Ryan Miller is a moron.

"The guy who was complaining the most about how we were getting away with murder has delivered two of the dirtiest hits in the series," Miller said. "A blatant elbow to the face, that is something that the league said they were going to try and take away, and driving Tim Connolly head first into the boards. It wasn't just a hit it was a push. It was blatant."

These are the wise words of one Ryan Miller when asked about Mike Richards. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I found myself perplexed after reading this. To be honest, I am still quite confused. Bottom line is that droopy-eyed Miller completely contradicted himself by making this statement.

Richards complained that the Banana Slugs were getting away with murder after he and Briere were each mugged numerous times by asshole defenseman Tyler Myers (is it me or does he strongly resemble Kyle Singler from Duke?)
Richards was given a 5 minute major for his "blatant elbow to the face" of Patrick Kaleta, who had it coming after taken run after run at different Flyers. Richie was also given a 2 minute minor for the "dirty" (lol) hit on Connolly. Look, if this happened to a Flyer I would probably have reacted differently, but, to me, this hit didn't seem illegal. Even the boneheaded Versus guys said that Richards probably thought Connolly was turning with the puck, as opposed to dropping it back to the point. Regardless, Richards pushed Connolly and Connolly fell awkwardly into the boards. Richards didn't hit the guy's head or go knee on knee. Come on Ryan, this is playoff hockey, maybe your team wouldn't be worrying about this if you learned how to protect a lead. Ryan, suck it up and let your play (or lack there of) do the talking.
The league office reviewed both of these plays. Even our good friend Colin Campbell realized that RIchards had no malintent when making these plays. Obviously Richards wasn't suspended and deservedly so.

Ryan Miller truly pisses me off. If I wasn't away at college I would be at Game 7 tomorrow hounding him and cheering for our Flyers. Let's take Game 7 and advance. Then when Miller cries like a bitch we don't need to listen.

What does all of that mean? Well, go to espn.com. Click hockey. Go to playoff stats. Sort by +/-. Click to page 6/6 and go to the bottom 20 players. On that list you find Vanek, Gaustad, and Tyler Myers (Also Matt Carle). Vanek is 3rd worst in +/- in all of the playoffs with a -6. Gaustad is -5 and Myers is -4. Timo, Steeg, n G are +7,5,4 respectively.

The stat-heads here will insist that +/- isn’t a real statistical measure, just happenstance. They prefer the Corsi numbers … which are even worse for Vanek and company.

Maybe it should read "reformedpenguinsfan" since I have retired my Lemeiux jersey ... and purchased an Orange and Black Pronger jersey.

The worst is Miller him self. I have seen him or his defense give Flyers players several hits to the head if get near his grease.

Clean up the dirty play

We should bring up 3 of our most “colorful” players from the Phantoms. Let each take out a predetermined Buffalo player(slash to the throat….spear in the eye…stomp on the side of the knee when in a scrum… atomic wedgie…). Our player would most likely get tossed, but they would also, by virtue of incapacitation, take a Buffalo player with them. Myers would be my first target……..
