Playoff beards for CHOP
Greetings everyone,
As the playoffs get underway, it's time for everyone's favorite playoff tradition- growing beards. Nothing says team support quite like having a huge, sweaty beard on your face in early June as the team makes a run at Lord Stanley.
Earlier this year, Matt Carle made me aware of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and generously donated $10,000 to its worthy cause. While most met this with due applause, there were some who questioned his motives and said that the money should have been donated regardless of how many followers he had. While he would have done it anyway, doing it in a public fashion allowed for greater exposure to this cause.
So here's what I want to do. For as long as the Flyers are around in the playoffs, the beard will stay on. Since I'm normally clean-shaven, people will ask about it and I will tell them it's for CHOP. They in turn might want to donate, grow beards, and on and on it goes.
So, if everyone (who is able) can pitch in $5 for each playoff victory (let's put a minimum of $25 on it), think of all the good that could come of Carle's thoughtfulness. He did not deserve any criticism for what he did, and now is our chance to show him that the fans of the Flyers have his back.

It’s good idea. Either way CHOP will have to put up with my playoff beard… I work there.

You don’t happen to work in the cardiac unit, do you? I have a friend who is a nurse there.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
I can honestly say from first hand experience (even international. A well traveled klutz, I am) that CHOP is one of the best hospitals I’ve been to. They are incredible there, everyone from Medical-Minions to janitors to the actual doctors. I am amazed by them, the amount of kids they see in a day is astonishing. Everything from sprained wrists to leukemia. Alas, I am a girl so no playoff beard for me. When I was there last week I did wear my Carcillo shersey for the Pens game and Flyers hoodie when they let me leave though.
Soon to be Sestitos Stache
