton’s Walleyes 4-3 last night.
http://echl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=8859
I like the idea of picking up a guy like Schultz and off-loading one of Coburn or Carle to make cap space. I actually quite like both guys but with Timonen’s contract handicapping us for the next 2 years i really can’t see our D being better than average.

if I had to choose a worse case scenario between Gagne and Walker
Gagne being out long term with concussion symptoms (paying him to be injured)
or
Paying 850k for Walker to play for another team
or
Paying Walker 1.7 million dollars to play for our team
I’d still rather pay for occasional brilliance from Gagne accompanied by potential concussion issues. And I’m not even a Gagne fan

Frank Seravalli says:
According to a team source, speaking to the Daily News last night on a condition of anonymity, Flyers coach Peter Laviolette was “especially critical” of van Riemsdyk’s performance on Wednesday night – despite the fact that he scored a highlight-reel goal against the Sabres – and called him out during a team meeting.
Still, it was not an injury that would have normally kept him out of last night’s game.
“He could have played and expected to play,” the team source said

If true, that’s completely ridiculous. Especially if Shelley is EVER dressed.
Lavy’s shelf life has apparently lessened since Carolina.
If this is true, now the “was Richards traded because of Lavi?” speculation can begin.

I had a feeling last night that JVR was a scratch. Sad that I was actually hoping it was a minor injury. When is Lavvy going to learn how to motivate people. When is he going to stop with his assinine doghouse, and coach the strengths of the players he has, rather than trying to turn them all into Eric Cole?
I’m so sick of his BS. He could be a great coach, but this type of crap derails success. Yeah let me bench JVR because he didn’t do things exactly the way I want on every shift, but at the same time I’ll continue to dress Jody Shelley even after he turns the puck over on the breakout due to the fact that he can’t skate or stickhandle worth a damn, and which ultimately costs us a game we lost 9-8, yet came back from a 4 goal deficit 2x? Where was the coaching in that game when all the wheels came off like a clown car? Yeah…. we had all that momentum and a glorious chance to turn a debacle into a win with people fired up and believing in their ability to come back from horrible bounces and bad luck, and then he puts out the 4th line and Shelley blows it, and all the air comes out of the tires. Where was that frigging benching?
Nightmare on D
Clearly, the D’s the problem. But anyone who thinks that it is all Pronger-absence related is in for a rude awakening.
(1) The game recap thread folks noted that Coburn is playing poorly. I hadn’t noticed, because….
(2) Mez and Carle have been making seriously brain-dead plays causing multiple goals for the wrong team. Some of you hadn’t noticed, because every once in a while, one of them makes an awesome offensive play. In my view, given Lavi’s style, D is first (unless there really is some credence to the post a couple of days ago about “gotta get mine in future salary negotiations, I’m going up ice!”). This is a problem.
(3) Timonen hasn’t been mentioned much, and that’s a problem. Opposed to the other guys, he has been pretty solid on D, at least as far as I can tell, yet on offense, particularly on the power play, he’s looked lost at points. I’m nervous because, traditionally, the O goes first among excellent defenders (many of you don’t remember Chelios’ earlier years, or Park for that matter). If this is really part of the aging process, and not injury (with the Flyers, who would really know?!?!?) then we have 2 more years of the slippery slope decline potentially
(4) Lilja has met all of our expectations prior to the season, especially mine. Heh. This is a disaster in the making.
(5) Walker is Walker
(6) This means that for consistency, until the Captain comes back, we have Gus to rely on. (Uh-oh).
I just wish Kyle Turris was a defenseman. Because I’m thinking we need that kind of trade.
