None of this tonight.
Via the reports from the morning skate at the Wells Fargo Center this morning, Chris Pronger will be out of the lineup for Game 1. We probably expected this, and the Flyers said that he's still listed as "day-to-day." We'll hope for Game 2 on Saturday. In the meantime, Danny Syvret will be in the lineup again tonight (and he's playing on the power play, too).
In other more surprising news, Nikolay Zherdev returns to the sidelines tonight. He'll sit out in favor of Dan Carcillo, as Peter Laviolette opts for more GRIT in his lineup against the smallish Sabres.
We often poke fun at the whole "the Flyers love grit" thing, and while I think Zherdev should be in the lineup with the way he's played lately, I don't hate the addition of Carcillo to the lineup. It just sucks it comes at Zherdev's expense, because he's certainly earned a spot on this team lately. For all his faults, it's hard not to feel bad for the guy right now.
One edge I feel the Flyers have in this series is the ability to wear down the Sabres, who, as already noted, can play kind of a soft game. Carcillo certainly brings that punch (ha ha pun). Fortunately for us, the battle between the Philly penalty kill and the Sabres power play is tilted strongly in our favor, so should anybody step a little over that physical line (ahem, Carbomb), the Flyers should be able to handle it. Still, let's try to stay away from that.
Andreas Nodl is also in the lineup, and it looks like he'll be with Jeff Carter and Claude Giroux, basically just taking Zherdev's spot. The other two lines stay the same, and Carcillo fills in on the fourth line with Darroll Powe and Blair Betts.
