Flyers Games Blacked Out

Hey BSH faithful I have a question. I read everyday but I do not post as much.  For some reason the Flyers playoff games have been blacked out on CSN every game this week. The only one I've seen at home is the last game on Versus. I checked with my cable company again today and they said it would be blacked out again. If the games are sold out how can they black it out? Thanks!

It has to do with area, not with the game selling out.

The blackout rules that apply for the NFL don’t for the NHL.

I see your name has PSU in it, if you are in State College, and have Comcast cable the games are always blacked out. Apparently the NHL has deemed State College to be part of Pittsburgh territory, even though it is right in the middle of the state. I know people who have something called Windstream Cable in State College & they got games all year, and only have blackouts during the playoffs, for whatever reason. I’m sure it’s the NHL’s decision.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes I am in State College. I also have Windstream but that’s blacked out too. I thinks it’s ridiculous to declare this Pens country. Luckily there’s a bar with NHL center ice. Why would the NHL allow a playoff game to be blacked out while they showed all the regular season games.

UGH! Im with you on this. I spent all season laughing at my friends who have Comcast because I have Windstream and could watch the games and now they black them out for us too. Which bar downtown is the one with center ice?

The Shandygaff has all the games.

i was at psu for 1999-2003. you just have to come to grips with the illogical cable dealings in the area, as well as it being “pittsburgh territory”. in line with thtat thinking, you just have to come to grips with pens fans, who strangely dissappeared during my tenure after 5 OT.

i used to hit up the sports cafe for the games; even that was difficult to deal with because the dickish bartender wouldn’t even turn on the sound for the game unless you got the manager on him. good catch on the shadygaff

It’s really stupid. I emailed the NHL in October complaining and asking for an explanation of why Flyer’s games are blacked out, and why they decided State College is Pittsburgh territory. They emailed me back 5 months later telling me to buy Center Ice. Really helpful.

I had to get the NHL package to see all the games. It was actually worth the large fee.

i got center ice when i moved to DC. worth every penny, because they throw in all mlb games for free. for $170 i got 222 games of of hot philly action, and that didn’t even factor in the playoffs.
