Boston looked even better last night then they did against the Flyers. They are deeper then the lightning and that series is over in 5. Nothing is going right or should I say lucky for the Bolts right now. And if what appears to be Vancouver firing on all cylinders and twins getting their heads out of their asses that series might not go 5. So the finals are as I see it Canucks vs Bruins. It will go 7 so it is a toss up.

Yep. Wouldn’t be at all surprised if this thing ends in 5 games. Bruins-Canucks SCF doesn’t get me excited, though. I really don’t want to root for either of them.
Sarauj, Latvija!
I would root for either, but excited about neither.

Which ex-Flyer (aside from Simon Gagne) do we want to get a ring?
We all want Gagne, obviously. But after him…
1. Recchi?
2. Seidenberg’s Uncertainty Principle?
3. Niitymaki?
4. Andrew Alberts?
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
we do all want Gagne?

To win a Stanley Cup?
I mean, I put him up there with someone like Rod Brind’Amour as “most deserving of a Stanley Cup.”
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
Interesting
I don’t really look at things in terms of ex-Flyers who deserve to win a Cup. I’d say that Gagne deserving to win is a popular sentiment, but not all. Just nitpciking of course

I don’t want Tampa to win regardless of Gagne. I don’t like to see the model of a team suck get the top pick who happens to be the best goal scorer in the league then out of no where win a cup in there 1st trip back to the playoffs after being a horrendous team 4 or 5 seasons in a row.
Van, San Jose and Boston have been building towards the championship and have fanbases that have had tough losses, bad luck and bitter disappoint to fuel their celebration. I am pulling for those teams this season. If Tampa stays competitive the next couple of years I wouldn’t complain.
Also Gagne is young enough where he will have plenty of more chances to win a cup. When he is past 35 I will be really pulling for him.
agreed, I wish we could get him back for a 2 mil cap hit.

I have nothing against the Bruins, sorry. They have two ex-Flyers now and I rooted for them as a kid… especially in 1989-90, when they had both Poulin and Propp.
I don’t blame them or hate them for mopping the floor with the Flyers. The Flyers had nothing left in the tank.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
Recchi? Hell no. Not with the Bruins. He used to be favorite all-time Flyer but he’s really overstaying his welcome for me.

He also already has two Cups. Much as he’s my favorite among them (apologies to Gags), he isn’t most deserving.

Yea, thanks to ESPN I just absolutely cannot root for the city of Boston to win anything. I never hated Boston until ESPN Boston was created. Now i can’t stand to hear about them.
Defending Carter until 2021...
When Atlanta relocates I would like to Nashville move to the Southeast. I think they would benefit the most by competing against Carolina and the Florida teams. Detroit has its niche and Columbus is fine where they are.

Minnesota has a pretty good history of coming up with local-themed names for their teams.
Lakers, North Stars, Vikings, Twins…pretty good, really.
Most of the Florida teams work – Panthers, Lightning, Heat, Buccaneers, Dolphins, Devil Rays, Marlins…really, the Jaguars are the only really weird one.

I do get a chuckle out of how it is a centerpiece of the logo for 2 teams and for the other 2 it is just out of place and stashed on the side/bottom.

All that was said was that those posters were awesome. That entire ad campaign has been good; I enjoyed the Philly/cholesterol bit. It is objectively lame that the retaliation amounted to asking them to be taken down.
Their campaign has certainly been better than anything the Flyers tried to do this year. Some people just lack a sense of humor. And in the case of a select group in Tampa, painfully so.

Ok so after reading the PD update it seems like this girl is backing off from what she did. I’m guessing she was rather drunk at the time. Either way, chalk one up to Vancouver just being crazy.

Marketing departments are “yes” people. They copy ideas and treat life like a pep rally.
The worst thing I have had to do when I worked in the sports drink industry was sit in on marketing meetings when the VP was unable to. They literally met to discuss when future meeting were to be. I don’t like. An organization shouldn’t be trashing talking. It is poor taste and poor sportsmanship it is pretty low blow. Leave that to the fans, let them come up with signs. This is a slippery slope to seeing really poor taste comments.

I want to say something about the Bolts reaction, but I can’t really put it into words… but the Bruins haven’t crossed any lines, and the Bolts fans should take it with a grain of salt and laugh at it. It’s the playoffs, the Bruins have a history with this marketing campaign and realize that it’s a joke. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I just find it dumb that a morning talk show host would make such a big deal out of this.

