What team would you want the FLYERS to play in Stanley Cup Final
Ok I know that the FLYERS just got Blanked from Tampa Bay on the road, and the timing of this may be unnerving after a bad loss but, the FLYERS are still odds favorite to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals from the Eastern Conference.
What team would you like to see matchup with the FLYERS in the Stanley Cup Finals ?
Would you want a Rematch from 2010 with FLYERS vs Blackhawks ? Does Patrick Kane scoring still tick you off and make you upset? Do you secretly wish that someone would punk slap him or check him hard into the boards?
Do you want a 1997 Rematch of FLYERS vs Detroit ? Has the fact that Ken Holland has been a GM Mastermind at building and winning championships unnerved you to the point that you want to knock of the Goliath Giant and get redemption for 1997 ?
Do you want to get a Dallas Matchup ? For all you EAGLES Football fans who like the FLYERS as your second sport and want to see the FLYERS beat up on Dallas to win a championship over your Nemesis city that you hate - Dallas - home of the Cowboys ? Or are you a FLYERS fan who had respect for the Ken Hitchcock / Joe Nieuwendyke era and want to see a Brad Richards and Brendan Morrow matchup against Mike Richards and Chris Pronger in a good Stanley Cup Finals run?
Would Anaheim be of interest to you? Maybe seeing Bobby Ryan in a Stanley Cup finals bring NJ hometown spirit to rise ? Or watching Chris Pronger pair up against some of his old mates like Teemu Selanne or Ryan Getzlaf get your competitive juices flowing ?
any of the other teams like Nashville, Phoenix or San Jose get you excited ? Or you don't care, you just want a Stanley Cup Win the city of Philadelphia for the first time since 1974- 1975? Some of you fans may have not been born prior to 1975 and dont recall what its like to have a Stanley Cup championship Experience in Philadelphia and want to feel that for the first time maybe?

This…..
Still haven’t gotten over that embarrassment, and the $100 lost at the Gold Coast in LV, and me thinking it was our year.
Islanders.
Maybe it should read "reformedpenguinsfan" since I have retired my Lemeiux jersey ... and purchased an Orange and Black Pronger jersey.

uhhh, Islanders are eligible. Has to be a team out of the West.

I understand you meant ‘INeligible’.
And while true, guessing even at the teams that will make the playoffs from the West is a crapshoot at best at this point, so …
I’m gonna vote for revenge against Chicago.

Please don’t bring this up until we win the ECF? I’ll gladly answer at that time.
and the CAPS, they must stop.

Actually NO
I will type the way I want. If I want to reference a teams name by using capital letters I will and if I want to write this topic I will. My gosh, who are you people to tell me what to write or how to write. I mean really ?
This is a topic I ask every year, – “Hey if the FLYERS get in the Stanley Cup Finals, who would you like to play?”
Its no different than asking, – “Hey if the Phillies get to the World Series, Who do you think they will play or who do you want to play?”
If you don’t like my typing style or my topics, then don’t respond. Its like your parents told you as a kid, if you do not have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
Its a fair topic, What team would you like to face in the Stanley Cup Finals ?

Lighten up Francis. Most people don’t like reading posts full of capital letters because it is ANNOYING to read POSTS that are SHOUTING at YOU.

Yah, personally I don’t care either way how you write or who you play. I learned a tough lesson this year in college football about who I wanted to play in the national championship game. Got a weaker opponent, got all butt hurt assuming my fav team would blow them out and then we wound up losing in an epic meltdown. (1-AA) football.
Gimme the cup, the banner and the Parade. Doesn’t matter if we beat the Mites on ice.

Wow its Feb 3rd but to humor you I say the Flin Flon Bombers….. Then again I am more concerned with who they are playing the next game against. Also when 5 points separate #4 and #12 in the West its a bit of a pointless exercise.
I cannot wear my Pelle Eklund jersey anymore because of hockeybuzz and its creator Eklund.....
I Know that the Stanley Cup Playoffs are a way way off, and this was probably misinterpreted, I guess it would be better if I would have said
“While it may be presumptuous to talk about the Finals, the Flyers are the best team in the East through 50 games. It is distinctly possible that they make it to the Finals. In such an event, which team from the West presents an optimal matchup?”
Now get it? Heck FLYERS may even be a first round loss but I doubt it.

I like it the other way.
I don’t know the sport well enough to understand the different styles of play/systems that we would match-up to best in the west. We just don’t play them that much. But having to hear Chelsea Dagger over and over a week after the SCF whlie visiting Chicago for a relative’s wedding….give me the head of Patrick Kane on a plate. Although then it’d be all "well they’re not the same team this year…blah, blah, blah, " True, the cap watered them down and though we lost Gagne, we are in many ways stronger. Still a Cup is a Cup is a Cup. The Hawks are still, bottom line, a very worthy opponent. However beating Detroit we get 1] revenge and 2] authentic props. no matter the quality of the the team – they have Yankee/Red Sox/Lakers/Steelers like status. Winning a WS is great, but beating the Yankees would be the extra feather in the cap type of thing. Not that the Ray’s weren’t worthy opponents, they were not a fluke like the 2007 Rockies, but there’s just that little extra something when you take down the Evil Empire. While on the subject of post seasons and TB, I can’t help but draw parallels between the Rays and the Lightning in so far as with the Rockies Icarus WS performance the year before in the back of my mind, I had to make a conscious effort not to dismiss the Rays 1] using their small market past failures as a measuring stick and 2] realize that just because teams regress I couldn’t assume the interval of it’s occurrence and the amount they would regress esp. with so much young and above average talent – above average talent regresses to the mean for above average players not the average player and for any player it requires several year of data before that players true skill level can be ascertained. Lesson here is the Lightning warrants a healthy dose of concern.
That last part should read like this. corrections are bold.

Don’t tell me you’re one of those “Winning a Championship isn’t as good unless you beat the best” people.
I’ll whip up on the Royals and not give two shits about it if it means a WS.

Man I’m with you last I checked the world series trophy doesn’t have a caption “well you didn’t beat the best team, so this is fraudulent” on it.

Semper Fi...
Right on. I don’t think Cardinals fans care about how they got their WS ring. I don’t think Carolina cares that they beat an 8 seed to get a Cup.
No, I’ll beat the 8, the 7, the 6, and then the 8 seeds to win a Cup and say “thank you”.

Actually - I see both of your perspectives
I am not going to apologize for JACK SQUAT – if the FLYERS beat an 8th seeded team to win the SCF. So I agree with you on that Point Geoff.
However, J. Reed does bring up a point that I can relate and understand with. It would make the win that much more sweeter if you beat the Detroit Red Wings who have Ken Holland as a GM and IMHO Ken Holland and Lou Lamoriello have to be the BEST GM’s in the NHL in the last 25 years of NHL history. So slaying the goliath giant does give max “Cred” to your “Rep” and Mad Props besides sweet revenge on 1997 Detroit sweeping as well.
as a Child – besides the FLYERS winning a SCF – it was my dream that the PHILLIES beat the NY Spankme’s in the WS – and in 2009 I thought I was finally going to live out my 2nd favorite dream, that dream however soon turned into a horrible nightmare.
Me ? If I can pick a team ? I want either Detroit, Anaheim or Vancouver. I think Bobby Lou is overhyped and a Diva. So beating the ’nucks would be sweet in that sense and the Ducks would be interesting to see Pronger up against his old city and mates. And Detroit, well, you already know my reasoning.
LETS GO FLYERS !
