Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Congratulations

It sucks to have to do this two years in a row now. First round exits are for the birds.

Just wanted to come over quickly and say congratulations on your hard fought win against my beloved Sabres. You guys certainly played hard and will be a tough out going forward. I wish you guys the best of luck in your next series and beyond. Besides, if you win the cup it will make my Sabres look that much better.

As for the series, I could make a lot of excuses (and I think there are some pretty good ones to be made) but at the end of the day despite everything else when we had the chance to put you guys away we didn't. You took that opportunity and ran with it - and now you're through to the next round. Congratulations. No one will ever accuse this Philadelphia team of quitting.

The last thing I want to add is that I do my best (after cooling off from heartbreaking losses) to judge opposing fan bases not by the number of idiots they have posting but rather by the number of reasoned, intelligent, well spoken posters they have. I must say, you and your blog stack up very favorably in that regard. It's been a real pleasure having good debate with some of you, and I look forward to it again if we happen to meet next year. Here's hoping.

As I said, good luck. It's been fun.

Rec’d. Thanks.

Oh, I don't know. I think the GM should sign that free agent velociraptor to fortify the bench. He's a playoff veteran who still shows a lot of hustle.

You’re always welcome…though I fear I’ve pissed off Olesky to the point where I probably shouldn’t come back to DBTB if the two teams meet again int he play offs in the future.

I very much doubt that. DO is opinionated but not to the point of hating someone for disagreeing with him.

I mean, if he wanted to keep you off our blog he very easily could with the click of a mouse.

Yea no worries. You didn’t troll, and were respectful. You are welcomed back anytime.

Salute!

Classy post, TEMSON, thank you very much!

Despite the gamesmanship throughout this series, I found a lot of respect for the Sabres as a team in this match-up. I was especially impressed with old man Niedermayer’s game, and the overall play and heart of that little spark-plug Nathan Gerbe. You guys should be a major factor in the conference in coming years with that young core and the new owner (not that the Sabres aren’t usually in the mix, they are).

Anyway, thanks again for the classy post, and salute to your fans and your Sabres. I feel like getting through such a tough and passionate team has really brought the Flyers game back to a high level, and I hope they continue to play to their potential as they did last night.

Salute!

I think you might be right about that. Playing the Sabres might have been a pretty good thing for the Flyers in the long run. We’ll see I guess.

Between yourself and Ubi, you guys showed yourselves to classy contributors to the conversation, and that’s all anyone could ask for commentors – especially from ‘the enemy’. Congrats on a well-fought series.

Maybe it should read "reformedpenguinsfan" since I have retired my Lemeiux jersey ... and purchased an Orange and Black Pronger jersey.

This was the blogging equivalent of the post series handshake. Very classy, awesome series. You guys will be a threat for years to come. Buff is my early pick for the north east. Ennis is a stud.

Especially with their new owner. If you thought it was tough this series, just wait for their off season moves.

Temson, Thank you. We appreciated you and other Buffalo fans coming over and chatting with us. I hope you guys stick around throughout the playoffs, even if you’re not cheering for the Flyers going forward.

Thanks. Here’s hoping we face no more Ryan Millers in future round(s)!

That was a scary series

The Sabres fought hard, amidst some adversity, and certainly put a tremendous scare into us in a series in which in every category the Flyers were on paper the far superior team, with of course the one exception being that you guys have one of the best goalies in the league. I would certainly be proud of your team if I was a Sabres fan, and what’s more, with your new owner, the future looks good for the franchise.

Go fuck yourself Temson!

I kid, I kid. A little Philly sarcasm. Actually I think you can be nothing but excited to be a Sabres fan moving forward into the future. Young talent, stable ownership, things are looking up.

Thanks Temson

Going forward, with Pegula in charge, I’m more worried about the Sabers than ever. Great series. Please don’t take this as “sour winning,” but as impressed as I was with your team (much better than I thought they would be initially) I honestly believe that you guys are a defenseman or two and a top 2 center away from being a serious contender. And I mean serious.

There are some reports that Brad Richards doesn’t want to go to Toronto, but he wants to be by his family. If Pegula somehow pulls off that type of signing this team would be incredibly skilled at forward…combine another top 2 center with a puck mover at the blue line (preferably a veteran to mentor Myers on the finer points of the offensive side of the game at the same time) and your powerplay would go from very good to terrifying. Two Units with skill at every position. Best of luck to you and I hope pegula’s plan works out for you.

You just bumped up the Sabres fan base a notch in my book for your good sport-ed-ness (word?). I work at the United Center in Chicago, so I’m at all the Blackhawks games, and when the Sabres played here, there were the most away jerseys of any team(well maybe top 3 – with Flyers and Canucks fans-3 way tie). I was surprised at how many Sabres fans came out, but I heard of how they come out a lot in away games. I also liked watching/listening to that legendary TV play by play man you got there. Can’t remember his name right now, but I heard that he was gonna retire after this season, is that true? I liked listening to him when Buffalo would play someone other than the Flyers too.

Rick Jeanneret – and we’re hoping he’s got a few more seasons in him, though he travels with the team a lot less these days.