And?
It’s not like they are mocking the terrorist attack. For saying some of the stuff you do on here, I’m surprised you are going on about this. I agree they are funny and I am perfectly fine with them coming from fans, bloggers and even newspaper writers like in CHI. I am even fine with much worse as I said it is really hard to offend me. I just don’t like this type of sportsmanship to come from an organization. Trash talking is poor sportsmanship on any level and it should be left between fans not two organizations trashing either others cities or fanbases.
Even in the non sports world you don’t see competing products make fun at their competitor. Like a CBS commercial saying NBC SUCKS or stuff like that.
P.S. Also I don’t have a friend working in Boston PR department the joke just worked better framed that way.

I was just offering my opinion. I am not offended think they are funny but find it to be a little low for professional multi-dollar sports organization to do so.
I got blasted on this forum the other day for taking a cheap shot at Pens fans. And this is an internet forum taking cheap shots and flaming people is what the internet is for.
Nothing like Don’t Be White Trash Drink Coke
And Boston hasn’t done that either. This is nothing worse than having truck drivers get in to fights, Mac mocking PC in the ads with the stereotype character they created for PC, etc. It’s nothing new, and it’s nothing offensive.
And I don’t know what you said yesterday, but you’ve said plenty of things in poor taste before, and the stuff I recall are far worse than what Boston has done…but of course it’s okay because it’s on the internet or it’s simile.

No it is okay because I am not a corporation nor do I represent one. Nor am I part of group that is making fun of customers that supply revenue to to said group. Once again the comments are NOT offensive it is the fact that are coming from a NHL Organization and directed at fans of another NHL organization is where I have the problem. I feel NHL Organization should be a little classier and not go inflammatory there are plenty of sources around to take cheap shots and being funny, DJ, sports talk radio, individual fans, newspaper columnists etc etc.
But it’s okay for Mac to stereo type PC and PC users in their ads and mock them? Just because they are a little more clever and subtle about it, it makes it different? It happens, it’s the same idea. To me, as long as it’s no offensive, it doesn’t lack class. If you have a problem with it fine, but it’s silly to think it doesn’t happen else where with major companies. Bruins are trying to gain shares and money in their own market, which increases their revenue. Funny ads will do that, and I don’t believe they qualify for revenue sharing…I’m not sure you are fully aware of how revenue sharing in the NHL works. I haven’t looked at it in a while, but they might not qualify for revenue sharing. Not that I think that will change your mind.

I also find them very fitting of the sports culture up there.
Boston’s fan base has a “sports-smugness” about it. The attitude up there with all teams is “our teams are the greatest, your teams got nothin’.” They have an inferiority complex re: the New York teams, and they have some vitriol towards Philly fans in particular, but overall they’re pretty “comfortable” with their teams, so to speak. I don’t want to say they have a sense of entitlement – though Pats fans are starting to somewhat – but they’re definitely “comfortable” where they are.

“What gets me are the Flyers fans who constantly complain about undeserved label being given to them only because of a small sample of their fandom doing something stupid (tea in the river, anyone?). They complain that people around take an act of a minority (abusive behavior? vomiting on kids?) as an example and true image of the majority. Yet they do the exact same thing. Only because some blockheads felt offended by a Boston add and these very idiots decided to do something about it (calling to Boston, really?), it suddenly means that every person rocking black & blue is a whiny sensitive bitch. I personally found the Bruins adds funny and this hype over Lightning fans being touchy irks me much more than the initial campaign (which didn’t anger me at all, to begin with).”

Who were the death threats on, the bear or the marketing/PR department?

"They were homophobic, racist and went as far as death threats," Chmura said. "At the end of the day, we don’t want to put our staff through that. We want them to be comfortable. So we just decided to take (the billboard) down."
The calls were made to the Bruins “front office.” So I guess the death threats were non-department-specific.
Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?
From what the PD article said, it was the PR department.
THen again, I haven’t re-read it to know if I remember wrong.

The only thing I tire of is the Santa Claus incident, mainly because it happened before a majority of the people who reference it were born.
Course you could bring up the time Giants fans nearly killed a coach on the Chargers after he was hit by iceballs, but no one seems to remember that.
Will I ever get to where I'm going?
If I do, will I know when I am there?
I’ve always just believed that most fans use those arguments because they wish they were us. They wish other fans of their teams took sports as seriously as we do

So has there been any definite word on this Thrashers to Winnipeg move yet? No one’s reporting anything but Travis is on Twitter talking like it’s an absolute lock.
It’s basically an absolute lock. The Globe & Mail doesn’t report things lightly, and it looks like the only snag is that Bettman wants to grab more money from the Atlanta owners.
