Matt Read - The Man
Matt Read: 8 points in 7 professional games. Playing in all scenarios with our top scorers. I can't say it enough -- this guy is the real deal.

Eh… He’s 25 years old and playing in his 44th game of the year against 22 year olds playing their 78th game of the year…
I’m impressed, I’m not ready to say “real deal” yet.

I’d agree. But I am happy with his production thus far, very happy.
Geoff has Boosh, Mike's got Powe, Nodl is all mine!
Is this the right room for an argument?
Maybe I’m out of line but I don’t know fellas, this guy’s vision is incredible. Not to steal Tim’s words, but the guy’s passes are so perfect that the goals these guys score off them are ‘layups’. I know he’s older and fresher but he’s made the jump to the pro game so well and been so blatantly impressive.
Yeah, like I said: I’m impressed. But he has two huge advantages that I’m not willing to ignore. Yet.

Oooh…I pretty much called him already.

I’m giving it to Ryan. A fanpost and fanshot on Read trumps you calling him.

I’m tempering my expectations. One of my biggest concerns is what role will be available to Read on the big club. He is getting 1st line minutes and PP time in ADK he won’t get that on the Flyers. So, how will he play, on lets say, a 3rd line? Is he responsible enough defensively to play on a 3rd line? There are a lot of questions outside of talent, and we have only seen a couple hand full of games. I’m just trying to see what the roster will look like next year in my head, and where he would potentially fit on it.
Like I said, I’m impressed, but there are tons of things to think about, not just his production versus age and “freshness” at the AHL level.
I just like to keep my expectations under control because I’ve been let down before…either by team fit, player failure, or both.

The way I see it is: I remember when the rookies arrived last year, and none of them (Holmstrom, Gustafsson, etc) looked as comfortable or for lack of a better term, good out there. There is a lot to be seen from Read, but for a rookie (albeit older) to come into the league and play as well as he does, I think that speaks to what kind of a player he is and what kind of a player he can be, holding all the other variables aside.
I’m hoping for the best with Read, and with Harry Z too.
I don’t disagree with anything you said…it’s just the variables that keep me from getting my hopes too high. But he was impressive in his 1st two games we were up there for, and has only seemed to improve since then…so I am excited for camp next year.

Another goal and assist tonight. Michael Ryan had a hat trick. 3 hat tricks in the last 4 games. In case you guys in Philly wanted some good news.

I saw Read in the USHL
Hey guys, just joined this site and I thought I would give you guys my take on Read. Had the privilege of seeing him play for the Des Moines Bucs of the Untied States Hockey League. The guys has a great slapshot, good passer and can flat out score. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t have an immediate impact next season. The Bucs also have had guys like Kyle Okposo, Peter Sejna, Eric Cole and Scott Clemenson come through as well. Good hockey program.

Can you offer any explanation as to why he was in the lower leagues for so long?
Mourning Gagne forever.
Read-o
He played in the “lower leagues” for so long because he wanted to finish his degree and was a great team player and captain for the Beavers. Rather than being in it for himself, Read stayed with the team to lead them in their first season in the premier conference in college hockey, the WCHA.
Matt Read is the kind of player that can do it all. He is a strong defensive player and kills penalties like a monster. He is comfortable all over the ice, playing the point on power plays and is very capable covering as a defenseman. He is a shot blocker, has amazing vision, and can feed the puck like a madman. He is humble and an overall great guy.
Even if he is 24, he’s a good pick up for the Flyers. He’s a team guy who can make it happen all over the ice. He’s not the biggest, but he’s durable. I think he’ll play very well in Philly. I hope your doubts are allayed when he plays next season!
The USHL
is a junior hockey league for player under the age of 21. Most player in this league play here before going to college.
Mike Florio, Mark Buerle, Michael Young, Jemele Hill- you have all tried to bring down the Eagles player and fans by way of your awful aritcles and ignorant tweets. Your all in the Axis of Evil.
