not to be that guy...
Eklund (ugh) reported that Coburn signed a multi-year extension, anybody have more info on this? I remember some outlets (TSN?) reported that he signed an extension in the summer, but that was quickly debunked.
Given only Eklund seems to have written on it, I’ll dismiss it as bullshit until otherwise informed.
Wait, now it just says “Coburn WILL sign an extension.” I chalk that up to the need to make vague predictions to increase the likelihood they will come true. E.g. – The Flyers will win the Stanley Cup. The point here is I didn’t say when, so when they finally do win 20-50 years from now, my prediction will be correct.
Wait?!The Flyers actually play hockey tonight? Sweet.

Great article about Patrick Burke and his efforts in the GLBT community. I know that Sean Avery filmed that video last year (or during the summer?) but I wonder if the NHL would partner with MLB and film a whole “It gets better” series? Or do some variation of that series with their teams?

Thee seem to be some petitions out there to try to get hockey teams to make them; but the Sharks already publicly declined a request to make one (boo). if enough people kept requesting teams to do it one of them might be willing to do it and get the NHL started, but it doesn’t seem like they’re jumping at the chance to do a series of them yet. But it seems to me that every MLB team hasn’t done one yet either, so I guess it’s up to teams for now.

Yeah… I hope more and more teams start requesting to make a video. It would be a great offseason project since it’s slower, they can film and edit it for the start of the season. It would also be a great marketing tool and can be played for the opening day festivities… just my thoughts tho

It might have been. I'm not sure.

I think I’d be in favor of doing a 7-10 minute 4v4 OT period. If it’s deadlocked after that, call it a tie. I don’t mind ties, personally, but adding a couple minutes to the OT period probably would lower the amount of games that don’t see a winner.
Jagr shoots, Jagr scores!!!!!!
.
Yeah, I don’t know why the league suddenly started hating on ties. I see nothing wrong with them. I also don’t see a need for the charity point. After all…

You play to win the game!

While I would rather see ties rather than the stupid charity points, especially because the Flyers seem to struggle with the SO, I’m not going to lie, when I see a game going into the SO in gamecenter I always make sure to click over to catch it. They are so incredibly stupid to decide a game on but they are entertaining. I think the league is always looking for that “offensive” selling point and the SO helped create that entertainment value.

I personally, am not that entertained by it. In the context of the All-Star skills competition, yes, but not at the end of a game. But that’s just me. I know there are a lot of people (my wife included) who do like when it comes down to that.

I guess the major appeal to me is that you get to see who “wins” a game in the 5 or less minutes it takes for the shootout (strictly from a viewer entertainment standpoint, I don’t actually think we should be declaring winners based off a dunk content). I never want to see the flyers go to the SO because I could watch multiple OT games when they are involved. But I will be damned if I am going to watch a FLA-CAR game that goes into OT.

I agree, for the most part. I think shootouts are cool (I feel kind of dirty just saying that), just not when they involve the Flyers.

Coburn Extension
4 yr/ $18 mil according to Panotch.

I’m still hoping they keep both.
I was expecting them each to get somewhere in the mid-to-high 4’s, maybe over 5 if they hit UFA. So I’m at least content with this signing.

Meh, lemme edit that. “At least content” is too weak. I’m happy with it. Not jump-out-of-my-chair thrilled, but it’s good news.

Content is a good word. When I read it at first I thought it was 4 at $16, I was pretty excited. But alas, the pains of UFA contracts.

The signing isn’t bad, but our blue line is starting to get mighty expensive.
by youtastelikeaburger on Nov 9, 2011 11:55 AM EST up reply actions
It’s actually good, I just got really excited when I misread the number, so I backed off to content. I’d love the team to figure out a way to unload Pronger in the next couple of off seasons, I know I’ll get killed for that, but he is getting older, and that contract is permanently on the books until 2017 unless the Flyers trade him; and I see that window closing fast.

It ain’t on Capgeek, so it doesn’t exist.
Even though …

But I take issue with this –
His cap hit is $4.5 million – a very nice bump from his current two-year contract extension that was paying him $1.3 million.
IN what world was he being paid $1.3m? That was his LAST contract, Panotch you idiot.

The words “you idiot” are redundant.

Gus injury?
The Tweets page is full of stuff on Gustavson, injured? Wha? When? How long? etc Guess I should visit Melter’s page, eh? Too bad there’s much work to be done, damn you work!
/likes being employed though
I feel like we’ve been talking about penalties drawn vs taken for a while around here, usually when debating Carcillo, but it’s good to see someone else talking about and tracking it as an actual stat. And nice to see Scooter doing well there. :-)

UGH!
I always hate the first game superstar player return from injury game. I have Lindros flashbacks. Flyers get get beat tonight. Only thing not cementing my prediction is that there was not a 4 day layoff. 4 days and up layoff guarantees a flyers loss.
