What normally would have been just another mid season Rangers match up that I would have looked forward to watching basically because I hate the Rangers. But now with this whole HBO/winter classic thing I am a little pumped for the game tonight with a little extra zest. Curious if they will dress Avery tonight to add some more friction to the game. over under on the fights I have 3.

STOP IT !!! STOP IT !!! Stop making excuses for this guy, he’s soft, he doesn’t see the ice well, doesn’t move his feet when he doesn’t have the puck and the Flyers COMPLETELY jumped the gun AGAIN by rewarding this guy that ridiculous contract off a phony 10 -12 game playoff run where for that brief moment ACTUALLY LOOKED LIKE A #2 OVERALL DRAFT PICK but let’s be honest about this, other than that little spurt," what has this guy done to warrant that contract?" Patrick Kane #1 overall…this guy #2 overall, talk about light years of difference between picks !! throw in that the second round pick that same year was that STIFF we had to watch the last couple of weeks Kevin Marshall and this was what we came up with having 2 picks in the first 40 players drafted that year…BUST with a capital B !!!
Simon Gagne AND Mike Richards may move between towns, wear new jerseys and call different arenas home but, at the end of the day, they will both always be Philadelphia Flyers.

More
JVR is a bust.
He plays with no heart, toughness, or grit. He doesn’t use size, speed, or position himself well enough to be considered a top 6 player.
It drives me crazy when people say “JVR put the entore team on his back” in the playoffs. I remember a crushing 4-0 sweep to the Bruins. JVR had 7 goals in 11 games last playoffs, nice numbers but imagine if he could actually finish…should have had 16 goals.

While not trying to throw a jinx at JVR, I will say alarm bells went off when he was out for a little while with a “slight abdominal tear.” How big a step is it from there to “sports hernia?” I think he’s hiding the injury until after the Winter Classic, and then he’ll have surgery. And if I’m correct in that, I’ll have to say I don’t care for that thought process. It hurts the team.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

I think it’s pretty small. And definitely within the margin of error where Homer might be lying about how serious it.

Don’t like this. Its definitely a bad idea for him to play though injury. He’s not a fancy player who can coast through a game. Needs to push it. But he can’t throw himself around the ice if he’s not confident in his body. How can he use his size and speed if the thought of “Shit, this might make it worse…” is in his head each time he approaches the limit? It’s only natural he’s not playing hard.

Its interesting people are slamming JvR so bad. While I will agree that is not playing up to his ability, or his contract for those that choose to look at it that way, but you can’t hide the fact that he still producing at about his average pace.
I was hoping James would ride his late season/playoff success right into this year and get over the shitty starts he’s had in previous seasons, but he wasn’t able to do that.
So here we are with a guy we know has the talent and also is prone to bad starts, but he does have 18pts so far this year which I believe is on pace to beat his best point total. He’s not too far behind Voracek, Read and even Briere and most have been impressed with all of their play.
I think there’s some people that just need to calm down or there is a definite possibility of them having to eat those words if later in the year Jamers heats up at the right time(playoff time) and we don’t have to count on G, Jagr, and Briere.

JvR is NOT P. Kane
And he shouldn’t be expected to be, either. Agree he’s not 100% himself right now. Really hope he’s not going to have surgery and be out months. But really the expectations fans set for this guy are just not one he’s likely to meet.
I think he is what he is, and maybe he didn’t warrant the #2 Overall tag, but Bust is a bit strong.

Yeah, I mean, if everyone wants to compare him to Patrick Kane, they should also compare him to Kyle Turris, selected immediately after JVR.

I agree with all of this. We went through the same thing last year, everybody calling for him to be traded when he had a slow start at the beginning of the year. And you know what? He got over it and played fine. I had patience with him then and I have it now. He’ll hit his stride and everyone will be singing his praises before you know it.

What a dick! I actually quite like JVR and Marshall. Both guys are young and are still developing. I hate it when people rip on a guy that’s at the beginning of his career and still learning to play at this level. I also like Bourdon, he’s played above my expectations and looks like a mainstay for the future.

attorneys are pretty stringent about being honest.
Not always for the right reasons, but this tends to be true.
My biggest problem is that the attorney client privilege can get in the way of doing what is morally right. The overall principle is of a higher value than an single incident, but some of those incidents suck.

Just watched the Bernie video. I can’t believe I’m going to see him play in a week. Still blows my mind.

Hextall was my first favorite Flyer, why I played goalie, etc. Bernie was on the team before I was born, so to me this is a chance to see one of those incredible legendary figures of yore that you always heard stories of, but never thought you’d really see in person.

After getting shutout by the Rags last time and how big this heavily this game is going to be featured on 24/7, I so badly want a HUGE win from the O&B tonight.
With that said, I would certainly trade another loss tonight for a Winter Classic win on the 2nd!

So the fact that Cooter is day to day, skated and did his off ice conditioning is an early Xmas gift. I really thought he was going to be on the shelf for a while.
Also very glad to see that Schenn is almost ready to go. I feel bad that he has’t gotten a chance to get out there and start to get comfortable and find his spot with on team.

Good grief I miss the days of the Lappy-Betts-Carbomb 4th line.
There were games where they were our best line, hell Dan Bylsma wanted to keep Crosby away from them because they were so good defensively. Said as much in a mid period interview.

It looks like Briere will be out too so Holmstrom will be centering the 4th line. Matt Read is also expected to jump to center as well.
So is this a rough estimate of the line combos tonight?
Hartnell – Giroux – Jagr
JvR – Read – Voracek
Simmonds – Talbot – Sestito
Rinaldo – Holmstrom – Shelley

All 3 are easily replaceable by Harry.
Looking at this, I’m interested in what Lavi’s tactics are. We got shut out last time we played the Rags and I don’t understand how giving the Rangers numerous PPs benefits the team.

Does the 4th line really make the difference between winning and losing. I assume his tactics are fight fire with fire. I am also assuming Avery is in along side Prust and Rupp. Tortarella doesn’t want to get pushed around at home and in front of the HBO cameras a week away from the winter classic and neither does Lavy.

The only time the 4th line does make a difference is when they take penalties putting the other team on the PP.
If they can keep the penalties to a minimum while hopefully beating the crap out of the Rangers, I don’t mind this move. It’s all about discipline and staying out of the box. If I am the Rangers, I am going after that 4th line to get them to take penalties all game. I don’t trust Sestito and Rinaldo (Shelley to a lesser extent) to keep their cool and not take dumb penalties. That’s on top of having Hartnell and Simmonds in the lineup.

So, we agree Rinaldo will take penalties if in the lineup? Because that’s the concern, not whether he’s earning them.
Keeping alive the old Vaudeville joke, "I'd rather be dead than play Philadelphia."
And hopefully Avery will take his normal amount of dumb penalties.

It’s doubtful Avery plays tonight. I expect the same lineup as last night, none of the beats have given an indication it will be otherwise.
